Rocker Tom Morello was arrested in Los Angeles Thursday night during a protest march to raise awareness for immigrant hotel workers' rights.

The Audioslave guitarist, who performed under his Nightwatchman alias at a rally before the march, was charged with unlawful assembly for refusing to move from Century Boulevard, the main entry road to Los Angeles International Airport.

Four hundred other protesters were arrested at the 2000 strong march, which Morello and other organizers called, "The largest act of civil disobedience in the history of Los Angeles."

Morello and the other arrestees actually planned to be arrested and even gave the Los Angeles Police Department their driver's license numbers days before the event to speed up processing.

Speaking before the march, he told MTV, "In these political dark ages, it's important for us to stand up for one another.

"These hotel workers by the airport make 20 percent less wages than hotel workers around the rest of Los Angeles. We're here to express our solidarity with them, to help them unionize and to help them close the gap between their sub-poverty wages and the millions and millions of dollars the people who own these hotels make.

That article explains it.

lemoley 10-03-2006 11:13 AM

why did they want to be arrested

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 11:13 AM

They even gave their license numbers to the police to speed up processing? I guess that's Tom Morello for you.

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 11:15 AM

In other news... Coldplay is taking a 5 year break to concentrate on families. If I told you I will miss them, I would be lying.

Mr. Pickle 10-03-2006 11:18 AM

coldplay kicks my *** they're so good.

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 11:19 AM

I gotta admit, I like Yellow, The Scientist, and Rush of Blood to the Head, but I can't stand the rest of their stuff, especially the X&Y album.

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 11:25 AM

Well I'm out of school today, so I'm gonna get my lazy butt off the computer and go do something productive... like cooking lunch.

Spaceman Spiff 10-03-2006 11:29 AM

Coldplay is so boring. My friends love them, which makes it worse because I sometimes get forced to listen to that lame band.

It's not even that they're not talented, I'm sure they can play their instruments quite well, but they write such boring, unlistenable music that does absolutely nothing for me, evokes no emotion... except maybe rage. :p

As Zach De La Rocha says, anger is a gift, so maybe I should listen to Coldplay more often.

neal_672 10-03-2006 11:34 AM

'Sup casual.

Spaceman Spiff 10-03-2006 11:38 AM

Where have you been all this time?

neal_672 10-03-2006 11:44 AM

Hehe, here and there, moved to University about two weeks ago, so for the past few months i've been busy sorting related stuff out.

Hows my favourite mxer doing then?

Spaceman Spiff 10-03-2006 11:49 AM

I see. What are you taking in university?

As for me, I've been doing pretty well as of late. I'm taking an extra year (maybe just half year) at high school right now, partly because I have to (boost marks, pass a couple classes), but partly because I don't feel ready to go off to college or university quite yet.
Regardless, I'm enjoying this year at school so far, despite my main group of friends not being here anymore, as they've gone off to university. However, I've found a teacher that I really like, two of my three classes are with him, so that gets me through the days.

neal_672 10-03-2006 11:55 AM

I'm doing English Language and Linguistics.

Uni is a bit of a head**** i have to say, new friends, no parents, thankfully i see my girlfriend at least twice a week as i'm not too far away. The hardest part is getting to grips that "home" isn't home anymore, and never will be.

Whats things like in terms of bassing/bands?

Spaceman Spiff 10-03-2006 12:08 PM

Yeah, I can sort of understand all that. I've basically been dealing with the "no parents" thing for almost a year now. I mean, I live with my stepdad, but it's not like I really have any rules or bounderies, I pretty much take care of myself except for meals. And when I go see my dad (alternating weekends), it's not like I've got any rules there either. It's something you have to get used to, to be able to take responsibility for yourself, but it comes with time.

As for music related stuff, I'm still playing bass quite a bit, still no band, though. I'm taking lessons, but I'm also thinking about quitting those as I don't really have the drive to keep up with them. It's all stuff that, if I take the time, I can learn on my own, but mostly I just don't feel like it anymore. I like playing, I'm just not that into the lessons at this point.

Other music related stuff is that I've started working on my singing as of a couple weeks ago. I don't have any real purpose other than that I just want to get good at it for myself, so that it's something I can do because it is a fun thing to do, so why not be the best I can at it? It's fairly difficult, but I've already noticed some improvements, so I know my efforts are for nothing. :D

Has anything been happening for you in terms of music/bands?

lemoley 10-03-2006 12:23 PM

Yeah, not enough traffic, sadly. Maybe the Other Instruments forum?
I'm contemplating stripping that jazz down and greenbursting it.
Please do. Green is my favorite color. That would look so amazing, especially on a Jazz. I'd say either a nice, bright, lime green burst..."acid green." Like this:

Not that exact figuring but that a color of bright green...omfg!

-Gav

Jimbobntnr 10-03-2006 12:55 PM

that figuring would be badass, a nightmare to airbrush, but badass.

can you send me the original?

bottlerocket 10-03-2006 01:03 PM

http://www.arthurdurkee.net/fractalart.html

I Googled "acid green" on an image search.

-Gav

Jimbobntnr 10-03-2006 01:04 PM

oh, crap. i thought it was yours. Last thing I need is to be accosted for stealing someone's artwork, lol.

bottlerocket 10-03-2006 01:09 PM

Hah, I wish it was mine. :p

I'm sure if you e-mail and ask he'd say it would be cool. If not, do something similar but somewhat different.

<3 my bass.

<3 my band

<3 the studio we are in now!*

*for free! Take that! :D We recorded the drum 'n bass of one song last friday and in a few weeks it will have 2 guitars and 4 vocals on top of that and I can promise you.. This will rock. The drums 'n bass already sound THAT great! :D

Normally I don't like the recording quality when we record. But this time, it already sounds ace.

heh, sounds cool, but dont be so confident. we thought our band was good, but everyone here on MX completely roasted our band.... :upset:

Doesn't matter!
I've got quite a few nice comments on my band from MX! And the studio engineer said that he could hear some early U2 and Blondie in our sound. Well if that isn't a great compliment?

But yes, I will let you guys hear it :) No matter what you think, we think that it's great and so do a lot of others.

About your band.. When you have fun in it, it doesn't matter what the intern3t says! :thumb:

So I got to play the Warwick LTD for 2006 today.

The Thumb Bolt On with the Birdseye Poplar top.

Wow, GAS just hit new levels.

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 02:13 PM

Hey.

Jimbobntnr 10-03-2006 02:23 PM

So I started stripping that bass. It used to be the same color as jody's. I could strangle someone.

PietroCrespi 10-03-2006 02:30 PM

That new red one?
