he basically wrote a whole paragraph to take a crack at the circus riff...lol im done now
I love that riff... :(

Shattered_Future 04-22-2008 09:31 AM

Yeah, that wasn't very well done at all, but there is one point I sort of agree with...it does almost seem like the album gives off an air of pretentiousness. It's the same feeling I get when I listen to Be by Pain of Salvation, albeit Fortress is a lot better.

Tyler 04-22-2008 11:37 AM

I dont see how there's at all a sense of pretentiousness. It's ambitious, lyrically, but there's a lot of schmaltz and cheese thrown in to balance it out.

Shattered_Future 04-22-2008 11:46 AM

I don't know how to explain it. The songwriting has a little bit of pretentiousness though...

illpressureurhinges1 04-22-2008 11:53 AM

It's not pretentious at all... I don't know what you are talking about.

Tyler 04-22-2008 12:01 PM

I see what he's saying I just don't think ambition =/= pretentious

pate 04-22-2008 12:45 PM

Anything that's not post-rock can't be pretentious.

The first video is probably the most entertaining thing I've seen all week.

Edit: Does anyone else get a feeling that Rody has a thing redheads?

BridgeToSolace 04-25-2008 09:01 AM

I <3 protest the hero.

Fortress took me a little while to get into just because it's all over the place. They pack more music in one song than most do in an entire album. It's also a bit less catchy or sing-along-able as a result (compared to Kezia)

I think I prefer Kezia, but I still can't get enough Fortress. I've listened to Bone Marrow 100+ times according to my mp3 player.

Benzilla 04-25-2008 09:25 AM

He's talking about the chromatic breakdown behind the cookie monster vocals.

I've listened to Sequioa Throne like over 300 times.

Tyler 04-25-2008 01:44 PM

That's awesome because it's a competition you know!

illpressureurhinges1 04-25-2008 01:45 PM

I wasn't competing... I was just stating a fact. You know, you don't ALWAYS have to try to make people feel stupid.

pate 04-25-2008 02:52 PM

It's so easy to do.

gmoneyguy 04-25-2008 02:55 PM

Why do you have to be such a stupidface!?

Tyler 04-25-2008 03:42 PM

new video is premiering on much right now

Tyler 04-25-2008 03:55 PM

They performed. Rody's voice is absolutely shot, lol.

Benzilla 04-25-2008 04:59 PM

Which song is the video for?

Tyler 04-25-2008 05:02 PM

Sequoia Throne

http://axs.muchmusic.com/?fr_search=%22Protest%20The%20Hero%22

It's there. If you're Canadian you can watch it.

Performance was Bloodmeat.

The Dissentience 04-25-2008 06:16 PM

I'm getting a heavy Mike Patton influence from Rody in the new vid. also gnarly stache.

Tyler 04-25-2008 06:22 PM

*weak stache. Mine is at least 20 times bigger. He's a Patton fan for sure though.

kattunlover69 04-26-2008 10:44 AM

horrible quality

Benzilla 04-26-2008 01:22 PM

Rody's black lungs must have loved being chased through those (lecture) halls.

Tyler 04-26-2008 01:36 PM

It is with moustaches. Always. Those guys (well, Tim) take facial hair seriously.

Static 04-26-2008 01:45 PM

Haha, I was being serious in that case.

Benzilla 04-26-2008 03:07 PM

Tim is always going to win. I think the only guys who can top him are the guys from ZZ Top and this guy:

kattunlover69 04-27-2008 02:15 AM

nvm
It is with moustaches. Always. Those guys (well, Tim) take facial hair seriously.
Facial hair is very important, especially when you need to create the illusion of jawline.

kattunlover69 04-28-2008 10:31 AM

so how is moe like irl.....to me he seems like a stoner guy

also i think the video is suppose to follow the "to stalk us like a predator" line and rody is suppose to be the supposed ones to come and kill them...i dunno just sumthing i thought up the past 1 min

Tyler 04-28-2008 01:10 PM

not really it's just supposed to be rody chasing and killing them, there isn't that much thought to it.

also, moe is a stoner. nice guy but kind of creepy.

guitarded_chuck 04-28-2008 01:23 PM

they all seemed like stoners when i got baked with them after a show in Halifax a few months ago :p

ps this album is so good it doesn't get old

Capricious 04-30-2008 06:49 AM

Oh my god, im watching the latest pth performance at much, this is embarrassing. He never sounded this bad even in shitty live kezia performances before they were 18. So bad! Complete with lackluster backup vocals by tim trying to bail him out in sequoia throne. Now its bloodmeat, his voice is popping/cracking when he tries to shriek, he's murmuring the soft parts-thats not even singing! When he's performing his bellowing parts his voice 'falls out.' He sounds like (gasp)M. Shadows with blown vocal cords who cant reach those notes.

Hmm the interview does explain that he does indeed have blown vocal cords from this last tour. I had a buddy at work tell me he saw this live on tv and said it was bad--i had previously given him the instrumental album so i was just saying the usual 'yeah his voice is pretty polarizing'... but i didn't know what he saw was this terrible; so i think this was his first time hearing them with vocals. What a bad day for the label trying to garner new fans.

DBlitz 04-30-2008 08:26 AM

Well on the live videos I saw, his vocals were always pretty crap

kattunlover69 04-30-2008 08:56 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ovh35HHi8A

he smokes during the performance.....wuheva

lol @ people throwing stuff at him

another matt murphy interview

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9NLXVJ8Mvs

James46n2 04-30-2008 10:32 AM

While some people have a distaste for his voice and he sometimes struggles live, the performance on much music is definitely a big aberration. His voice was ****ED - during the interview, he barely spoke, and when he did he sounded like a zombie.

I've seen these guys play many times and in general Rody has got better and better at singing live. This was just a case of catching them right at the end of a tour that had few offdates. He probably shouldn't have sang at all with his voice in that condition, I guess. It might have been interesting if they'd just performed instrumentally - didn't they have to do that for a show or two when they toured the States last year or the year before?
