I thought that was for The Wall sessions and tour  Yeah, Rick went on vacation in Greece while they were working on The Wall and Roger kicked him out of the band for it. For one reason or another (Dave and Nick probably talked him into it) Roger let him come back on as a session musician for the tour. He was the only member to actually make money on the tour, the other three spent a crapload of their own money on the tour but he got paid to be on it :D But yeah, Roger didn't actually let him come back to the band for The Final Cut unfortunately. According to something I read though, Rick hit a creativity block around that time or something, so maybe that's part of the reason. Rog is still a dick though
That's what Mason said, too.

Np - Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson.
Anyone here checked out Water's solo work? Now that I've got all of Dave's I kind of want to look into his. And lately I've had sort of a new found appreciation for his talents as a lyricist.
Amused To Death is a great album, very similar to The Final Cut.

Jim 06-11-2006 11:04 PM

^I second that. The songwriting is very much the same, and the lyrics are just as good, if a little over-metaphorical. The usual stadium rock anthems are there and the ballads are just lovely. The only drawback is his voice which is, quite frankly, shot to buggery. He's got alot of singers backing him up though.

If you like The Final Cut, get Amused to Death.

Kaiwaz 06-12-2006 12:05 AM

Do you guys know what is meant by Daisy Chain in the song Brain Damage? I feel no one here has a clue...

Is that the one that Eric Clapton played guitar on?

lamb_of_goddrummer 06-12-2006 11:53 AM

I love listening to Pink Floyd whenever I'm high...

I do as well.. But not stoned or drunk is quite acceptable as well. :thumb:

I have a question.

So a limited number of users post here, and you discuss a band that doesn't exist anymore.

It's very interesting and I posted here a while ago, but how long can you discuss the same things between the same users?

Just a question. Love the Floyd

I've been wondering the same thing. I guess this is just to prevent multiple Floyd threads and it's a place where you can ask Floyd related questions, and even if they've already been asked, it's much less annoying having the same questions repeated in one large thread then having people make multiple threads pertaining to the subject.

Considering that this is the succesoor to a very large thread on the same subject that was closed due to size, and the fact that we've been doing this for at least two or three years, quite a while :thumb: I learn something new all the time in here, plus it's great to hear opinions and stuff on albums and songs.

There's just so many facets of each song, each album, each member to discuss. A band as deep as Pink Floyd makes it easy to talk about stuff, even if we do repeat ourselves a bit.
I love listening to Pink Floyd whenever I'm high...
That's not the only really to listen to them.
Is that the one that Eric Clapton played guitar on?
Nope. This one has Jeff Beck and John Pattituci, though.
Do you guys know what is meant by Daisy Chain in the song Brain Damage? I feel no one here has a clue...
He's remembering making daisy chains, a fairly common practice in England in the '40s and '50s amongst children. I'm not sure if you have green things in the US, so I'll expand upon it.

Plants are these things that don't need to eat, since they make their own food. They're very tough things, and although they're living, the majority don't grow. You may have seen trees in a museum, or something. The lettuce you get on your McDonalds burger is a dead plant.

Anyways, daisies are a type of flower, which is basically a pretty plant. And you can use the stems to chain them together, and so you have a pretty necklace by the end of it. :p

Kaiwaz 06-12-2006 07:08 PM

I was under the impression he was reffering to something a little more twisted, if you know what I mean.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisy_Chain

Riva 06-12-2006 07:10 PM

Wouldn't fit into the context. "Remembering games, daisy chains and laughs..."

Kaiwaz 06-12-2006 07:15 PM

Yeah that's true, but what type of games? He was demented, could be sex games, and laughing at the fact his old lady was just pounded by his friend...but then that would just be silly. Yours is better.

ICE BURN

Was that really necessary, River? I mean, just because there aren't any naturally green things left on this barren wasteland we call the US of A, that doesn't mean I can't look up these things you call "plants" on Wikipedia. We're not barbarians you know.

This Pink Floyd BBC performance I have is really good. It's mostly Atom Heart Mother stuff on this one, the other has Meddle stuff mostly. If is a really good song IMO, it shows Roger's lyrical-nicity really good and stuff.

Riva 06-12-2006 11:34 PM

What happened to that DSOTM bootleg, hmmm?

Yah, I understand. Favourite Albums:

Animals, Meddle, The Wall, WYWH

Yet to hear albums:

Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, Atom Heart Mother and Obscured by Clouds.

I'm sure they're good.

Riva 06-13-2006 05:05 AM

You really should attempt to get The Final Cut and Obscured By Clouds soon. Great albums.

Dragon_Prince 06-13-2006 05:37 AM

I think Atom HEart Mother is better than the others, just got to love summer '68 and Fat Old Sun

Riva 06-13-2006 05:41 AM

Hehe, I love the announcer in BBC archives: This is The Fat Old Sun, a new song from the album The Atom Heart Mother, by The Pink Floyd.

The guy was obsessed with the word "the"...

robo2448 06-13-2006 06:34 AM

The BBC Archives are great.

LF96 06-13-2006 10:10 AM

Are these BBC Archives on some sort of official CD or is it a bootleg?

Atom Heart Mother is better than Obscured By Clouds if you ask me, although only by a small shot. I'm getting quite interested in The Final Cut, I just might pick it up one of these days. I'm really digging the concept.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice that  He reminds me of the announcers in Monty Python sketches, I guess just because he's British and I'm a stupid American. I'm thinking of the one audio skit where all the movie stars are crashing into each other.

Hey Riva, I can't send you that bootleg right now, but I can send this great Pythn album I've got... it's rather a sampler of all things Python, it's got live bits, bits off movies, made-for-record bits, songs, etc. It's great.

Excellent song, though. My Floyd collection begins at Atom Heart mother. Although I have been considering the old pop stuff.

SOS isn't really poppy, not like PATGOD.

EDIT: Actually, thinking of it, More, most of Ummagumma, and SOS are pretty much progressive/psychadelic rock.

BigTrav415 06-13-2006 11:49 PM

I'd definitely consider SOS progadelic to say the least. Haven't heard Ummagumma yet, More is just a bunch of everything awesome thrown into a soundtrack. Speaking of which, More Blues is one of my favorite songs right now. Gilmour's lone electric weeping with the random drum groove...

By the way, does the piano riff in Remember A Day sound familiar to anyone else? It's driving me insane trying to figure out where I've heard it before :(

P.S. Green Is The Colour is even better on BBC Archives :)

SoS?

You gotta love the back cover of that Vinyl.

Riva 06-14-2006 06:11 PM

Saucerful Of Secrets. And yeah, I always think of something when I hear Remember A Day, don't know what tune, though.

Riva 06-18-2006 03:26 AM

So then, PULSE is finally getting released on DVD. Anyone put in a pre-order yet?

Danger Bird 06-18-2006 10:58 AM

SoS and Ummagumma are my favorite albums, I think.

Nope, didn't know.. Thanks for the info, I'll definatly buy that DVD when it comes out.

Broken Arrow 06-18-2006 11:43 AM

Wasn't it supposed to come out around Christmas? I remember everyone talking about it around then but I never heard and follow up to it.

Riva 06-18-2006 07:03 PM

It was supposed to be released about 50 times in the past, but each time it got bumped back. This is the first time that my local record store has advertised a pre-order though, so it may be the real thing!

Danger Bird 06-24-2006 04:57 PM

What the fuck guys?

I don't want to keep shocking this thread back to life.

Riva 06-24-2006 06:41 PM

Well, PULSE is drawing closer. I can't believe you guys didn't know about it being released on DVD, finally.

Also, I really love Live At Pompeii.

666Ozzfan 06-24-2006 11:30 PM

Well, I finally have a decent collection of Pink Floyd albums:
Piper at the Gates Of Dawn
Animals
Wish You Were Here
The Division Bell
The Final Cut
Momentary Lapse Of Reason
The Wall
Dark Side Of The Moon
