the only reason i backed out is because im sick of people feuding over the flaws of the members of pink floyd. they were all brillient in their own way. i just ended it because the conversation was going no where and we were basically dominating the fourm, when people could have been talking about more improtent things
No one else is talking about anything else, and besides more than one argument can go on at one time. Now tell me, what was so great about Syd? And dont be vague by saying "He was great in his own way".

ok, he went out of his way to be original, i mean ive never heard anything like what he did, well the 1967-1970 years of the beatles mabye, but he wrote songs like astronomy domine before that. his lyrics have so many meanings, and so many meanings to the individual, and i dunno when i listen to his music i feel inspired, i guess thats why his stuff has such an impact on me

lunch998 01-31-2005 12:06 PM

The only Syd did for me was make one good album. I always thought that with Syd Pink Floyd would have died out with the many other late 60's psychadelic bands. They were able to evolve into so much more musically and lyrically with Gilmour and Water respectivly.

But no one can know, that is just my opinion.

yea well i actually feel the same way, i mean while i obviously respected syds work but its true they needed dave to evolve to such a good band

Zed_Leppelin 01-31-2005 02:05 PM
and another thing, he was great live because takes songs like astronomy domine that last for 4 minutes and add antother 3 or 4,
Wow, that really is amazing. And I sat here thinking that ever other band in the world does that.

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 02:10 PM
Wow, that really is amazing. And I sat here thinking that ever other band in the world does that.
i never said he was the only one, i was asked why syd was so great live, i like bands that have instrumental solos

Shazzam 01-31-2005 02:35 PM

Hey, band together and vote for THE WALL in the polls, so the vote doesn't get split and no Floyd albums go through.

Sorry other Floyd albums, but we need at least one to win.

Otherside 01-31-2005 02:52 PM

Vote WYWH, it's better album.

shawnson 01-31-2005 03:08 PM

this is why we cant all vote one album.... we want other ones to win. VOTE WALL!!

Kingofdudes 01-31-2005 03:52 PM
Vote WYWH, it's better album.
1 tr00 3

magicbus 01-31-2005 06:08 PM

WYWH is probably their best album.

Woodstock 01-31-2005 06:09 PM

I voted Wish You Were Here and DSOTM. I think DSOTM is greater musically than Animals.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 01-31-2005 06:15 PM

I voted Wish You Were Here. That radio station I mentioned before had a Pink Floyd weekend; they played entire PF albums. I was pretty pissed off that I missed most of it though.
i never said he was the only one, i was asked why syd was so great live, i like bands that have instrumental solos
You know Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord can take a 3 minutes song and turn it into a 15 minute long masterpiece?

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 06:59 PM
You know Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord can take a 3 minutes song and turn it into a 15 minute long masterpiece?
lol why do people think i was trying to take things away from other people by saying syd was good at jamming, all i said was......syd is good a jamming, and i have heard richie blackmore and jon lord jam out and its VERY impressive :thumb:

DeusExMachina 01-31-2005 07:39 PM

Vote WYWH. The Wall is in first place, WYWH is in third place. It needs votes to make sure it goes through. Besides, WYWH is their best album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2005 07:42 PM

Uhh...I went with Animals. :D Don't worry, I'm sure The Wall and WYWH will go through easily. Rep ++

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 07:45 PM

that list was so hard to choose from because pigs (3 different kinds) is my favorite song, but the wall is my favorite overall album

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 09:29 PM

you know even though i am torn i think that the wall is the one that should win. i mean when i listen to the wall in full, by the time i get to the track "outside the wall" i am blown away every time, does anybody else feel the same way

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2005 09:38 PM

I personally don't think The Wall is their greatest work. As far as Floyd's albums, I'd say it's my 3rd or 4th favorite after Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, The Division Bell, then The Wall. Personally, I think Pink Floyd is at their best when writing the longer songs. I'm not talking about going extreme, like Dogs(even though it is amazing) but songs in the 6 to 10 minute range are my favorites. There are many exceptions, but the majority lie within that range, and since the longest song on The Wall is Comfortably Numb at somewhere around 6:30, I appreciate their other albums more. I still think the Wall is a genius peice of music, just not quite as much as some of their others.

KingofDudes 01-31-2005 09:41 PM

The Wall is good, but no where near their best. That would be either Animals or WYWH

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2005 09:42 PM

Hey what the hell?! Gilmour, aren't/weren't you KingofDudes?

Kurtz 01-31-2005 09:43 PM

The Wall is excellent, but not their best. I'd say WYWH is, along with Dark Side of the Moon.

KingofDudes 01-31-2005 09:43 PM
Hey what the hell?! Gilmour, aren't/weren't you KingofDudes?
No...

lunch998 01-31-2005 09:44 PM

Musically, the Wall pales to other Floyd albums, except for a few high points(Hey You, Comfortably Numb) I prefer WYWH and Animals like Gilmour/KingofDudes said.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2005 09:48 PM

I agree with you. Hey You and Comfortably Numb are my favorite songs off of The wall. I raelly like the intro riff that goes with Hey You. It sounds fairly difficult, but it's insanely easy to play.

Kingofdudes 01-31-2005 09:48 PM
No...
Who are you?

The vocals in the middle of Hey You("It was only fantasy,...etc) are the high point of the entire album for me.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2005 09:50 PM

He goes off line, you come online. I beleive we have some deciet in our midst!

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 09:51 PM

yea i guess the reason why i like the wall so much is because well the two careers i want to go into are screen writing and music, and to see sombody bring both feilds together so well is what does it for me

KingofDudes 01-31-2005 09:53 PM
He goes off line, you come online. I beleive we have some deciet in our midst!
I was grabbing a bite to eat

but yeah, WYWH should go through to the final

KingofDudes 01-31-2005 10:04 PM

So what do you guys think of Obscured by Clouds?

Kingofdudes 01-31-2005 10:04 PM

It might lose to DSotM though

pigonthewing82 01-31-2005 10:29 PM
So what do you guys think of Obscured by Clouds?
i love that cd, that is pink floyds most peaceful sounding album, its so relaxing and you can see hints of dark side of the moon in it

lunch998 01-31-2005 11:37 PM
So what do you guys think of Obscured by Clouds?
It's a great record.
It's a great record.
Yea, I played it and was like "whoa..."

lunch998 01-31-2005 11:48 PM

I love the first two tracks, which are instrumentals.

Riva 02-01-2005 12:50 AM

I only have it on tape, but I love it to pieces. I do however, live in constant fear of it being eaten by the player.

Riva 02-01-2005 01:15 AM
