Or you can just buy them in the order they were recorded...if you are new to Opeth, That's what I would do. But My Arms, Your Hearse is the album I listen to the most; I can't get the Outro to ''Credence'' out of my head!

The thing I like about that album is Akerfeldt actually wrote and recorded all the bass parts to it. Not to mention the LP is one story to begin with. :thumb: A true Masterpiece.
FINALLY!!!! Another MAYH fan. It is my favourite album hands down, i just love it, although nobody else here seems to.

As for the article on Opeth.com, here is another small excerpt, funnier then the one before, haha.

Mikael Akerfeldt-There you go, I'm suprised it never dawned on you earlier that I am actually the son of God, Jesus Christ. My carpenting skills are very good too so I thought it was obvious for you all. I grew tired of one stringed instruments and tablas down in Jersualem so when I got incarnated in Stockholm the whole death metal scene really took me by storm. Don't tell dad but even enjoy the satanic lyrics, maybe I'll convert?

I don't know what the F*** you're talking about...all I know is you're Ignorant. If You ever talk smack about Akerfeldt or put absurd segments belonging to his ~so-called-statements~ ... try me.

Dude, you do realize that Akerfeldt has a sense of humor, right? He actually posted that on their forum, it's called 'taking the piss'.

you fool, it was a joke article written on the official site on April fool's day, they took the article down, and this is one of the excerpts i could find. So shut the f*ck up before you say something like that again you **** fanboy, can't even take a f*cking joke, created by the band you so sorely worship.

Det_Nosnip 04-23-2005 01:15 AM

Easy, easy!! We're all Opeth fans in here. Keep the hating and harsh language for people who DON'T like the band. ;)

Really? I thought that MAYH was when they got the Martins.

It was, but Mendez didn't have time to learn the material before they were to enter the studio, so Mikael did the bass parts.

Actually the Mike as Jesus thing wasn't an april fool's joke, it's from a few months ago. There was a thread where some guy tongue-in-cheek was claiming that Mike to be the second coming, and later on in the thread Akerfeldt popped in and posted that little nugget.

yup, but only one martin(lopez, the drummer) played on the album. They got the bassist shortly before mayh (remember the martin's are cousins, and lopez introduced the idea of mendez playing for opeth) and mikael didn't have a good chance to gauge mendez's writing/playing abilities--so he decided to play bass.

Deth 04-23-2005 07:12 PM

I don't know whether it's because I'm stupid, but I went to centurymedia.com and they have MAYH listed at $5. That just seems wrong.

Have you seen the portrait of Mike painted as Jesus? Maybe it has a connection.........

The SYL drummer played for Opeth a few times when Lopez was sick. Apparently he had perfected the songs in about 3 hours, thats pretty sweet :D

That drummer would be Gene Hoglan, and he's probably the greatest metal drummer on the planet. He's ****ing incredible...check out his stuff with Death, he used alot more finesse with Chuck (Gene played on the Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic albums).

Heck yeah, some people say he sounds too much like a drum machine. All i have to say is..................how is that a bad thing? Gene is a beast of an animal of a drummer. I think the only metal drummer that comes close to him technically is Mike Portnoy. Then again, i haven't heard many death metal drummers, and i know they are awesome. Flo Mournier for example.

azbassman 04-25-2005 12:47 PM

the2stranger 04-25-2005 01:22 PM

all the tracks are great

but bleak is probably my favorite on the abum.

The "drum machine" thing would definetly be a bad thing...it connotates a lack of emotion, lack of any "human" elements to a person's playing; flat feel. I could see that with SYL, but with Death his playing was VERY human. He's one of the few metal drummers (Martin Lopez, John Tempesta, Dave Lombardo, and Sean Reinart being a few other examples) who can really groove...check out "Crystal Mountain" for an excellent example of this. With SYL, I think his drumming is mostly reflective of what Devin wants him to do, which is, like you said, to emulate a drum machine.

Your Body is mine to avail
Such a tragic sight you are
Slave under my creed
Spurring me with those tears-
The Leaper Affinity

Deth 04-25-2005 06:52 PM

I like Leper Affinity better than BWP actually. I like the contrast within it.

Darkness 04-25-2005 07:33 PM

Leper Affinity is awesome... I hope they play it live on sounds of the underground.

Deth 04-25-2005 07:34 PM

In all likelihood they will.

It's a very good song, but off of that album, I'd say the Drapery Falls is the best song (is my favorite song).

According to Metal Archives, they actually have a keyboardist who isn't just a session member for once

Darkness 04-25-2005 08:16 PM

Thats kinda werid cuz on the Opeth guitar lesson Mikeals like "when most people want to do something new they bring in a keyboard player but we believe there is still stuff to do on the guitar" or something to that effect...

Grey Incision 04-25-2005 11:15 PM

hmmm, Per Wyberg? (don't know how to spell the name)

Det_Nosnip 04-26-2005 12:05 AM

Being able to do something new without a keyboard player doesn't necessarily mean you can't still use a keyboard player. :)
I like Leper Affinity better than BWP actually. I like the contrast within it.
It was the song that converted me to the Opeth cause! :)

Have a go with "Still Life" it was the first Opeth album that I heard and its great :)

Yep.The Leper Affinity sealed the deal for me as an Opeth fan.
