Norma Jean's energetic, but they suck live.

jrowa001 07-14-2007 01:02 PM

norma jean sucks period

RetiredAt21 07-14-2007 01:02 PM

Yeah, Norma Jean sucks balls.

Dimmu Burger 07-14-2007 01:03 PM

I have an appreciation for them. I think their music kinda has to be simple so that they can go nuts live.

i am the robots 07-14-2007 01:05 PM

I enjoy their music for no apparent reason, but I honestly think they put on a horrible live show. Probably the vocals blowing out all the time.

Nepenthe 07-14-2007 01:07 PM

I've said it before, but half of Norma Jean's songs are really good and the other half completely blow.

Dimmu Burger 07-14-2007 01:09 PM

I would say that is an accurate assessment.

i am the robots 07-14-2007 01:10 PM

Yes. This is very true.

And Luti-Kriss was a fucking joke of a band... except that one song, Black Smith.
Their song on Guitar Hero II is nuts though!
Yeah that song is called Six. It's pretty ****ing amazing.

And Norma Jean are horrible live and meh on Cd.

Josh can't even get his own lyrics right, and he's the best vocalist they've had... pretty sad.

Invicta_Veritas 07-14-2007 04:30 PM

ATR fucking rules.

Tyler 07-14-2007 04:33 PM

The latest ATR album is solid yeah. I'd say the melodeath influence is stronger than the hardcore though, and his vocals improving did a lot to make it better.

RetiredAt21 07-14-2007 04:33 PM

No, they definitely don't.

EDIT: to BRA

Invicta_Veritas 07-14-2007 04:34 PM

I thought his vocals were great beforehand, but Melissa really brought him to a whole new level.

Eh, the only improvement he made was that he showed more variation... his mids on This Darkened Heart are a lot better, but the variation he added, once more, makes it a lot cooler, even if his lows are sort of pathetic.

Tyler 07-15-2007 12:12 AM

He sounds like he's brushing his teeth with those lows.

i am the robots 07-15-2007 12:13 AM

He sounds like he's got tone and placement down, but he just isn't pushing enough for the rasp, if they threw a little tiny bit of distortion or if he pushed a little harder, those would be AMAZING lows.

Tyler 07-15-2007 12:14 AM

They're pretty low in the mix anyways. I know a dude working with Melissa Cross.

Apparently she's batshit insane.

i am the robots 07-15-2007 12:16 AM

I can imagine from how many times I've watched the Zen Of Screaming DVDs... she just seems waaaaaaay too, "spirited."

Invicta_Veritas 07-15-2007 02:31 AM

Yea, that DVD makes me question her sanity sometimes. She's a little, well, odd.

Yea, I wish his lows were higher in the mix. There's one song where he does a hell of a growl underneath everything that lasts forever, but you really have to listen because it's so low in the mix.

jrowa001 07-15-2007 08:47 AM

the new Nodes of Ranvier album sucks so bad! them and Still Remains are putting out *****y albums after making some quality original sounding metalcore albums. its too bad, both their new albums sound the same and are similar to the last It Dies Today album. why are all these bands going that direction??

ThePrimer 07-15-2007 03:26 PM

haha I feel the same about that xD
I've learnt some good stuff watching that DVD

i am the robots 07-15-2007 03:31 PM

The warm-ups were the only really useful thing in that shi.

Tyler 07-15-2007 05:13 PM
The warm-ups were the only really useful thing in that shi.
She's really helping this dude though. I cant speak for the DVDs but he's apparently working with her personally and it's doing wonders.
There's one song where he does a hell of a growl underneath everything that lasts forever, but you really have to listen because it's so low in the mix.
Probably the Weak Willed. That song is full of lows, but they're not all that strong.

Invicta_Veritas 07-15-2007 05:15 PM

That's a good song. I personally really like "Empty Inside". Especially the chorus, lots of good melody and he really got a lot better with his high range.

i am the robots 07-15-2007 05:53 PM
She's really helping this dude though. I cant speak for the DVDs but he's apparently working with her personally and it's doing wonders.
Well yeah, but the DVD's don't have full lessons in them, they're just a brief explanation on what to do.
Probably the Weak Willed. That song is full of lows, but they're not all that strong.
The lows are strong, they just don't have enough rasp, if he gets that down, he's golden.

LifeInABox 07-15-2007 06:32 PM

I love Norma Jean and I have to disagree. I think they are great live, but I can see how people would dislike them. I for one do not.

i am the robots 07-15-2007 06:34 PM

Okay, here is proof that you're a moron:

LifeInABox 07-15-2007 06:37 PM

I've seen all the songs they recorded from that show. Some of them were good, some of them not so much. You can't make me change my stance on them so don't try bother trying by insulting me. It's pointless.
