Can someone recommend me some black metal similar to arcturus' later stuff, especially la masquerade infernal. Preferably clean vocals but im not too fussed. Cheers.
Winds could be something you might like. I'm only getting in to them now as well, but they're who I've gone to after Arcturus. It's more Avant Garde than Black Metal though.

Believer 05-03-2005 01:22 PM
Is it like screaming though? Cause I don't really like either

btw I don't know nothing to give you :upset:
Control Denied has no screaming at all, and Martyr doesnt scream like Black metal does, they just yell... I suppose somewhat like early Metallica

Stoic 05-03-2005 01:33 PM
Can anyone recommend me some metal bands that don't have nasty vocals? The whole screaming/growling just doesn't do it for me. Also I don't like Black Metal or Death Metal and all that category. Also, I don't like bands that have excessive Satanic lyrics so none of that either if you can. If it's one or two songs only, that's okay though.

I'm a big fan of stuff like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Edguy, Masterplan, stuff like that, I also enjoy some progressive metal like Symphony X.

Also, so you guys don't recommend me anything I already have. I already know of Manowar, Helloween, Saxon, Metalium, Lost Horizon, Iron Savior, Iron Fire, Firewind, Rhapsody, Falconer, Dragonforce, Motorhead, Magic Kingdom, Dragonheart, Cryonic Temple, Blind Guardian, KISS, Rush, Angra, Adagio, Nightwish, Power Quest, Queensryche, Sonata Artica, Stratovarius, Timo Kotipelto, Yngwie Malmsteen, Symphorce, Steel Attack, Racer X, Dream Theater, Katatonia, Procupine Tree, Valhalla... as well as the above bands I mentioned...

Anyways I know more than them but I'm thinking I should stop naming bands there...

Lastly, sorry for making this such a long post but I just wanna get into bands other than these. I'll actually be kinda surprised if anyone can recommend something else that I'll like
Finally some technical thrash mentioned!
Now for my request: Can somebody name me some good technical death or thrash metal bands, like Atheist, Death, Carcass, Martyr and all that... nothing that well known or anything, thanks

I'm going to suggest you try Opeth, I was never big on growling until I heard them. Their transitions between clean and harsh really opened up my musical tastes, and I think they could do the same for you.

Try:
The Moor
To Bid You Farewell (soft song, but I'm yet to hear someone speak poorly of it)
Bleak
If you don't want growling ,get D*amnation by them. You'll probably really like it since there's almost no screaming in it. Does anyone know where to get Blackwater Park with the bonus tracks and the enhanced besides amazon? Thanks.

Bartender 05-03-2005 04:58 PM

Why can't you just get it from Amazon?

The Cynic 05-03-2005 05:24 PM
Why can't you just get it from Amazon?
Because it's used and it's $60.00.

Can someone recommend some bands that are similar to Radiohead?

AA-12 05-07-2005 09:41 AM

I need some very sad/dark sounding music, basically like Doom Metal. I need a lot of bands, preferably ones that are not too hard to find. I'd also prefer that the guitar would be distorted sometimes.

munky_magik 05-07-2005 09:48 AM

If you want Doom recommendations go Here and either read through the thread, or ask Jondur for some band names.

The Prairie Prophet 05-07-2005 10:00 AM

Lightning Rider, you have to check out Into Eternity (www.intoeternity.net) they are on Century Media and have a beautiful mix of Clean vocals and well thought out and well placed death vocals. They're "Progressive Metal for the Death Metal fan and Death Metal for the Progressive Metal fan". One of my favourite bands. The great thing is I live in the same city as them and found out about them from the net before ever seeing them live or meeting them. It was this band that broke me into underground metal.

I too always seek clean vocals or a good mix. Can anyone recommend me anything in the way of Swedish melodic? I'm a huge fan of Soilwork and bands like Evergrey. Any thoughts?

Does anybody have any recommendations for music which sounds similar to the one above?

timskold214 05-07-2005 01:39 PM

Can anyone recommened any good goth metal music, or just plain goth music?

heyho_letsgo 05-07-2005 01:39 PM
Could people reccomend me some really good power metal? The only power metal I have right now is Iced Earth, and I would like some more, if possible. Thanks.
I recommend Rhapsody, Stratovarius, DragonForce, Blind Guardian. Thats some really good power metal.

Mansun, definitely. Martin Grech is cool too.

And if you want stuff like The Bends, try some Suede. (Or London Suede, depending where you live)

Can somebody reccomend me some good Sepultura songs? I like the older thrash stuff by them but I also like a couple newer songs, such as Mind War.

3rdplanet 05-07-2005 07:23 PM

So, I was floating around the internet, when I decided to download some Neil Young as I remember his album Harvest Moon being played a lot when I was a wee young chappy.

What would people say was his best work?

I really haven't heard much of them but, "Territory" and "Roots Bloody Roots" are awesome.

Dude3 05-07-2005 08:45 PM

While I'm at it,
What are some good songs from Neurosis, Isis,
and what is the best Sepultura album?

that one guy you call code red 05-07-2005 08:52 PM

The stuff on the site sounds pretty cool. I'll check them out more. Thanks :thumb:

LeperAffinity 05-07-2005 11:24 PM

Best Sepultura album would either be "Beneath the Remains" or "Schizophrenia". Good songs:

Inquisition Symphony
From the Past Comes the Storms
Troops of Doom
Beneath the Remains
Hungry
Slaves of Pain
Mass Hypnosis
Arise
Dead Embryonic Cells
Subtraction
Desperate Cry

Apocalyptic Raids 05-08-2005 03:25 AM
and what is the best Sepultura album?
Beneath The Remains or Schizophrenia. Personally i can't choose between them.

evilmenhavenosongs 05-08-2005 07:16 AM

I have a feeling that this should go in Other Music but we all know how much traffic that place gets.

I've been looking into Industrial, Darkwave, EBM etc. but I'm fairly new to it for the most part because there's just so much to get through basically.

At the moment I have some bands that I suspect from reveiws and stuff are good but I either can't get a hold of anything by them or I'm not sure of which album to get etc.

Faetal
Code 64
The Retrosic
Pain
Neuroticfish
Children On Stun
Hanzel Und Gretyl
Juno Reactor
Dulce Liquido
My Sixth Shadow
NIMP

I'm not sure if this is strictly allowed in the thread but what the hell. Which are worth following up and which just suck? Any other suggestions? Also, which Wumpscut album to get? I hear they vary in quality quite a lot. And are Audrey Horne worth investigating?

Alessandro 05-08-2005 07:30 AM
Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Radiohead (at times), and I've heard Tool compared to them. The first two of those are probably the best comparisons to make though, although it's hard to find many bands that really sound a lot like Pink Floyd. For their earlier, more psychedelic stuff, try bands like The Doors, The Beatles with albums like Magical Mystery Tour, and maybe some stuff by Cream as well.
Ignore that Tool comparison :smash: , thatīs just a bunch of Tool fanboys overrating their favorite band.

munky_magik 05-08-2005 08:47 AM
What bands are like Pink Floyd ?
Cheers
It's kind of a long shot, but try Ozric Tentacles.
They're kind of a psychedelic,ambient band.

If you like Dream Theater: Listen to Queensryche.

Shattered_Future 05-08-2005 09:24 AM
If you like Dream Theater: Listen to Queensryche.
Or Fates Warning, Pain Of Salvation, Symphony X...all are in the same vein as Dream Theater.
