I've only heard Roulette once, long ago, so I couldn't say. I know how the guitar goes though (a friend taught me) so I'd say Roulette > Spiders. Both are awesome songs though.

Jim 11-11-2005 03:42 AM

Kinda different songs. I'd prefer Spiders, but Roullette's nice and "mellow".

hotsmoke 11-11-2005 05:28 AM

OMG JOHN DOLMAYAN WHAT A BLOODY DRUMMMER !!! LIKE HES SOOOO GOOD!!!THAT ALSO WITH NO DOUBLE BASS:p

mutant! 11-11-2005 05:31 AM

Whatever, n00b. He does have a double bass. But he is really good, unlike the vast majority of current heavy drummers, he knows how to gooi a more rustig (chill) groove (as opposed to eighth notes on the bass with random cymbals on top).

Skit 11-11-2005 08:15 AM

John does have a double bass actually :thumb:

laba 11-11-2005 04:16 PM

Well that was pretty random, but on the topic of John, I think he is great, He has got some wicked stuff and he is one of my Favourite Drummers.

Jake_badass_bassist 11-11-2005 05:02 PM

azbassman 11-11-2005 05:04 PM

I love the bass on spiders...farly simple yet it sounds so good
OMG YES, I 100% agree with you. P.L.U.C.K. is my favorite song ever by SOAD. I tell people who love system about that song...and they just stare at me blankly.

Soil, P.L.U.C.K., Spiders, Suggestions....hell the whole first cd is amazing.
P.L.U.C.K is all that SOAD is about. The theme of genocide, the psycho fast parts, the clean and catchy riff and the mellowed out part (which gets me everytime).

It's definitely their best track.

I really don't know what it is about the first CD, but yes there is something there that keeps me hooked on it. Everytime I listen to it I feel like I've had an experience similar to a Tool or Opeth album, which is saying something.

And PEEPHOLE!

Now a question; what's the story behind Soil? I know they were called Soil before System of a Down so... was Soil recorded back then, or at least written? It's just that the drumming, slappings of profanity and only slightly distorted guitar make it seem more punkish and demo-ish. And I think the production is different.

Skit 11-12-2005 10:31 AM

When they where soil they didnt write any songs that are now assosiated with SOAD.
Soil mainly just jammed and never recorded any real songs.

Soil was written around 96-97, Recorded as a demo in 97 and Recorded on the album in 98 :thumb:

I actually went to the CD store today and listened to STA. Roulette pwns Spiders.

^ I say otherwise. Spiders > Roulette for me. Both are awesome songs though.

What songs do you love Serj's Voice best in?
What songs do you appreciate Daron's vocals in?

For Serj, I am loving ATWA right now, it shows his range well.

Roulette, for me, doesn't have the power of Spiders. Spiders has one of the greatest riffs ever.

I love Serj's vocals best in Suggestions, and I only really like Daron's singing in P.L.U.C.K.

mutant! 11-13-2005 03:56 AM

Everyone is talking P.L.U.C.K. but I haven't heard it. (My SOAD mp3 collection is highly disorganized and scattered.) As far as Serj is concerned, ATWA is quite good for showing his range off and all that but I love his part in Deer Dance. As for Daron, I'm loving Lost In Hollywood and the outro to Aerials.

Lolz, Viva la old style soad.

Stormrider 11-13-2005 08:31 AM

I saw the video of Hypnotize yesterday. It was the first time I heard the song. And I find it to be pretty ordinary. SOAD have done a lot better IMO.

clearvision 11-13-2005 08:39 AM

Yeah the single is pants. The album is not.

clearvision 11-13-2005 08:48 AM

Haven't had enough time to absorb it. I've only span it once.

It has more variation than mesmerize. But i don't know, i loved some moments of mesmerize...BYOB, Question!, Revenga, Sad Statue, Lost in hollywood.

I think it will satisfy most fans. Attack is very heavy reminiscent of s/t, as is vicinity of obscenity. Whereas Hypnotize and lonley day are more of a mesmerize style.

Darron again plays a big part in the singing. But i'm kind of used to his voice now so t doesn't bother me as much. Serj screams quite a bit which is good. I suppose you'll all ahev to see for yourself. It's on torrentspy if you want it. I would upload but it's not allowed anymore :-/

I rather Serj's singing then Darron. I mean it was okay when he sang every now and then but now its almost always.

Well its good then that it doesnt sound to much like Mezmorize. Its also good that theres some reflections from their first album. Their self titled is probably their best to me.

clearvision 11-13-2005 09:22 AM

Toxicity is their best, but i can't put my finger on why. In an interview in Kerrang! (yeah sh!t we know) Darron says he is singing because it's difficult to let serj sing about his feelings, Darron feels he needs to sing them.

I will give it another listen later and report back with an updated opinion.
