one TWO threeeeee, definetly yes, pickup up that djembe, that dijerido and blast em.
I totally agree. They should bring that world element back into their music.
mike? strap on your prs, plug in to your mesa, and unload.
Haha, no, I like what he's doing with his Fenders. I'll explain in the next paragraph...
ben? buy a warwick, lose the pick, bring the funk, and cutting basslines
No fcuking way. Ben's style is wayyy removed from Dirk's. His playing style and sound complement each other perfectly; and hell, his tone on Drive just pwns all. Anyway, I've recently come to the conclusion that the bass is the most important instrument in a band. Bassists should all be songwriters. The way I'm going to structure my music from now on is from the bass upwards. Because the bass is the instrument carrying the harmonies, it should follow that the bassist should write riffs for the guitarist to build on, not the other way 'round. Therefore, the guitarist should not follow the bass with power chords all the fcuking time, but instead should attempt to 'layer' with the bass, and fill out the sound, thus returning to the concept of guitar as a rhythm section instrument. It is for these reasons that I think Mike and Ben gel extremely well, and Mike's recent playing style/sound is very well fitted to this school of thought.
if these three things happened, id probably cry. i like aclotm, but man it would be the most glorious day if they took a step back, and wrote what i would like to call a mix of science/make yourself/morning view. oh yes
There is a word for taking a step backwards. It's called recession. :thumb: |
i totally agree on that bass monologue.
i thought Zach was vocals in this band we suddenly made up?
umm what are you talking about? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ok ok ok i accept defeat aboutthe bass after a long session of thought, i like both styles, but i kinda think i like dirks style a little better. they are both good nonetheless. |
the only reason i said Head was cause his and Dirks styles are similar. plus that was the first Guitarist off the top of my head who dropped out of a band. maybe put DJ Lyfe in the mix too while your at it haha. actually that'd be pretty cool to have a turntablist instead of a guitarist.
Head having similar style with Dirk:lol:  your kidding right:naughty: head is way to off for dirk's style or skills:smash: head would be the least guitarist others would pick up |

That's better. :) I still can't decide which bassist I like more. I dig Ben's style (as in clothing and behaviour, not musically), but I'm a fan of funk. So I dunno... I suppose I like Dirk more on the CDs but Ben more on stage. ...That being said, Incubus have never toured to South Africa. Stupid capitalist pigs. |
thats pretty true, i kinda like dirks sound more like style, but bens tone is pretty nice it would be better if he didnt use a pick IMO. but ben definetly seems to have more energy than dirk seeing as dirk just walked around
|
"hohoho marry chr-oh...whats your name lil boy"
"hey santa, howd you get so fat, FATASS" "hah what?!" "ya fatass" "owow santas kickin my ass!!" "thats what you get lilfucker" |
incubus are a really really good band whom i like very much. im not a huge fan of S.C.I.E.N.C.E or Fungus Amungus but don't mind them. i much preffered the old bassist (dirk was it?) than the new one (ben?) but thats just my opinion.

See? Noobs can be cool too. :thumb: You gotta remember, Ben was a guitarist. Can't blame the man for liking his pick. I don't think Drive would be the same if he played it fingerstyle; also, the pick serves to bridge the gap between bass and guitar somewhat, bringing the band closer to that unison of the two instruments that I am such a fan of. |
thats definetly true i like drive, but that new version of drive is amazing. im sure they are kicking themselves for not doing that originally.

nah, i still find fungus amongus and science better than the last three albums...
i just love the funkness of those two albums... |
Fungus is eh...i prefer incubus with a DJ so i like Enjoy better then FA...although "speak free" is money.
the only defference enjoy from fungus is that it has two new tracks...
nyay,,, oh well:)
...and on Enjoy, Incubus actually has a turntablist in the band too. On fungus it was just Brandon, Mike, Dirk and Jose. |
yeah i like enjoy better as well. if they like did fungus again like they did enjoy that would be class
|
i just watched the "when incubus attacks" dvd for the 8th millionth time. i really love the akoustic cali show they put on there. their instruments sound really good expecially the twang in Mikes guitar. i wish they would do new songs like that. i think that'd be swell.
|
Is that the one in the acoustic lounge with the jazzed-up version of Green? That song is just so brilliantly arranged. Go on, you go and try to arrange a metal track into a jazz tune. It takes skill, I tell you. I love Dirk's acoustic bass too.
The acoustic version of my favourite song, Summer Romance, is pretty neat as well. |

BUMP!
its frickin been awhile man...i was just listening to "make a move" and i was thinkin the bass fills in that song are pretty funky so i think Ben can bring the FUNK. |
I was just singing that song today while walking home from school.
/downloads make a move (again) |
my new wish for the new incubus cd... i wish Kilmore would scratch more...i like how he's in the background but he should have a showcase moment like on RED ROCKS
actually make that 2 wishes ..i wish it'd come out sooner :) |
I dont know about you guys, but i would still listen to Incubus if they didn't have Kilmore.
|
they wouldnt sound right without a DJ though...and they've carried the tradition this far...but if you mean replace, i think i could live with it but i'd kinda be pissed that they changed the lineup again
|
yeah i was definetly a lil pissed when they changed the lineup, i was definetly worried a bit about how they woudl sound. but it turned out to be ok. and to ad to your point, incubus would definetly not sound right without a dj.
