Arcturus - Masters Of Disguise 6:43 Intro : Weird electronic sounds, and then disoddant snyths come in, with the bass line. Vague background vocals, as the electrnoic sounds fade away. The synths become more "musical" Bg vocals continue. 0:46 - able to tell song is building up due to the "Wind effect" 0:50 - drums, distortion comes in. Clean vocals. Nice haunting effects. Very nice harmnozing of the vocals. Just haunting over here. 1:28 - song takes a different direction, giving a feel of a crowded street on a snowy Christmas night. 1:59 - Sounds like MDB cleans here, just less draggy. Nice piano lines at the back during vocals. Very classical influenced, and perhaps a little jazz/blues. 2:46 - i feel that the song is building up...but well..we'd see how it goes. 3:01 - Every stops and some electronic noise is produced. Not sure what, but this part is not musical, perhaps just to build the atmosphere. 3:30 - good way to enter into the song again, the vocals fade in very fast, and the clean vocals start again. soon, lead guitars come in. 4:06 - you can hear a scream, can't identify the gender, perhaps a female soprano, but i might be wrong. 4:12 - a nice instrumental break here. Clean electrics, and just a little jazzy stuff. 4:25 - the metal elemnts come in now, with the electric guitars and all. 4:34 - returns to "4:12" 4:44 - nice drum roll leads the song into a guitar solo. Very very fast, just shredding over here. 4:54 - a very high scream leads back to the cleans. 5:49 - song builds up, and goes into a very very strange structure. Song intensity change almost all the time, between say 5 secs. We have electronic stuff here, lead guitars here and there, some electronicized black metal screams. song ends with lead guitars doing some legatos. The song certianly can have more engery, but i think arcturus are trying to concentrate on the haunting factor. A great song, very complicated, i like the clean vocals alot. 8/10 Suggesttions Pantera - Cemetary Gates (thrash metal) Dark Tranquility - Insanity's Cresendo (melo death) Angel Dust - Temple of the King (power metal with some thrash) Children of Bodom - Triple Corpse Hammerblow (Agressive powermetal leaning unto melo death) |

Pantera - Cemetary Gates
I've heard some Pantera and never really was a fan, but we'll see how this goes. [0:00]-[1:30] It begins with a nice accoustic part, it has a very mellow sound. I really like it. The vocalist comes in, and I enjoy his voice, unlike the other Pantera I've heard. It continues like this for a while and an electric guitar comes in, and adds tension to the song. I am enjoying this so far. [1:30]-[3:00] The heavier side that I am more accustomed to shines through, with a nice riff laden with pinched harmonics, not overly quick, yet not slow, just enough to not completly change the song. It then goes back into the softer part and mesh's really well. [3:00] - [4:24] Returns to that same riff again, it adds nicely to the song. It then as expected returned to the softer part again. Towards the end electric gutiar come in. Goes into the chorus again, and yet once again not overly heavy, and I still enjoy his lyrics. [4:24] - [4:48] Again with the pinched harmonic riff, this is starting to get a bit repetative and annoying, but the other heavy part is still very enjoyable. [4:48] - [5:45] There is a palm muted chord progression into the solo, once again it meshed into the song very well. The guitar solo is not overly fast but very enjoyable. Wait theres the quick bit now :thumb: and its taking the heavy riff beneath the solo. and that riff continues. [5:35] - [7:03] :upset: That same pinched harmoinc riff. Followed by the heavy part I like. And some relatively high pitched vocals and guitar. Very nice song overall. I loved the accoustic part of the song and the early part of the solo. I also really enjoyed the heavy chord part which depicted sort of what I was expecting however I thought it would be heavier, and the vocalist I was expecting much worse. The only let down was that pinch harmonic riff, it got old very quick. All in all 9/10 My Recommendations: Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm (Rock) John Mayer - Neon (Pop-Rock) Dragonforce - My Spirit Will Go On (Power Metal) Tool - Prison Sex Aight: Breaking Benjamin - Polyamorous |
Could I get another choice? I've heard all those. Good listens to all of them too.

Dragonforce - My Spirit Will Go On
Well for some reason, I clicked on something and my review was lost. So I'm going to make this fairly brief. This song has a lot of melodics and teriffic singing. The beginning starts out with a nice mysterious intro. There is a huge part of the song where the keyboardist/guitarists rip some heartstopping solos. These guys do not hold back in this area of the song. The fast and upbeat rythm of the song really gets your heart pounding. It's a really good song to get you excited. I really liked it. 9.5/10. My reccommendations: Metal Church - Beyond the Black (Thrash) Metal Church - Watch the Children Pray (Thrash) Testament - Burnt Offerings (Thrash)(Guitarist from this band teaches the guitarists in my band.) White Zombie - Thunderkiss '65 (Hard Rock) |

White Zombie - Thunder Kiss '65
A chuggy guitar note is repeated to open the song. Simple drums to go with the guitar. And some hard vocals with a thick souther accent by Rob Zombie. The guitar plays some alternate riffs every now and then. Theres some lead guitar in the chorus part where he screams "WOW" in a really cheesy but cool hard rocking voice. The music is great to nod the head or tap the foot to. At 1:28, it gets more of a blues sound, I guess its just the chord change. It goes quiet for a bit, with a sample. Then busts back into it with a scream and wah guitar solo. Back to the verse with the southern sound dripping all over the place. Rob's voice sounds pretty much the same the whole time and gets a bit boring after a while. The music is pretty cool, simple but not uninspiring, once again, great to nod or foot tap to... it seems made for it. The rest of the song is pretty much various riffs, some interspersed lead guitar, and Rob's voice getting more and more annoying, with "WOW" coming out every now and then. Not a bad song, nothing really great though. I think it could get old quickly if I keep on listening to it right now, the beat keeping nature along with hard southern rock sounds is something that makes me smile though.. I don't know why, I usually go for more unusual stuff, but there's something in the simplicity of it that grabs me... yeah, right there. 7.5/10 ________________ Weddings Parties Anything - A Tale They Won't Believe - punkish sea-shanty about cannibalism. 7 mins http://www.comcen.com.au/~caracarol/ATaleTheyWon'tBelieve.mp3 lyrics - http://www.comcen.com.au/~caracarol/tale.txt |

Weddings Parties Anything - A Tale They Won't Believe
Starts off with some simple power chords. Sounds like punk. The singer comes in with a nice yell, and the song now sounds like a sea shanty. The singer is telling a story, with a couple guitar licks in the background and a basic bassline. The chorus is all of the instruments picking up intensity. Very cool. The pattern is a verse, then the chorus, then the verse again. The song gets a much needed change, with a really cool sounding guitar solo. This is the best part of the song. I was waiting for a change, so it's good that one came. This song is very strange, but I like it. It sounds to me like a good drinking song. I would have never thought to mix punk and a sea shanty. Interesting combo. 6.5/10 Frank Zappa - Willie the Pimp Frank Zappa - California Hard Core Ecstacy Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia Umphrey's McGee - Wife Soup The Marshall Tucker Band - Southern Woman I can YSI any of them |
