Go for it. If I could find a single Lennon CD in my record store, I'd snap it up like that.

Woodstock 12-09-2004 05:55 PM

Yeah, well I think this Acoustic one is brand new. I'll either get this or The Plastic Ono Band. Any thoughts on either?

Maggot Dream 12-09-2004 06:12 PM

I was wondering about that Acoustic CD, considering buying it as an Xmas present. I'm not a big fan, but my mom is. Can't find it anywhere though...

Amazon.com is your friend, I'm sure they'd have it.

Maggot Dream 12-09-2004 06:23 PM

Yeah, I'll have to check that out.....hate paying shipping, but oh well.

Seafroggys 12-09-2004 07:11 PM

Plastic Ono Band is an awesome album. You get God, Working Class Hero, Mother, Isolation, I Found Out, Do the Oz.....all badass songs that are a must have.

Can someone (possibly badmoon) recommend me some more good bluegrass/folky songs the Grateful Dead has?

I've have:
Brokedown Palace
Cumberland Blues
Dire Wolf - I'd really like some more songs like this, love it
Mountains of the Moon
Ripple

Fire On the Mountain is great, but it is pretty much reggae as opposed to bluegrass/folk.

thickasabrick 12-09-2004 09:05 PM

thats true.

so Stairway To Heaven won by ONE vote...who was it that was disappointed in me for voting for it? they will really be mad now. it was someone on here.

Badmoon 12-09-2004 09:08 PM

Ha, I voted for them. And if it wasn't for my almost hypocritical vote, they would have tied. ;)

You're welcome :thumb:

Yeah, keep in mind that a good portion of these are not Grateful Dead originals, some are even Traditional. You should check them out to Thickasabrick. I know how you like the traditional sense of some music.

Bluegrass/Country/Folk kind of songs
-------------------------------------------
I Know You Rider (trad.)
Monkey and The Engineer (trad.)
Cassidy
Row Jimmy
Mississippi Uptown Toodeloo
China Doll
Mama Tried (Merle Haggard)
Been All Around This World (trad.)
Bird Song
Uncle John's Band
Casey Jones
Me & Bobby Mcgee (Krist Kristofferson)
Black Peter

Well, that should do you good.

thickasabrick 12-09-2004 09:19 PM

ha, one mention of Grateful Dead and Badmoon comes chargin in to save the day.

i'll check out those songs. are they all Dead songs?

Badmoon 12-09-2004 09:21 PM

Other than when stated. But yes, The Grateful Dead play all of those songs. Though a portion of them never were released on record.

thickasabrick 12-09-2004 09:27 PM

fair enough...and damn you badmoon! you got the 16000th post! i was waiting for that for a while now.

and i still haven't gotten to finish listening to American Beauty. :upset:

Badmoon 12-09-2004 09:42 PM

I like American Beautt, but it's not my favorite. It was the second Dead album I ever bought, and the first studio album by them I bought.

From then till now, my all time favorite Grateful Dead song has been Sugar Magnolia. :)

and yes, 16000 is mine!!!

LouReed_is_Jesus 12-10-2004 03:20 AM

Anyone remember Iron Butterfly?....Inna Gadda Da Vida Baby!

corganfan001 12-10-2004 09:35 AM

gmoneyguy 12-10-2004 09:50 AM

what's your favourite album? I bought Workingmans Dead a few days ago and i thihnk it's great, i hadn't heard any of the songs off of it. they didn't have American Beauty so i just downloaded all the songs, im gonna try and buy the record when i can find it.

i really like Sugar Magnolia too, that and Friend of the Devil are probably my favourites from what i've heard.

i actually went to buy Blonde on Blonde, but it was 40 bucks cdn...Dylan records are always overpriced. i told my brother and sister to buy it for me for christmas, i'm excited. Workingman's Dead was only 10 bucks, they had a lot of Grateful Dead albums, but i didn't know what was good besides that and American Beauty..so i just bought one. they were all fairly cheap.

due to the recent success of our school's performance of Guys and Dolls, our Rememberance Day concert, and our Choir concerts...some teachers have asked me if i wanted to perform anything else for the school. I was thinking it would be cool to make a "concert for peace", and the money could go to some sort of charity. I know a lot of good protest and war type songs, and our school is filled with good musicians. i think it would be a good idea, im sure the local news guy wouldn't mind coming down, he likes doing stuff like this.

Does anyone think this sounds like a good idea? I could get up there and play a few Dylan/any good protest songs, and get a few friends to play some songs too. It could be like a Woodstock for my city.

Nice, do you have the songs you want to play sorted out, or do you want recommendations?

Distant Echoes 12-10-2004 02:47 PM

Any opportunity like that is one that i would never turn down.

Ask for songs...i cant think of any off the top of my head, but im sure that you would get alot of recomendations for some just by asking a few people around.

Tell us what your set list is going to be once you get it finalized!
