It'd look nicer without the tort guard, imo. A pearl or parchment would be pretty sharp. But, I have an unnatural bias against tort, so what do I know.

That's the only body/pickguard colour it comes in so I'm happy how it is :).

I agree. I think Tort is the absolute ugliest pickguard material one could ever have. I don't understand the love (especially on TB, omg...) for something that looks like remarkably like bloody vomit.

I'll let you slide, though, gassy, because you're across the pond and bought it stock like that.

I think the tortoiseshell is pretty sweet on it. It's a solid pickguard, 5-ply. That's the only spec it's available in so I never really worried, it's got its own unique colour and look and sounds hot as so I am a happy camper. It's reasonably collectible too I think.

I didn't realize you bought the Pino sig (although it should have been glaringly obvious by the color scheme). Doesn't that have a different neck profile and pickup windings than the typical American P?

Yeah it's supposed to be a custom wound pick-up based on his '62 P.

The sound out of it is great, lots of growl with the tone on full, and beautiful round and motowny with the tone off. It's a .1µf capacitor in the tone control which I think is why it seems to have more of a range of sounds than other tone knobs I've come across on basses.

The neck is quite hefty, definitely the widest neck I've had. Even for a Fender neck I think it is pretty wide, C shape if that helps. I'm used to Ibanez soundgear necks so it feels pretty bloody big to me. Loving it though.

It's true. The larger the value of the capacitor, the lower the attenuation frequency. I think his old P used to have 500K pots too, which would also create a larger range.

Now if only it came with Pino's feel....then it'd be perfect.
