My Bloody Valentine - "Only Shallow"
Radiohead - "Airbag"
Flaming Lips - "Lightning Strikes the Postman"

those come to mind.

anyway, I'm digging Radio Birdman, because they're reuniting, touring here, and putting out a new album.
Airbag is boring but I have heard "Lightning Strikes The Postman" and I agree.

Maybe MBV is the next step in my musical journey.

EDIT: I'm listening to a song I consider to be part of that group too: "198d" by At the Drive-In

vvvv Yeah I've heard OF them but that's about it.

Anxious 06-06-2006 04:32 PM
Lately I've been really into some songs that are really slow and soul-crushing, and heavy without being metal. Here are some examples:

Dino Jr- Thumb
Pavement- Grounded
Built To Spill- Carry The Zero (or maybe Randy Described Eternity)

So if you know any more songs in that vein, feel free to recommend them to me! As always, I still have much to learn about Alt/Indie music.
Have you heard of Big Black?

prurient 06-06-2006 05:24 PM

It's possible to dislike Loveless? Lies.

prurient 06-06-2006 05:33 PM

:-\

Glitterati 06-06-2006 06:26 PM

...and For My 8,000th Trick....

...Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary

I find it kinda dissapointing that Nate Mendel went from SDRE to something as crappy as the Foo Fighters :-\
:-\
Don't listen to those guys, they know nothing about music.

Zebra 06-06-2006 06:40 PM

Ride- Nowhere

The best shoegaze album evar.

YDload 06-06-2006 06:49 PM

prurient is dei ok ;)

Anyway I think I am changing my stance as far as the long songs on Yank Crime. I thought they were all pretty boring but Luau has gotten my attention finally.

Zebra 06-06-2006 06:57 PM
except for Loveless seriously have you missed this whole page
Loveless blows:cool:

ATM 06-06-2006 07:05 PM

Loveless is good, yea, and Ride are also good.

Jawaharal 06-06-2006 07:09 PM

Loveless is awful, I really can't dig the vocals at all.

ATM 06-06-2006 07:10 PM
Loveless is awful, I really can't dig the vocals at all.
Eh, to each is own. Shoegaze is nice and relaxing, IMO.

Zmev 06-06-2006 07:25 PM

Loveless ftw

Little Man being Erased 06-06-2006 07:51 PM

Bullshit. That album is awesome.
anyway, I'm digging Radio Birdman, because they're reuniting, touring here, and putting out a new album.
This is good news.
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska

Yeah this is ****ty watered-down early Dylan. I'm disappointed.
Disagreed. This is one of those albums that doesn't get old for me. On par with anything Dylan did, imo.

YDload 06-06-2006 07:53 PM

if i wanted watered-down Dylan i'd listen to the velvet underground >:-}

sr800bkBassist 06-06-2006 07:59 PM
if i wanted watered-down Dylan i'd listen to the velvet underground >:-}
hahahaha what?
i see no similarity whatsoever between Bob Dylan and the VU except that Lou Reed and Bob Dylan are my favorite lyricists.

ATM 06-06-2006 08:00 PM

Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask

Anything MF Doom is on, I seem to like a lot.

Little Man being Erased 06-06-2006 08:02 PM
maybe I'm missing something here but Nebraska really does not grab me at all. Eh.
It didn't hit me at first either. Give it a few more spins and see what happens.

Zappa 06-06-2006 08:11 PM

I hate Loveless.

pixiesfanyo 06-06-2006 08:14 PM
I hate Loveless.
Me too. Minus Sometimes which is one of the best songs ever written.

Luxor 06-06-2006 08:20 PM

It's a little too samey

prurient 06-06-2006 08:22 PM
I hate Loveless.
I hate you.

Zappa 06-06-2006 08:26 PM
Me too. Minus Sometimes which is one of the best songs ever written.
I'm sure I've never gotten that far into the album. I'll play that song now.

Tangy zizzle 06-06-2006 08:58 PM

^Blasphemer!

The Drips
Amboy Dukes
Beat Happening
The Bronx - II

Oh yeah, final word on MBV = they were (are?) overrated as hell. Jesus & Mary Chain are so much better.

Baudelaire 06-06-2006 09:06 PM

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope
I abuse my Siouxsie way to much. She never gets any 'spect.

cb240 06-06-2006 09:09 PM

Why do you dig like 15 different things a day DMD, why are you so ****ing indie?!!?

Tangy zizzle 06-06-2006 09:12 PM

Because if he gets enough indie points he'll win a George Forman grill man.

Anxious 06-06-2006 09:22 PM
I hate Loveless.
I'm with you on this.

Everything by them I like except that album.
