I do dislike the vocals, but the whole mentality of it just seems cheesey to me. The whole angry, death, grim-reaper images and stuff, and then the music (to me, at least) doesn't sound very dark at all. I just don't like that type of music.
yeah...i can see that. the 80's were a dark period in my opinion.

isis is cool though...right? haha.

edit: i see that they released two albums on mike patton's ipecac label, oceanic being one of them. thats cool. i thought i saw something about that somewhere.

repcak 10-19-2005 10:49 AM

hm... i think i should check out megadeath.... i like metallica, slayer, exodus and all the trash-bands but i never listened to megadeath...

PinkFreud 10-19-2005 10:52 AM

only if you spell megadeth right. thats the only way to listen to them. i swear.

kurrpt 10-19-2005 10:54 AM

ive been listening to Symphony X, Talib Kweli (rap that has amazing lyrics), Radiohead, APC, etc

misunderstood 10-19-2005 11:10 AM

^ Ah, APC never gets old..not for me anyway. Especially songs like '3Libras' 'The Noose' and 'Judith'. I've also been listening to NIN, Radiohead, Fantomas, QOTSA, Team Sleep, TMV, and of course, Tool.

kurrpt 10-19-2005 11:12 AM

i really havent listened to TOoL in a while, except when im actually playing the songs

Dried Muffin Remnants 10-19-2005 11:19 AM

Butthole Surfers, Primus, Isis, and Pelican have been taking over my scrobbler of late.

PinkFreud 10-19-2005 11:22 AM

i went to see a perfect circle when they had mini-kiss opening for them. it was a horrible experience.

misunderstood 10-19-2005 11:23 AM

What was a horrible experience? Mini-kiss? or the entire show?

PinkFreud 10-19-2005 11:25 AM

just mini-kiss. it almost ruined it all, but i was fine afterwards.

repcak 10-19-2005 12:05 PM

hehe... mini-kiss... i once read about them in guitar-world :D

and yes... sorry. megadEth :thumb:

Static 10-19-2005 05:23 PM

What a name

One Groovin Clown 10-19-2005 06:56 PM

When i hear the word mini-kiss, i think of midgets in costumes. Is that what they actually are? or am i jsut making up stuff?

Kage 10-19-2005 07:01 PM

Me too.

Remnants, have you heard Cult of Luna? They're somewhat similar to Isis and Pelican, but they have their own vibe. They're really great, you'd probably like them.

PinkFreud 10-19-2005 07:13 PM

that is exactly what they were. midgets in kiss costumes, faking along to kiss songs. absolutely awful.

One Groovin Clown 10-19-2005 10:52 PM

sounds absolutely stellar:rolleyes:

i was going to see APC in concert when they came to Vancouver, the show was cancelled. Man i was pretty bummed.

Huber 10-19-2005 11:28 PM
For some reason I thought you already liked Radiohead.
/late reply

I got OK Computer a few weeks back and have been trying to gain an ear for it. So far only the first track (name escapes me) and Paranoid Andriod have really caught my ear.

/end late reply

Kage 10-20-2005 09:52 AM

That's what happened to me when I first bought it as well, but after awhile of persistant listening, it just hit me. Now I love it.

repcak 10-20-2005 01:49 PM

Radiohead?
well, thats the same situation as with massive attack... i hate them (although i know they are good) ... and the reason once again lays very deep in my psyche :p

paganman7 10-20-2005 03:21 PM

What are your thoughts on Tool producing their own album? On the image of the audio reels that was posted on Adam's site a while back (which has subsequently been removed), the label on the reel cases reads Producer: Tool.

It has been confirmed that Joe Baressi is engineering their album, but I'm quite certain that Tool are producing it. Is this what's slowing them down?

Darkness 10-20-2005 04:17 PM
Is this what's slowing them down?
Could be.. but I'm pretty sure the albums done now, they're doing the artwork and stuff now.

Dude3 10-20-2005 05:52 PM

Yeah, I think Tool are done recording aswell, and are just on the small(well, maybe more in-depth for them) things like cover artwork, etc..

Kage 10-20-2005 06:04 PM

Who cares about cover art, we're all going to download the leak and then buy it off iTunes anyway.

Darkness 10-20-2005 06:06 PM

Never!!

Kage 10-20-2005 06:07 PM

Digital music is taking over.

I already burned all my CDs (no pun intended).

Darkness 10-20-2005 06:11 PM

Really? I haven't, I still buy cds on a regular bassis, and only have a few burnt ones. I wouldn't even think about downloading Tool... the artwork and themes is one of things I love about them. :p

Kage 10-20-2005 06:14 PM

*slaps forehead*

There are more than a few people in this thread who should know I'm being very sarcastic. :) I'm a big propenant of buying CDs (not for legal issues, but because I love getting the artwork, etc.)

Futuro 10-20-2005 06:15 PM

I downloaded lateralus about 2 days after the leak, And im gonna do it again. Than buy the Cd.

Im really excited about this DVD release though.

Didn't detect that.. How was I suppost to know you buy CDs? Theres few of us left..

Kage 10-20-2005 06:21 PM

Nah, I've just talked about the subject quite a few times in this thread. I was going to see if anyone picked up on it, that's all.

bwnstl 10-20-2005 06:35 PM

No more David Bottrill producing?

repcak 10-20-2005 06:39 PM

i read yesterday an interview with trent reznor and his opinion about emule, iTunes, etc. He said that first of all music i overpriced (the cds) and the other problem is that in most cases (he said especially in the case of hip-hop) you buy a single for the price of an album... in most cases you will find 1-3good songs and the rest is ****.
Thats the reason why most ppl don't buy cds anymore... and thats the case why i listen to nin, opeth, tool cause its worth the money :thumb:

BlindWriting 10-20-2005 07:06 PM

I usually buy CD's. I would so much rather just sit down, put on a good pair of headphones, and listen to an album all the way though, than waltz around listening to singles on an iPod.

But of course, when free music is thrown right in front of me (like that goddamn YSI thread) it's incredibly hard to resist.

Agreed

Dried Muffin Remnants 10-20-2005 07:15 PM

Or you could trade and get albums for free...

repcak 10-20-2005 07:18 PM

it depends heavily on the band.
i can't resist the YSI mailing-list too, but when there is a band i really like i buy the cds...

f.e.: i've got more major nin-releases than official, but i still don't have the original of TDS, B and PHM... i am collector in this case and will buy all of his major releases someday.
Didn't detect that.. How was I suppost to know you buy CDs? Theres few of us left..
What?.. Everyone I've known have started buying more and more cd's since they started downloading

I don't know anyone who prefers digital music to owning the album

Killtacular 10-20-2005 07:23 PM

I need to buy several, several cd's here nowadays. All that piracy deserves a hard copy with some pretty art.

Mr Herb 10-20-2005 09:42 PM

anyone was at that chat at toolband?
