Damnit, FlamingCouch. I forget your name. -_-
I'm in BC now. Let me know if you're ever in the Van City area. |
I've always wondered: do you Aussies and New Zealanders typically use this form of the world map?
Haha. Never seen that before but it's pretty interesting to think of the world that way. There's no true up or down in space, so probably the only reason the map goes the other way is because so much exploration began from Europe. Possibly? Fascinating. |
Interesting. Never seen that map before, but that's awesome.

If you ever run into a dude named Anthony Desfosses (I believe he's tending bar at the commodore now) ask him if he ever bought his new drums and then if he would like to shred hard. He's from northern BC and we played in a band together for quite awhile. I regret not moving to Van and starting a full-time band with him. How're you liking the city, Ben? oops extra side note - in addition to the severals of other friends I have down there another real close friend of mine is a Ben himself, a Mr. Bilodeau to be precise. If you're in line for an Acura sedan I'm told he works at one of their dealerships now, hahah. |
Also welcome to MX, unknown erection. And let me be the first to say that's a great username.

We got a great place in a pimp location that just needs to TLC on the inside, but the landlord is paying our materials for whatever we decide to do. Definitely not in line for an Acura sedan. I don't even have a job yet. :p |

Glad you're having a good time and that's really cool of the landlord to pay for materials like that. Seriously, wicked cool. What things need to be done? I rented the upright on Friday and fiddled around with it Friday evening and even more yesterday morning (I practiced my intonation and then bought tapes and marked the first 6 "frets". Last night, I had a 3-4 hour band practice with a couple of acoustic guitarists from work. My arms and fingers are absolutely killing me. You'd think that playing the bass for 8 years would have given me the finger and arm strength to make it through without problems. |
Yeah man, electric bass no harder than electric guitar, uprights are beasts.

I had to take a full day of reprieve yesterday, doing a lot of massaging and resting my arm on the heating pad. It's still extremely sore today, but I might be able to practice again today. |
Think you tried to go too hard and too long too soon by the sound of it :(.
|
Oh man, just cooked soooo much food. Feeling pretty beast haha
|
What'd you cook?
|
Like a week's worth of food haha. I can't really cook so it was all pretty simple food like rice, potatoes, veg, chicken and beef. Trying to save money and eat better by making everything in advance and not buying extra food while I'm out. I'll see how it goes :p But I've put 4 stone on since I started my job now, and it's fairly uncool D;

It's a good system man. Just have your rice or pasta or whatever in one container, some meat in another container, salad in a third, then microwave the bits that need it, sprinkle around some salad and you're set.

Tried playing again today, and fingering notes with my pinky still really hurts my forearm. Although it's improper form, I'm going to carefully start practicing with my ring finger so that I can get our songs down and work on my intonation. I'll wait until I buy an upright (because now I'm addicted) and get lessons before I try playing for that long again.
It's a good system man. That's something I should really do too. We've got all the materials. Maybe I'll cook stuff up tomorrow. |
Take painkillers. All the jazz greats were rampant drug addicts anyway.
|
|
Yeah, it just takes a bit of prep time. It cost me like £40 for a week's food. I eat out and buy snacks and stuff quite a lot, so that's a massive saving for me tbh.

I took two ibuprofen, and it only helped a little bit. I should get some percocet or vicodin for tonight's practice. |
Expensive alcohol will cure what ails you.

God knows I've got plenty of that in my house. Speaking of alcohol, I managed to save 4 of the 5 gallons of beer. It's not as chocolatey as I was hoping for, unfortunately, but I have more supplies on order and I've figured out a better way to modify the recipe and hopefully achieve something closer to what I want. It'll still be a decent stout, though. |
I drank too much gin last night, and now I hurt beyond words.

How do you prefer to drink it? With tonic? |
Yeah, I only ever drink it with tonic. My buddy is visiting from Calgary and brought me a bottle of Tanq. 10, which is a bit more potent than I'm used to, so it put me under the table pretty quick. And by pretty quick, I mean 2/3 of the bottle later.
|
Your friend has very good taste in gin.
|
He just bought it because he knows I like high quality gin, he actually hates the stuff.
But, yeah, I do have good taste in gin. Hendricks is my main gin when I am feel like spending the money, but I do like the Tanq 10 from time to time. It just tastes completely different. |

Or something) and Tanq always comes out on top usually. Bombay isn't bad though. You're right about tonic, I've tried so many different things with it. Soda water with a twist of lime is quite good (it comes premade by Swcheppes) but some good tonic water is aaallllways better. I bought a Les Paul Studio. White alpine with gold hardware. This thing is the secks. Funny thing though, I prefer my cheap telecaster I got for like $200 for clean tones. The strings aren't even that old both of them so it's a fair contest. For some reason though I just love the neck pickup on a tele for anything remotely clean. So much so I know want a USA Tele or G&L Telecaster. |
I'm tempted to get a John Mayer signature strat, not the custom shop one just the factory one. I have two Fender basses I want to buy though as well and an Ibanez 5 string wouldn't go amiss. Two Aguilar cabs coming my way soon too so I'm not sure how I'm going to prioritise.

So combine added string tension with a single coil bridge pickup (as opposed to a parallel humbucker), and you're going to get a much brighter, open tone. The LP is good for darker sounds, which is why many rhythm guitarists tend to use it, but I've never cared for the LP for lead work. |
