You value knowledge, logic, and deceit. You love to pursue wisdom but also to manipulate and deceive. At your best, you are brilliant and progressive. At your worst, you are treacherous and cold. Your symbol is a water droplet. Your enemies are green and red.

He knew for awhile that this season was the end of his run and he went out with class if you listened to his final press conference. But, he did a lot of great things for the university - there was never a scandal like the basketball team, or there were never any reports of players assaulting strippers (sup, Detroit Lions defensive tackles?), or anything. And you look at the players, and their majors aren't anything to joke about - biomedical science, kinesiology, education. You look at the typical tOSU player major - communications. Hahaha.

And I don't really see what Les Miles has to do with anything. His team lost today in multiple-OTs at home. He should worry about that before 'coming home.'

He has made Les Miles' comin to Michigan way harder on the school than it had to be. They are now under pressure to replace him now, when they obviously want Miles but can't go after him until after the bowl games.

Considering the fact that he has a reason to have a personal agenda against Miles, I dislike that.

But I totally agree, he was great for Michigan while he was there. I think he is getting too much crap for the past few years.

Jom 11-23-2007 10:25 PM

Michigan's not under any pressure, unless you were talking about LSU feeling pressure. I wouldn't know, I don't read the Louisiana newspapers. The personal vendetta thing is overstated, though, because it was over the coach's poll, but Miles was singled out because of his allegiance to the conference (and, really, it would be kind of silly to have two old-school teams play each other a second time for the national title when the first game was pretty much a rout). And Miles will have to pay $1.25 mil to walk away. Sure, Michigan will help him out with paying that, but I don't really follow why people are acting like he's a shoo-in. It's not going to happen as easy as people are painting it.

Even outside of coaching, he is a great man. All of his pro-bono charity work reached the millions, with $550,000 from his own foundation. The car washes, the Mott Children's Hospital, etc. are all really big things, and he wasn't just a coach or just an educator, which is why any blemish he may have from Tressel or tOSU or whatever cannot possibly trump his humanitarian endeavors.

I do have to laugh, though, that he kept a dictionary outside his office and before players walked in they had to learn a new word before he'd speak to them. While a nice gesture, I can imagine that even Michigan players had a hard time pronouncing any word that a) wasn't in their everyday vocabulary or b) a football term.

Iluvatar 11-23-2007 10:28 PM

Boosters could take care of that 1.25 million easy.

Nah college slays too.

Jom 11-23-2007 10:46 PM

There's a lot less parity in the NFL than in college, I think. Wow, New England and Indianapolis are the class of the AFC and the NFC still blows. What else is new? Haha.

We just need to get rid of the BCS. I don't really care how much money is invested in these bowl games - just cut down the season by a game or two, take the top eight teams, and let the rest of the teams go bowl-ing.

Every other sport, including D2 and D3 football, have a playoff system. Why can't D1 figure it out (and just leave it to a computer)?

Money money money money money money money mo-ney

Money

But yeah, I completely agree with you. Even making like the Rose Bowl the final game, the Orange bowl the semi-final, and the Sugar and Fiesta being the quarters, keeping some of the money in it.

ZapatoDiablo 11-23-2007 11:35 PM

The "at large" bowl bids just kill everything.

pate 11-23-2007 11:42 PM

That's what makes it better, so (potentially) non-big conference teams can be in the big bowls.

ZapatoDiablo 11-23-2007 11:44 PM

Yeah I guess so. I don't remember what Notre Dame was ranked last year, but you know that everytime a school like that has a chance of going to a big bowl they're gonna get picked, then they end up playing teams like LSU and getting killed.
