Carlos Santana 04-25-2005 04:21 PM
what type of metal would metallica be classified as?
i think Thrash or Speed metal

exup 04-25-2005 04:26 PM

Kill em all : trashy speedmetal
Ride the lightning, masters of puppets, and justice for all : speed metal
Black album : metal
Load : metal/rock
the Thin Lizzy version is great IMO, I also really like The boys are back in town.

I like Metallica's version of turn the page, but I haven't heard the original. and could any of you upload the Metallica version of Sabbra Cadabra? if not, I'll post it in the YSI thread.

what type of metal would metallica be classified as?
I'm not sure because allthose bands that play light-not headbanging-all about the girls-music (example van halen) are some times classified as metal so metallica might be heavy metal or thrash.

flamesofbodom 04-25-2005 05:49 PM

Plain ol' heavy metal...with a hint of thrash/speed

Sandtrap 04-25-2005 05:53 PM

oh alright thanks...i get confused because soem really unmetal bands are called metal, and I know there not death metal. alright thanks agian!

Huber 04-25-2005 06:04 PM

Kill Em' All and Ride The Lightning were Thrash albums, with a dash of straight up metal influence. The next 3 albums were just Metal, and then after that they delved into adding some alternative sounds to their Metal.

flamesofbodom 04-25-2005 06:05 PM

that works too

I dont know how you can say Master of puppets, battery, disposable heroes, and damage inc arent thrash.

lilmetallica 04-25-2005 07:23 PM

They dont really fit in in any one group.
they're kinda here and there on every album.

Huber 04-25-2005 07:25 PM
I dont know how you can say Master of puppets, battery, disposable heroes, and damage inc arent thrash.
They are, but they have more obvious Metal influences then straight up thrash.

Endless Obsession 04-25-2005 07:29 PM

They arent "straight up thrash" but its more thrash then most things.

Lionheart1827 04-25-2005 07:29 PM

At the time back in the 80s, they can also be considered slightly progressive, not to insane amounts obviously, but their music was unlike most bands.

Even Mike Portnoy believes this, too. :thumb:

Deth 04-25-2005 07:30 PM

They were definitly progressive on AJFA that's for sure.

/And Justice For All whore

Oh yeah, Frayed Ends of Sanity is one wicked song. Tons of little weird harmonies and little quick riffs here and there. :thumb: I love that song.

My fav album is RTL.

Joe 04-25-2005 07:44 PM

hey everyone should check out my post about guitar gods

Huber 04-25-2005 07:46 PM

I'm bored enough to read something I probably wont understand...

Sandtrap 04-25-2005 07:59 PM

I think that kEA must have made a big boom at the time it was released!

FlyingPaul_83 04-25-2005 09:32 PM
I think that kEA must have made a big boom at the time it was released!
I don't think it did, because the mainstream stuff was all that glam metal stuff and metallica was pretty much an unknown band. It probably didn't sell too well at the beginning, but then started getting momonetum, and started to sell some copies, which lead to their second album, which probably did much better because they were more known.

Huber 04-25-2005 09:37 PM

In the 80s, pop was manufactured because people didn't want people listening to metal. Thrash wasn't known until later in the 80s.

Huber 04-25-2005 09:40 PM

Yesterday I was trying to say this about the people bashing Kirk and James in the guitar polls when gocaps was defending them, but I couldn't get it out right. This guy said it just right.
I think what it is, it's becoming popular to contradict anything that remotely starts to be the majority opinion of certain people.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that everyone wants to be the one going against the grain. It ends up that everyone is going against the grain.
Award winning post IMO

Lets be honest, it does kinda suck when compared with stuff like Puppets or KEA. Still, I don't hate it and if you say I'm not a true fan, you're just being stupid.
