Oh well, at least I have Bonnaroo |

Oh well, at least I have Bonnaroo
Tell me about it, the South gets absolutely pwned when it comes to big acts, especially North Carolina. At least we usually have ABB and its "family bands" like Gov't Mule, both of which I'm banking on seeing this summer :) |
He came to NY. But I missed out on tix. Stupid pigsonthewing got them though:angry:
I heard about Bowie but not Mason. Pretty cool. I wish I was going to Bonaroo. Has anyone else heard the songs off the Zabriskie Point soundtrack? They're pretty awesome. And I got a sweet live bootleg from '69 yesterday. It's really good and trippy. |

Oh well, at least I have Bonnaroo
He didin't even tour the UK! apart from a few dates in London.... But hey! |
Yeah, Leeds has really gotten the shaft historically when it comes to concerts.
Actually, I'm gonna see if I can buy some ABB tickets now before they get sold out, and possibly Gov't Mule too. That way when mis padres say I can't go, I can say "Oh, then what am I supposed to do with these three tickets? Oh well, I'll go shred them and flush them down the shitter..." |
Pink Floyd is one of the only bands I listen to outside of the the realm of metal. They are amazing. I own most of their albums besides a few of their first albums with Syd Barrett. I have a few on vinyl too. :D
Dark Side Of The Moon is my favorite album. |
I love the solo in Time, but I don't think it's underrated. The solo in Any Colour You Like, now that's an underrated masterpiece.
Amen to that brother ... also, when I first heard that song I always wondered what it would be like to hear it tripped out ... Another solo I really like that isn't mentioned much is the one from Fat Old Sun ... |
I love the solo in Time, but I don't think it's underrated. The solo in Any Colour You Like, now that's an underrated masterpiece.
yes yes yes!!! Does anybodyhave a live recording of dark side of the moon, of decent quality, I could have? The older the better... Thanks if anybody has one. |
I only have bits and pieces of the songs. I could probably piece together most of the album with the different bootlegs, but I don't have any live versions of the entire album, sorry.
|
yes yes yes!!!

Thanks if anybody has one.
I had one from maybe a year or two before the album came out. On the Run was more like a funky jam session, The Great Gig in the Sky didn't really have much going on, Money was slower, Us and Them only had about one verse and one chorus. That's the differences I can remember right now. I don't know where it is now, though. |

that's the one i'm thinking of, now i think about it. I must've heard it somewhere. /best check i don't have it somewhere |
I have a bootleg from 1972 thats just great. Well I have many live bootlegs of Darkside of the Moon but that one is my favorite. The bass sounds really muddy but thats all thats wrong with it. They jam on that album live I can't see how the studio version of it was ever even close to being as good as the live version of it. Unfortunetly when I see Roger in September I have a feeling that the live shows won't be as good.
Yeah, he played what...3 dates at the Albert Hall? The prices were ridiculous too. I looked at going, but I simply couldn't afford the tickets, which got snapped up scarily fast anyway. :( He had Richard Wright on keyboards, Bowie appeared on the second last night, and Nick Mason on the final one near the end, meaning that if you were lucky enough to be there you got the band that called themselves Pink Floyd for the band's last two albums, albeit briefly. Apparently Crosby and Nash appeared on backing vocals too, so they really did have quite the lineup going.
Wow, that's not at all like what I thought it would be. That Line up is awesome. I have a Setlist somewhere. Looks like he did most of the songs from Pink Floyd 's 70's era, too. |
That was the bootleg I sent out a while back. That included the beginning of SOYCD too, as they had written that song for what was to become DSotM (that wasn't even the name of the album when they started performing it, I believe it was called A Piece For Assorted Lunatics or something.) It wasn't broken up into songs when I sent it out, so if that's the one then you probably got it from me :p It's on my old computer, but I could send it out again if anyone really wanted me to :)
I keep worrying about bands I want to see selling out of tickets, but then I forget to get them or get sidetracked, like when I went to the ABB site the other day and saw the message about Vince Welnick. I'm about to check and see if CNSY come near here and if they've sold out. Even though I've heard like none of their stuff, I'm sure they'll be great, so yeah. |

Can you send that to me..? brinn2@tcnj.edu |
Just bought 3 Pink Floyd albums: Division Bell, Final Cut, Back Against the Wall. I haven't had much time to listen to them yet, due to semester exams coming up, but I'll have a listen soon and let you know what I think
|
Are those your first Floyd albums? Those would definitely not be my first choices for first Floyd albums. If I were you and they were still unopened, I'd return them and get Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. Other good albums would be Meddle, Obscured By Clouds, The Wall, and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. The Division Bell is supposed to be good, but it's probably not the best album to start listening to Floyd with, as it has a much different sound due to being recorded in the 90's and with different songwriting direction. The Final Cut is supposed to be one of their few sub-par efforts and also sounds very little like most Floyd due to the situation it was recorded in (Water's crazy ego attack.) Back Against The Wall is actually a cover of The Wall by other artists, and I'd definitely 100% advise listening to The Wall first. That's just my suggestion, though i think most would back me up on starting out with different albums. The ones I listed are masterpieces by no small measure :)
|
I actually really like The Final Cut. Mostly because it's just that, very different.
|
Had a quick listen to The Final cut, and I really enjoyed it. I also have Momentary Lapse Of Reason, I got that a while ago. Thing is, I've heard alot of the songs from the albums mentioned by BigTrav415, so I thought, I'd get some slightly more obscure ones, to get an idea of their other stuff. I'll definitely get Piper next, because I like that one (mate has it). Or Animals. And I've heard The Wall countless times so it's not a huge priority to get for me. Also, I have quite a few Floyd song on my computer, but I prefer to buy them :D
|
Okay, I misunderstood you, I thought those albums were your first listen to the Floyd :) Yes, buying full albums > downloading random songs off Morpheus or w/e. I admittedly haven't heard The Final Cut or Division Bell yet, I haven't touched anything post-Wall yet, as I've focused my spending money on diversifying my music collection and haven't bought any Floyd in forever, but when I started out I bought nothing but Floyd. Definitely get Meddle though, it's a very underrated album. There is perhaps one weak track on it (Seamus), which I actually kind of like because it's a pretty good attempt at blues for the Floyd, and the rest of the songs are definitely 5/5. If nothing else, get it for the song Echoes :D But One Of These Days, A Pillow Of Winds, Fearless, and San Tropez are all great too. If you listen to the radio you've heard everything off Wish You Were Here except SOYCD, which is a 9-part epic song split into two songs at the beginning and end, but buying WYWH is worth it if only for that.
P.S. If you see Obscured By Clouds, but it right then. Chances are you'll never see it in stores because it's very underrated and underbought, so if you see a store that has it, get it right then :) |
I was rather amazed when the Circuit City by me had Obscured by Clouds. I got it as soon as I saw it, because I knew it was a rare oppurtunity. :) |
I personally thought The Final Cut was amazing. It wasn't Pink Floyd, definantly no DSoTM, but it was a good album. It isn't very Pink Floyd-like.. But it's a good listen. Lyrically.. it could be their best work IMO. I really like the lyrics for Two Suns In The Sunset.
|
I see Obscured By Clouds all the time. Actually, my old Sam Goody had a ridiculous Floyd collection. It's odd because the store completely blows, but they had everything Floyd ever released including OBC, Ummagumma, More... all the obscure ones and of course the popular ones too. I never actually bothered to buy any of them from there because it's ridiculously overpriced, but I was impressed with the Floyd selection.
|
Ummagumma a really underrated album, because it's pretty good. All I have is the studio disc, and I think I might go to Best Buy sometime and buy it.
|
The Final Cut is very rock'n'roll like, I think.
Also, Trav, could you send that bootleg to me, please? :) HeavyRiva at gmail.com |
I really need to pick up The Final Cut. I've heard more neutrality on it than anything, but after hearing some good things about it now, I might check it out.
Riva, somehow imagining someone with a thick Australian accent saying "The Final Cut is very rock'n'roll like, I think" is very humorous to me :p I'll send out that bootleg soon. |
As long as it is a real Aussie accent and not the quasi-british ones that Yankee actors put on, then I'm fine with that.
|
Can I ask you guys if it's worth getting any of Syd Barrett's solo stuff, I've been looking on Sputnik and the albums seem to be pretty poor, but a lot of you guys seems to own some of his stuff, so should I get any or not?
|
I heard The Madcap Laughs is a pretty solid album, and I think I'll pick it up pretty soon. But people say that the album Barret is not very good, and I was wondering if I should bother trying it out.
|
I like The Final Cut a lot.
|

I like them, but they aren't the same as his work with Pink Floyd, and that's why I think that most people degrade them. |
Yer, 'The Madcap Laughs' is supposed to be OK, anyone know if 'Opel' is any good?
|
Notice The Final Cut is getting a getting a good rap here. And so it should. Terribly underrated I think. It's become my favourite of late. I can't stop listening to it!
|
I just dislike the fact that Roger kicked Rick out for it.
|
I just dislike the fact that Roger kicked Rick out for it.
I thought that was for The Wall sessions and tour  Yeah, Rick went on vacation in Greece while they were working on The Wall and Roger kicked him out of the band for it. For one reason or another (Dave and Nick probably talked him into it) Roger let him come back on as a session musician for the tour. He was the only member to actually make money on the tour, the other three spent a crapload of their own money on the tour but he got paid to be on it :D But yeah, Roger didn't actually let him come back to the band for The Final Cut unfortunately. According to something I read though, Rick hit a creativity block around that time or something, so maybe that's part of the reason. Rog is still a dick though  |
According to something I read though, Rick hit a creativity block around that time
That's the reason they gave.. He wanted to do his own thing, but I doubt that being true. It's a shame they never played The Final Cut live.. I would LOVE to see them all get together and tour it... But that's asking for too much. |
Rick was still an official member of the band while they recorded The Wall. But he was in a creative slump as Trav pointed out, and so Roger kicked him out and then proceeded to rehire him as a session musician for the tour. He wasn't with them for the Final Cut though.
And I do think Roger was a complete dick to Rick and the other members, but there is no denying that Rick was indeed in a creative slump. His playing on The Wall is vastly inferior, less noticeable, and less creative on The Wall than it was on other albums. Roger being a crazy egomaniac and putting an insane amount of pressure on him and the rest of the band may have led to the creative slump though. |
Anyone here checked out Water's solo work? Now that I've got all of Dave's I kind of want to look into his. And lately I've had sort of a new found appreciation for his talents as a lyricist.
|
i found a site that interviewed Roger and David about the breakup and about Rick
they said that Rick was starting to go Syd on them you know the drugs and craziness |
In regards to Barrett's solo work, I've heard some songs off of Madcap Laughs and it seems to have some decent material on it. I've yet to buy it though. However I do have Syd's self titled album and I have to say, with the exception of a few tracks, it's definitely a sub-par effort.
