Why does everyone think it'll be better with Dave. Bostaph did some great drumming on the albums he was on, the songwriting just sucked.

I just prefer Dave over Bostaph. And I'm pretty sure that even with Dave back the song writting isn't going to be much better especially when Kerry says that the album is going to be like an extension of God Hates Us All.
I think Slayer needs to listen to some of their old stuff for inspiration.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-18-2006 09:18 PM

Nah, they just need to stop listening to Slipknot and start listening to DRI and Judas Priest again.

Bazarov 01-18-2006 09:19 PM
Nah, they just need to stop listening to Slipknot.
Yes, that is very true. As well as Hatebreed and Killswitch. I remember reading an interview with Tom promoting the Jaegermeister Tour, and he was asked what are some of the new bands he was liking, and he said that he thought Hatebreed and Killswitch Engage were very talented bands. :/

BLS_Infernus 01-18-2006 09:32 PM

ewww....if they need to listen to a new band I would recommend Mastodon (which Slayer has toured with).

I think Slayer is trying to hard to modernize there sound to much...if they just try to be thereselves and make another great album like Reign in Blood, South of Heaven or Season in the Abyss I think they would be alright

I saw Mastodon AND Killswitch with Slayer. But yeah AR is right, they need to stop listening to mediocre new bands and go back to listening 80's hardcore and speed metal.

heavy metal kid 01-18-2006 09:50 PM

they can listen all the stuff they want, as long they make kick *** records i'm happy.

/topic killer comment.

BLS_Infernus 01-18-2006 10:32 PM

*cries* the Slayer thread was pretty much dead and you try to kill it again before it got going.

lets face it...all Slayer fans generally like Dave as the drummer.

I remember the when this thread was on the front page everyday. The good ol' days.

Jackson_Guitarist 01-18-2006 11:56 PM

http://slayerized.com/pictures/band/band001.jpg

FatalEnergy 01-19-2006 12:04 AM

Tom Araya - Bass/vocals, Jeff Hanneman - Lead Guitar, Dave Lombardo - Drums, Kerry King - Lead Guitar

That's from the South of Heaven sleeve, circa 1988

Alright, thanks alot.:)

Jackson_Guitarist 01-19-2006 12:15 AM

BTW i have to find a black and white picture to draw for my art class. Do you think I should draw that one or would you recomend another one even if it's not slayer.

Bazarov 01-19-2006 12:48 AM

That was a pretty nice picture, I guess.

BLS_Infernus 01-19-2006 03:44 PM

are you sure that isn't Tom then Dave then Jeff then Kerry. Dave has black hair and Jeff has blond

Bazarov 01-19-2006 03:47 PM

Yeah that picture does go Tom, Dave, Jeff, Kerry.

BLS_Infernus 01-19-2006 05:54 PM

/bump

I so wish this thread would pick up speed

so word from the ESP site is the LTD JH-600 for 2006 will be alder bodied but no Kahler trem. The ESP version will be like the 2005 model but with a Kahler 2315 trem (I own a 2004 version w/ Kahler)

if you draw it definately post it on here. well if its good lol.

my friend thinks mike portnoy is better than lombardo....i beg to differ. what do you guys think?

Bazarov 01-25-2006 10:50 PM

I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan. I won't say they aren't crap musicians, because obviously they aren't. Dave's drumming is more interesting to me. And I haven't really listened to enough Dream Theater to base a proper opinion. So with that said, I think Dave is better.

To BLS I would love to get that guitar, but I lack the dough.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-25-2006 10:53 PM

I think Dave is probably faster than Portnoy.

ThrashMaster27 01-25-2006 10:56 PM

Portney is probably more creative than Dave. He knows his way around a drumkit, that's for sure.

Would be interesting to see them in a drum battle.

He might be right in almost all the drummings aspects.

But yeah, at least Lombardo is faster.

Kaiwaz 01-26-2006 03:37 AM

Lombardo has rythm. I seriously don't see what you guys see in Portnoy. In this video, he is just randomly hitting everything on his set, not even remotely subject to a certain ''flow''. I have literally seen 12 year olds drum better.

http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/mikeportnoysolomov.mov

nowitzki 01-26-2006 06:31 AM

I'm sorry but Portnoy is clearly better than Lombardo. Theres no way Dave could pull of something like the Dance of Eternity. Dave probably has more speed, but thats about it. Plus he can be a little sloppy live.
I agree that drum solo isn't great, but don't judge Portnoy on just that.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-26-2006 06:33 AM

Lombardo's work with Fantomas is better than his stuff in Slayer, though.

you clearly don't understand a lot about drumming if you think Dave is nothing but speed.

heavy metal kid 01-26-2006 02:54 PM

He didn't say that, he just said that he was faster than Portnoy.

BLS_Infernus 01-26-2006 02:57 PM
He didn't say that, he just said that he was faster than Portnoy.
I guess I read it wrong but "Dave probably has more speed, but thats about it" kind of made be think that.

I'm wondering if Jeff wrote most of it or if Kerry went half an half with him. I find that Jeff is probabley Slayer's back bone on the writing. I also wondering with there solos with work right because some of there solos don't belong with the tone, i.e. Stain of Mind.

heavy metal kid 01-26-2006 03:05 PM

He was still refering to the comparison between Portnoy and Lombardo, meaning Lombardo was only better than Portnoy in the speed aspect and nothing more.

BLS_Infernus 01-26-2006 03:07 PM
He was still refering to the comparison between Portnoy and Lombardo, meaning Lombardo was only better than Portnoy in the speed aspect and nothing more.
yeah I got that after I read it again.

I hope Slayer tours with Exodus or Megadeth again after the album is released. That would kick major ***

heavy metal kid 01-26-2006 03:16 PM

Isn't Kerry King still mad at Dave, well i do hope the 4 Big of Thrash tour together someday.

BLS_Infernus 01-26-2006 03:21 PM

I don't know but he was praising him upon his return to the made so I guess everything is fine.

Exodus on tour with Slayer would be amazing since there style is a bit close, different from one another, but close. Megadeth on top of that would be even great and the only other band that I could see going into that mold would either be Metallica or Anthrax. Either one of Metallica or Anthrax would be kick *** as well.

Bazarov 01-26-2006 03:41 PM

What kind of music is Fantomas?

And yes, a tour with any of those bands would be great.

Joey_ 01-26-2006 03:55 PM

Anyone know when the new Slayer album is due out?

heavy metal kid 01-26-2006 03:57 PM
What kind of music is Fantomas?
It's Avant Garde Metal, alternative and many times is just noise.

Bazarov 01-26-2006 10:22 PM

I'll search around and check them out.

playguitar 01-27-2006 12:34 AM

The christian club who puts on the battle of the bands at school won't let us play the anti-christ because of the lyrics so I think we're playing crionics instead, any ideas to help be able to play the anti-christ?

Blank 01-27-2006 12:38 AM

Dude use your brain. It's run by church goers and the song is called anti christ... >.>
Just play something else :thumb:

Ah now then.I ****ing love slayer.A great solid band all around.
Great drummer, solid bassist, amazing guitarist and bad *** singer.
I can't wait to see them live one day \m/

.:Thrashman:. 01-27-2006 01:21 AM
