I don't see why so many people bash Dominicci, he sings similar to LaBrie (listening to Metropolis live from "When Dream and Day Reunite: Live")

Woah, that's a real subject-changer! :amaze:

GenuineImitation 07-01-2005 05:53 PM

The Glass Prison
Lie
Endless Sacrifice
As I Am
Pull Me Under
Home
Change of Seasons
This Dying Soul
The Root of All Evil
Under a Glass Moon
Take the time
Trail of Tears

Lord Abortion 07-01-2005 06:05 PM

right, octavarium should appear through the lovely folks at cheapcds tomorrow so impressions will be posted then...

best of DT ohhh, say 20 songs

space dye vest
pull me under
another day
take the time
surrounded
metropolis pt.1
under a glass moon
wait for sleep
learning to live
endless sacrifice
in the name of god
as I am
this dying soul
through my words
the spirit carries on
through her eyes
a change of seasons
Lie
beyond this life
one last time

bearing in mind I don't have six degrees, FII or octavarium

The only song where his vocals are any good is "The Afterlife", which I think he did better than LaBrie could have. Other than that, he's not a great singer. Just not that adaptable. Just try and imagine him doing "Learning to Live" or "The Glass Prison" or "Lines in the Sand". He'd ruin those songs.

Ok,I have looked through a fair few pages of this thread, but im not lloking at all of them. So if this has been asked before i'm sorry.
Anyways, why the hell wont DT come to Australia? They would easily get good ticket sales. Maybe they just dont like our accents, lol. Is there any known reason why they havent come yet?

Chu 07-02-2005 02:24 AM

I would love DT to come to Australia! :)
I would fly to Perth just to see them, and I live in Canberra, so that's quite a flight :p

My favourite DT album is SDOIT, but Images & Words is awesome too.

So have DT never been to Australia? If this is so my chances of seeing them are not too high (I live in New Zealand).

horseypie 07-02-2005 04:45 AM

But I think (hope) Gigantour is coming to Australia?
I think I have heard people talking about it...

He's not that bad, just doesn't come close to LaBrie. He seems to remind me of a Power Metal singer.

I personally think WDADU is a good album with some great tracks on there, although whenever they have been done live with LaBrie on vocals they are much better.

Yeh exactly. LaBrie is just more mature of a singer. His voice is more adaptable. He's better, more concentrated. Dominici was always shaky on vocals.

...this has absolutely nothing (directly) to do with Dream Theater, but.....

Is it just me, or is there some strange link between Prog and Final Fantasy?!?! In my experience, almost every Prog fan I know likes FF.

Just curious. I've noticed a couple of avatars on this thread related to the games..... anyone here a FF fan?

i think i can say that final fantasy music helped me get into Dream Theater. Nobuo Uematsu is a great composer.

check out The Black Mages - a band playing ff music in a more rock fashion. there's some great keyboard and guitar work

check out this track by them: Dancing Mad

This has probably been discussed before, but, the best songs in Portnoy's song trilogy are, from favorite to least:
The Glass Prison > This Dying Soul > The Root Of All Evil.

Too bad they get progressively less good, but what's really interesting is listening to all three of them in a row. Pretty mind blowing.

I think the Glass Prison is a little too drawn out.

The Root of All Evil > The Glass Prison > This Dying Soul

red barchetta 07-03-2005 05:39 AM

The Root Of all Evil - Glass Prison - This Dying Soul

during glass prison and dying soul, they seem to wander off somewhere else and dont concentrate enough on the structure.

Yeah, im not sure whats happening with the whole Gigantour thing. I have heard, however, that if it does come to Aus the line up will be alot different. I just hope they would keep DT on it.
completely unrelated.........but can i ask what the connection is between metropolis pt.1 ...and pt.2
There are a few wee links. Take a look at the lyrics for both. I've written out a Microsoft Word file with all of them.

The first obvious one is names. Part 1 is called "The Miracle And The Sleeper". These are two of the main characters talked about in Part 2.

I'll try and upload the lyrics to YouSendIt for ya. Take a look; you'll understand all the links if you read through this thoroughly.

Yes, it is mind blowing to listen to them in a row, but I have to disagree that they are getting "less good". I enjoy all three songs and I do not think any is worse than the other.

Otherside 07-03-2005 09:46 AM

The Glass Prison was just mind blowing. I almost have a type of synthesia with that song, it's just great. The other two... not so much..

Mr Benners 07-03-2005 10:21 AM

Anyone managed to link them all together...into like one big AA super track? I can see how it would fit - The ending notes of TGP are the starting notes of TDS, and the end of TDS can easily be made to fit with TROAE in many ways (ie straight into the main riff of TROAE or leaving the build up....whichever). I would try, but I'm pretty crappy at stitching tracks together, so if anyone with talent could then maybe they would upload it?

MAthiAS 07-03-2005 11:32 AM
I just hope they would keep DT on it.
DT are leaving for the last few dates anyway, so I doubt Australia would get them.

Uhh... make a playlist?

Mr Benners 07-03-2005 12:15 PM

Not like that, because at the end of TGP you have the noise of breaking glass after then ending notes and theres the big build up at the start of TROAE. I was just thinking of stitching them all together.

Meh, leave it.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 12:31 PM

I think TGP was the best song in that series. It just has everything DT is well known for, and they do a superb job on it, on all fronts.
