Does anyone have any books on Pink Floyd? I got Echoes for Christmas and its pretty good. It has a write up on every single song, which was pretty cool. And it had really cool pictures.

Shazzam 01-30-2005 04:37 PM

Ya, I might order Echoes tonight.

BludgeonySteve 01-30-2005 05:33 PM

I don't mean to sound like an elitist Floyd fan but, Echoes is not for real fans. Pink Floyd's brilliance was partly in their entire albums and without the albums, especially the concept ones, it's just not the same. Echoes is just for people who want to be able to say that they're a Pink Floyd fan when they really don't listen to very much of them.

/end rant.

Actually, the book has been out for a while, and apparently it has some very detailed, rare photo's in it that surely would interest any Floyd fan. And any fan would want to read up on the bands extroardinary history.

That would would not sterotype someone as a poser.

*doesn't run*
Piper At The Gates of Dawn: Should I buy or should I ignore?
Not one of my personal favorites...

There's alot of other albums that are more worthy of purchasing first, unless you are especially fond of the Syd era.

I posted in Classic Rock but I'll post again
One of Floyd's best albums, I think you should definitly get it.

Shazzam 01-30-2005 06:47 PM

It's all opinion man, just listen to it yourself and decide if it's worth the money.

Johnny B. Good 01-30-2005 06:49 PM

Just make sure you have DSOTM before any other Floyd album

Stealthy Fart 01-30-2005 07:12 PM

the wall is a definite first album.

Yeah your really wrong little buddy.

Purple Floyd 01-30-2005 07:19 PM

What's the best live album?

Kingofdudes 01-30-2005 07:22 PM
What's the best live album?
I would go with PULSE
the wall is a definite first album.
I really dont think it is. It tends to confuse people just getting into Pink Floyd

pigonthewing82 01-30-2005 07:26 PM
What's the best live album?
the wall live, its the only live album that features the classic line up (waters, gilmour, wright and mason), well exept ummagumma, its a great live album, but not for casual fans

BludgeonySteve 01-30-2005 07:29 PM
Yeah your really wrong little buddy.
And you must be a retard because I was joking. Not one word in that post was the least bit serious.

Shazzam 01-30-2005 07:31 PM

The CN solo in PULSE is like sex.

magicbus 01-30-2005 09:24 PM
What's the best live album?
I say Ummagumma, and I stand by it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-30-2005 09:34 PM
I say Ummagumma, and I stand by it.
When was it released, and what songs are on it? It's the live album with a bunch of the longer songs, correct?
When was it released, and what songs are on it? It's the live album with a bunch of the longer songs, correct?
Released in 1969 I believe. It is a double album with one live and one studio album. The live album has Astronomy Domine, Careful With That Axe Eugene, Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun, and Saucerful of Sercrets. The studio album is new material.

magicbus 01-30-2005 09:47 PM

Yea. 1969 or 1970 I wanna say. The live disc has Astronomy Domine, Careful With That Ax, Eugene, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and A Saucerful of Secrets. I absolutely love it.

edit: Yar! Ye beat me!

shawnson 01-30-2005 09:51 PM

i thought the wall: live was pretty good, cuz it had CN. i love that song, and the solo is so cool live. i should listen to ummagumma one day, my friend has it.

Why so you could hear him freak out on stage?

He was rarely clear minded when they played live.

lunch998 01-30-2005 10:00 PM
Why so you could hear him freak out on stage?

It has become a fad to like Syd Barrett and admire him as a God.
Why so you could hear him freak out on stage?

so? do u honestly think hendrix was on any less drugs when he preformed, i know toward the end he lost it, but i have a bootleg of him live with pink floyd, and it was brillent

Kingofdudes 01-30-2005 10:14 PM
so? do u honestly think hendrix was on any less drugs when he preformed, i know toward the end he lost it, but i have a bootleg of him live with pink floyd, and it was brillent
What does hendrix and him doing drugs have to do with it? Most of the the time Syd would go onstage and either stare into space, or play the wrongs songs. The bootleg must have been very early in PF's touring days.

Kingofdudes 01-30-2005 10:23 PM

Another thing. Why are Syd fans so freaking vague about his greatness? Why was he so great live?

pigonthewing82 01-30-2005 10:36 PM
Another thing. Why are Syd fans so freaking vague about his greatness? Why was he so great live?
i could rant and rave for many posts about this, but its obvious you wont agree with me in the end, the only advise i can give to see things the way i do is to buy the syd barett dvd. and another thing, he was great live because takes songs like astronomy domine that last for 4 minutes and add antother 3 or 4, and he did things like use a zippo lighter on his guitar strings (thats how dave made those sounds on a saucerful of secrets on ummagumma)

Kingofdudes 01-30-2005 10:39 PM

Ok.... well PF extened the length of their songs live all the time, even without Syd. When you say zippo lighter do you mean a slide? If so plenty of people use them, and Dave was using them since before PF.

In response to the bold point, if you brought up something valid then perhaps I would back off.

It's not like Syd pioneered the idea of improv.

pigonthewing82 01-30-2005 10:54 PM

oh for god sake all i did was say i wished that i could have heard syd on ummaguma look this is getting pointless syd did different things for pink floyd then gilmour did, and gilmour did different things for pink floyd then syd did, and thats all there is too it, and this is just a classic example of gilmour fans not seeing things from the point of veiw of syd fans (not saying your view is wrong)

ANYWAY moving on

i always wondered when people said that pink floyd had a good light show, were they talking about things like the animation you see in the wall or what

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-30-2005 11:09 PM

Sure, I do prefer Gilmour, but I really appreciate Syd's work. As for the argument, you'll become accustomed to the amazing number of disputes around MX, and a lot in this thread as well. :thumb: rep ++

Why come to a forum if you are just gonna back out of discussions?

I think you miss the point of a foum.

the only reason i backed out is because im sick of people feuding over the flaws of the members of pink floyd. they were all brillient in their own way. i just ended it because the conversation was going no where and we were basically dominating the fourm, when people could have been talking about more improtent things
