/after listening to the songs shadow stalker was kind enough to re-upload
Cryonic Temple's sound is quite typical 80s but yet sweet and touching in an exciting and glorious old school way. \m/Thank you guys for bringing them here\m/ |
he didn't turn up to practices...we need two for PM
we have but one, and he..well...yeah
I'm not starting with the band I'm gonna be in until I get back to uni, but yes...we are also lacking a guitarist. And from what it looks like so far, I'm probably gonna end up doing both the bass and keys. The songs by cryonic temple aren't bad, thanks shadow_stalker :) By the way Stoic, what's 80's power metal like? I've heard stuff by helloween, and I tried to listen for similarities in the music, but since I'm relatively new to power metal, I really don't know  |
Im glad me and lord abortion were able to find a bassist, there is a lack of bass players that will play anything good in our area
don't suppose any of you know what synth effect Henrik from Sonata uses on the song 'victoria's secret'...i doubt it but it's worth a try asking |
Slave I will your guitarest.
Hey guys I recently got my hands on a friends copies of 3 Running Wild CDs. I don't know why he had them! The Victory, The Brotherhood and the Rivialy. Its pretty good and I enjoy it. Pirate Power Metal! |
I really need to get some running wild, but alas my cd buying has to stop for awhile so i can get some money together for some 8"+10" toms, i guess i will have to leave cd buying to ollie so i can borrow them
|
Yeah, fine, I'm looking to get some BM and DM for my CD binge this month though...
maybe a helloween album too though, or Dungeon- One step beyond |

By the way Stoic, what's 80's power metal like? I've heard stuff by helloween, and I tried to listen for similarities in the music, but since I'm relatively new to power metal, I really don't know
Well, in my opinion, during the 80s there weren't pure power metal bands, but there were those who played a kind of proto power that influenced the first generation of power metal with Helloween being the first and the most representative. I'm referring to melodic/heavy/speed or NWOBHM bands in the vein of Jag Panzer, Omen, Manilla Road, Angel Witch, Running Wild, Dio and especially Iron Maiden. |
I like Dio and Running Wild a lot  Never got into Maiden as much as my mates; I only really like Piece Of Mind and Powerslave. When I was younger I was into Priest, and now I like Scandi Power Metal best, so I kinda missed Maiden out.
I think Dio really deserves the title of father of Power Metal - his lyrics were in that Dungeons and Dragon style years before it was popular, and in Rainbow we had the beginnings of the heavy use of keyboards as well. I always thought Maiden were more the fathers of speed metal - there are virtually no keyboards in their music, they have a twin guitar attack (a rarity in Power metal I believe) their lyrics are often historical rather than mystical. For me it's definitely Dio, first with Rainbow, then his two album stint with Sabbath and then his first two solo albums; the ingredients are all there. |
I purchased "The Fourth Legacy" by Kamelot a couple of days ago. For $22 Canadian, I think it was a bit overpriced for me. It's a good album, but I should've given it more thought.
Also, what are your thoughts on Dark Moor?? |
Haven't gotten to them yet.
Next Saturday, by the way, my spotlight will be on Rata Blanca, the Argentinian power metal band. Just thought I'd let you guys know. |
Hey Stoic That Blind Gurdian Songs Rocks!
Mirror Mirror! |

Not that I know of. |
Hey Stoic That Blind Gurdian Songs Rocks!
Mirror Mirror!
Thank you for giving Blind Guardian a chance Dom. I hope they become the band to introduce you to the mighty world of power metal as soon as you overcome your summer laziness :p |
Haha nahh man I all ready knew a little of Rhaposdy, one Dragonforce song, And love Iron Maiden. But still its even more to listen so tahnks man.

Hey Steerpike a ninja pirate is good but they are no ninja wizards ;)
Indeed (The foot is pissing me off, but I know what I did wrong in drawing it, so meh) I've been binging on Manowar constantly now. :p |
I've recently gone on a Nightwish binge (more so than usual) after watching the End Of Innocence DVD.
Crap, it was powerful. Basically a 2 hour runthrough of Tuomas, Jukka, and that fat guy who did male vocals on Oceanborn (forgot his name) talking about the band's history, punctuated by moments of them on tour (half of the time, the band was drunk off their asses). It really gives insight into how much Nightwish means to Tuomas, and how much energy he put into the band. Well worth the 20 bucks I paid. Also got Iron Maiden - Rock In Rio (DVD) which I'm gonna watch today. |
Rock In Rio is a cool DVD but I think their studio stuff sounds better than the rio versions. Although at Ozzfest they completely owned, much more so than rio.
|
I am currently enjoying Strato's "Visions" album through my mini hi-fi system.
 |

So far I'm really liking Rhapsody. I buddy of mine just me into them, probably my favorite Power Metal band so far. Quick question, would anyone else consider Iron Maiden to be a kind of "premature" Power Metal band? For some reason after listening to some PM last night I just thought they had some of the elements of it.

You could say that. Although they weren't fully Power Metal themselves, they, along with Helloween, influenced many PM bands. |
weird. i see you edited it though. so you cant post it long but you can edit it later?
on topic, i got dragonforce - valley of the ****ed likr 2 weeks ago. i really like it
Dude, thank you so fucking much. I was just getting some more PM last night since my MP3 player is on the bust, and I just for the life of me couldn't think of Dragonforce for some reason. I spent half an hour racking my brains but couldn't come up with a name to them. Whew, I feel better now. :thumb: |
If I was to get one Blind Guardian album, which one should it be?
|
Get Nightfall In Middle-Earth
|
Helloween or Dungeon im gonna borrow it
also ollie we should order our train tickets for leeds online soon becasue we can apparently save money Is that the dvd that has the part were 2 of them get pissed and start sailing out to sea in a little rubber dingy naked?
I think both of them were drunk off their asses when they went out in the rubber dinghy...(is it dingy or dinghy?). Then the fire department comes, right? |
I apologise for my lack of PM purchases this month, I had devoted alot of previous months to this and splashed out on some brutal DM and some black metal too
normal service is resumed next month though also...screw Sharon Osbourne...stupid bitch and titch, I'll order the train tickets when my Mum gets back from holiday as I am going to be a little bereft of cash due to leeds this month ...so I will borrow her card :D man I'm going to start some "**** SHARON" chants on Friday... |
If I was to get one Blind Guardian album, which one should it be?
Somewhere Far Beyond I would say |
For Speed metal, get Follow the Blind. For Power metal, I'd say Nightfall in Middle Earth.
|
My favourite BG albums, in order, are:
Nightfall In Middle Earth Somewhere Far Beyond Follow The Blind A Night At The Opera |
Do I detect just a hint of bias? ;)
:D And just to get back on topic - BG's Somewhere Far Beyond is my vote for that! :) |
Speaking of Blind Guardian, I just borrowed A Night At The Opera from my local library!
NP: Megadeth - Tornado Of Souls. |
Somewhere Far Beyond I would say
That or Nightfall in Middle Earth IMO. |
I think both of them were drunk off their asses when they went out in the rubber dinghy...(is it dingy or dinghy?). Then the fire department comes, right?
yeah that was cool, remind me to do that sometime |
sorry about the double post
and titch, I'll order the train tickets when my Mum gets back from holiday as I am going to be a little bereft of cash due to leeds this month ...so I will borrow her card :D
I will order mine when i stop being lazy... also dude we should do some slayer :D |
