one of the best live bands ever, zeppelin is

fendercustomstrat 07-24-2004 07:19 PM

I started listening to The Eagles at 5, Pink Floyd at 10 and Hendrix when I started playing guitar at 12. From there, Zep, Cream, Allman Brothers, Beatles, Stones, Doors, Tull, anything, including '40s be-bop and most importantly the Blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson that guys like Hendrix, Clapton, and Jimmy Page worshipped.

I just went to a music festival in London Ont. and it was all Calssic Rock. It was awesome. Alice Cooper was there!! And Steppenwolf ,Randy Bachman and April Wine.

FUNKNBASS 07-25-2004 10:25 AM

When talking about classic rock and the legends no body seems to give any credit to MC5 they were playing heavy and crazy in the 60's.

DaveSavesTheDay 07-25-2004 10:44 AM

van halen are right up there in my fvourite band list

 That must of been great. Randy Bachman is even better today than he has ever been. Alice cooper rocks, so does april wine, I don't care too much for steppenwolf but they're alright.

We talk about them :)

BludgeonySteve 07-25-2004 12:02 PM

You would think that in 83 pages of a thread talking about nothing but classic rock that we would of mentioned them at least once...

Dude, that's the same one I went to! Man wasn't that fucking sweet? I up at the front every show (I cought a pic during the alice cooper show). I can't beleive april wine played 21st century schizoid man, that was awesome, and the drum solo :D! The whole kill bill thing (and the gang bit) alice did was top notch. The whole thing Randy bachman did in hey you was really cool too, and the little drumstick bit.

You don't care too much for steppenwolf? the band that gave us Magic Carpet Ride, Born to be wild, Rock me baby, The pusher? This is a sad day for rock :p.

Can I not have my own opinon and music taste? And I didn't say that I didn't like them. Just not as much as Alice cooper and Bachman which were at that show. And I don't like them as much a a ton of other bands but they are pretty good.

magicbus 07-25-2004 05:09 PM

Does anybody like Bob Seger? My friend just bought his live cd and apparently he really likes him. I know he's from Michigan or whatever, but I just don't enjoy his music. To me there's nothing special about it, its just not catchy. Any thoughts?

No, no one's alowed to have their own opinion! I guess you didn't catch on(afterall it's hard to tell on the internet) but I was joking. Anyways, I like them and they put on a good show.

I love Bob Seger. He has a great voice, is a great song writter, his band is kick *** and he's one of the greatest performers in the history of rock and roll, in my opinon.

We need more bands to talk about

War - I love this band. Currently I'm trying to pile up on their CD's but I still got ways to go. What I love aobut them is that they are a Classic Funkish Soulish Latinish Jam Band. They always provide awesome jams and great lyrics. The mellow funk grooves just hit the spot for me. They're quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. So far my favorite work of theirs is on All Day Music . It's their second album and probably their best. All 7 songs are a joy to listen with "Baby Brother" and "All Day Music" being my favorites. I recomend this album highly. Now lets see what you guys think.

Badmoon 07-26-2004 03:36 AM

The last great discussion we had was on The Allman Brothers.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 09:51 AM

We've had so many great discussions we're running out of bands and songs and such. So what are you guys listening to? I'm listening to jeff Healey band- Cover to cover. Man that guy gets a lot of great colaberations (sp)? George Harrison, Eric clapton, Mark Knopfler... All for some blind guy.

StreetlightRock 07-26-2004 09:56 AM

Deep Purple - Woman from Tokyo... playing along to it with my guitar. Man i love jsut sitting in front of my comp and listeing to CR songs and improvising solos and stuff to them, alot of them rely on quite a few of the same 'type' of notes and all, anyone else do this?

DVG.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 09:59 AM

That's what I do a lot. Exept only acoustic and I can't play solos as well on acoustic then electric.

StreetlightRock 07-26-2004 10:06 AM

I play alot of melodic solos on acoutics... so if its like a love song, id use an acoustic. *shrug* "Here comes salvation in the shape of my guitar!" Deep Purple - Lick it up... this song rocks!

DVG.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 10:11 AM

Here comes Jeff Healey stop breakin' down. Jeff Healey>Richie Blackmore.

B0nz0 07-26-2004 12:48 PM

hey guys i'm back and i'm seeing the doobie brothers tommorow night

Whatever 07-26-2004 12:52 PM
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
The Yardbirds have a new cd? what's the lineup?

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 12:55 PM
hey guys i'm back and i'm seeing the doobie brothers tommorow night
Yay, I missed you :). We kept the thread in good shape for ya. Doobie brothers sounds like it will be good. Is it like a bar show or are they playing an all ages venue?

B0nz0 07-26-2004 12:59 PM

all ages venue. then next week i'm seeing peter frampton. He'll play two songs that everyone will love and no1 will care about the rest of the show. but i'm totally psyched.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 01:00 PM

Lol I can't see the allman bros cause they keep playing bars. God dangit.

B0nz0 07-26-2004 01:05 PM

ooo and while i was gone, i went to the st. louis jazz festival. I TOUCHED WYNTON MARSALLEIS. and got his autograph. that was an awesome concert. Other updates, i got two new cds. I was upset with my complete lack of a beach boys album so i got their latest greatest hits album: Sounds of Summer: the Beach Boys Greatest Hits. It's amazing. 30 Godlike songs for $10. get it now. And i got Concert For George which is also great and well worth the money. Only low is Tom Petty's singing on 3 tracks. But it's made up for by the best versions of Something, While my Guitar Gently Weeps, and My Sweet Lord. Even Ringo turns in a spectacular performance. But the biggest standout is probably Billy Preston, also known as the 5th Beatle. His vocals and keyboard work on My Sweet Lord and Isn't It a Pity are truly awe inspiring. Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra also turns in some great performances, as does Joe Brown. And Clapton and McCartney are of course outstanding as usual.

By the way guys, thanks for keeping this thread going, when i started it i had no idea it would be so successful, but look at it now: one of the biggest threads in R&M with over 2000 posts!

Oh that's right, cause a sort of above average guitarist from the 60s and 70s is automaticly better than a really good one from the 80s/90s. The older they are and if they are from a well known band that got 80 percent of it's same from one bad powerchord riff that all of the 10 years can play counts for points

Whatever 07-26-2004 01:32 PM

Badmoon 07-26-2004 01:35 PM

^What the hell are you talking about? Yes, I like Blackmore's playing more because he's from the 60's and 70's . Quit making assumptions. It's like your looking for an excuse to why I find Blackmore better.

EDIT: Nice edit too :thumb: .
