Here's a question I think you could help me with:
Whenever a band member's name is credited to a song (i.e. "Harris" or "Smith/Dickinson"), does that mean they wrote both the words and music, just the music (with Steve Harris writing all the lyrics), or just the lyrics (with each band member writing their part)? |
hmmm it depends on which member your talking about. I havent known anyone to write lyrics except Steve, Bruce, and Adrian really. Someone may come up with a guitar line, another with a vocal melody, and a third might do the chorus or an interlude...basically they all throw in bits and pieces to make it fit, depends on the members really.
PS: ill be in london for a week, so if i see Romford on a map ill be like "hey mom, lets go here!"...she knows what im up to though lol. |

and go up to random people and ask if they know where he lives.
As for the writing of songs, the whole band kinda sits in a little circle (kinda like a campfire) and wirtes songs..........I know this, 'cos on the wildest dreams DVD single, there was a "making of Dance of Death" and there was a bit where they were practising montsegur, it sounds weird without distortion |
wow amazing

Ai-eeee! Bump!
What's everyone's opinion on the song "Flight of Icarus?" It's absolutely spine-tingling to listen to when you're in an airplane, and it's good no matter where you are. |
One of the best songs from the early part of their Career, shows off the wonderful chemistry of Bruce and Adrian.
|
Man, everyone ripping off the Death Heads fourm and making these "official" threads...  anyways, what can I say? Iron Maiden is, IMO, the DEFINITIVE metal band. Really. I still have yet to see any band do the guitar harmonizing thing better and you just can't step to Harris's basslines. Maiden rules, period.
And I REALLY need to see one of their shows before I die...
Or they Die |
what is it that you like so muych about somewhere in time?
here are the maiden albums i own in order of my preference 1.powerdslave 2.the number of the beast 3.seventh son of a seventh son 4.brave new world 5.dance of death 6.somewhere in time who agrees?
You should get Fear of the Dark, it is thier best album |
You should get Fear of the Dark, it is thier best album
Fear of the Dark is one of Maiden's greatest songs, but it's far from being Maiden's best album. To each his own, I guess. |
^^^
Its easily my least favourite of the Dickenson years. Not only is his voice weaker but it's the only album with filler tracks IMO. The songs on there that i like are some of my faovuites (wasting love, here to eternity, etc...) but some of the music on there you can see why the majority of it has never been played live. A bad choice for a first Maiden album to get into the band. |
yeh I agree, fear of the dark is one of the poorer albums, now somewhere in time, thats a great album, or SSOASS is great, or any of the big 5 is good to start on
|
Totally agree, Fear of the Dark has so much meaning and it is their best live song. My favourite albums are Piece of Mind and Seventh Son, but to be honest you would struggle to find a bad Maiden album.

Absolutely superb, great guitar, great lyrics and meaning and it is just a sensational song to listen to. |
anyone remember me?
well, i'm back. anyhoo, i just bought (on holiday) piece of mind - meaning i only have 3 studio albums left to get. yeah. also, has steve ever used his signature bass since Powerslave? I mean, seriously. It's bit of a waste to have a custom bass made and then never use it. |
