I appreciate the list of songs. From what I have heard of these bands they are wonderful. I will have to spend my night downloading these other songs.

Now if someone could recommend some Yes. All my classic rock/prog rock friends have recommend them but I have only heard one song.
any songs from albums close to the edge or fragile.

White Goodman 05-01-2005 09:16 AM

I downloaded some of the songs you recommended last night, and that is some great music. I can't believe I haven't discovered some of this music earlier. When I was dling some songs I stumbled across a neurosis song (yea i don't know how i did it either). I really liked what I heard, so can anyone tell me what are some good songs from them?

I'm just a demanding person, Thanks again.

FYI the song was Lost.

Green Carnation

For those of you who Haven't heard of or heard the band Green Carnation, Buy a record (CD) called Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness. The song is a little over an hour and will leave you speachless if you like that kind of music. I absolutely love that song, and has become a Masterpiece in my music collection. :thumb:

''Through the eternal flame I travel
As the rain keeps falling...'' - The Apostle In Triumph

You are a lucky person, Neurosis own majorly :)

Listen to the title track from the album 'The Eye of Every Storm', man I love that song so much.

Oh okay. What do you recommend that sounds similar to that?

Thanks tons, I loved what I downloaded and I don't really know much about them so I will have to dig a little deeper.

Bartender 05-01-2005 05:31 PM

I know the album A Sun That Never Sets is good, because I've actually heard it. Other than that I'm more or less useless for Neurosis. I think Souls at Zero is supposed to be good, as is Neurosis and Jarboe (the Swans vocalist), but don't take my word for it.

Dancin' Man 05-01-2005 05:33 PM

Go for the newest Neurosis. THey get increasingly better as they seperate themselves from their hardcore roots. The Eye of Every Storm is probably my favorite. And also check out similar bands like Isis and Mare or the mellower side which has Pelican and The Red Sparrows.

What is with the animal names?

White Goodman 05-01-2005 05:37 PM

I appreciate all the help guys. I have hears several Isis songs and from what I have heard they own. I just got down listening to The Eye of the Storm, and all i can say is wow. That song is amazing. :amaze:

:thumb: The 'whhhhhhuuurrrmb, whhhhhhhhhhurrrmb, whhhhhhhhhuuuurrrmb, whhhhhhhhhhuuurrrmb, wurmb, wurmb, wurmb, wurmb' bit is so great. Well I think so.

Does anybody know any bands with great piano, not neccissarily (****ed if I can spell that word) rock or metal but along the lines of X-Japan 'Art of Life' solo, or 'Pluvius Aestivus' by Pain of Salvation?

Also any bands with good Saxophone would be appreciated.

Nate22 05-01-2005 05:54 PM

I'm looking for some good Sepultura songs. I like the older, thrash stuff but I also liked a couple newer songs I heard, such as Mind War.

Stockholm Syndrome by Muse has a few piano interludes in it along with Accolade II by Symphony X. I don't know if that is what you are looking for but I hope I helped.

AHHHH I FORGOT TO CELEBRATE MY 50th POST!!!!

I have a lot of Muse stuff, all except Hullabaloo anyway. He is a great pianist.

Never did check out Symphony X that much, I like the song 'Fallen', gonna try and download that song.

Dancin' Man 05-01-2005 06:28 PM

For sax check out Solefald. A few songs off of In Harmonia Universali use saxophone.
Nutrisco Et Extinguo, Dionysify the Night of the Spring and Fraternité de la Grande Lumière all use sax.

I didn't really know a lot about them until some of these people recommend them, they are excellent. I recommend them highly, espcially Accolade II because of the piano parts.

Lightning_Rider 05-02-2005 08:03 PM

Can anyone recommend me some metal bands that don't have nasty vocals? The whole screaming/growling just doesn't do it for me. Also I don't like Black Metal or Death Metal and all that category. Also, I don't like bands that have excessive Satanic lyrics so none of that either if you can. If it's one or two songs only, that's okay though.

I'm a big fan of stuff like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Edguy, Masterplan, stuff like that, I also enjoy some progressive metal like Symphony X.

Also, so you guys don't recommend me anything I already have. I already know of Manowar, Helloween, Saxon, Metalium, Lost Horizon, Iron Savior, Iron Fire, Firewind, Rhapsody, Falconer, Dragonforce, Motorhead, Magic Kingdom, Dragonheart, Cryonic Temple, Blind Guardian, KISS, Rush, Angra, Adagio, Nightwish, Power Quest, Queensryche, Sonata Artica, Stratovarius, Timo Kotipelto, Yngwie Malmsteen, Symphorce, Steel Attack, Racer X, Dream Theater, Katatonia, Procupine Tree, Valhalla... as well as the above bands I mentioned...

Anyways I know more than them but I'm thinking I should stop naming bands there...

Lastly, sorry for making this such a long post but I just wanna get into bands other than these. I'll actually be kinda surprised if anyone can recommend something else that I'll like

Believer 05-02-2005 08:09 PM

Lightning - I'd suggest Control Denied
also Martyr (Not Martyr AD mind you), they yell, but they dont really growl...

Now for my request: Can somebody name me some good technical death or thrash metal bands, like Atheist, Death, Carcass, Martyr and all that... nothing that well known or anything, thanks

You sir, are a pussy. :p

Well, you are just missing out on tons of great music though, also the bands that mix clean and harsh vocals as well. May I ask what bands from the death and blakc metal genre you have heard, and how long have you given time to listen to them?

So...you don't like growled or screamed vocals, but you still like Katatonia? Obviously only like the later part of their works...

But anywho, some of these bands might not fit your exact tastes, but they have clean vocals and are good though.

Arcturus (stay away from songs from their first album since it is mostly screaming)
Age Of Silence
Winds
Dream Evil
Hammerfall
Kamelot
Nevermore
Otyg
Paradise Lost (last 5-6 full lengths)
Within Temptation

I'm not a *****, I just don't enjoy screaming and growling and I'm not too big on Satan stuff that's all. Nothing wrong with that.

What I heard from Katatonia so far isn't that much screaming.

Anyways thanks for your suggestions but most of the bands you mentioned there I have and forgot to put on the list  but I'll check out the ones I don't have.

And the stuff that I don't like about Death/Black Metal is just mainly the screaming. Also as I mentioned I don't like overly satanist bands. Anyways that's just my tastes.

I was being sarcastic, don't worry.

There is nothing wrong about not liking that stuff and all, I just like to say that to people. :)

I'm going to suggest you try Opeth, I was never big on growling until I heard them. Their transitions between clean and harsh really opened up my musical tastes, and I think they could do the same for you.

Try:
The Moor
To Bid You Farewell (soft song, but I'm yet to hear someone speak poorly of it)
Bleak

Control Denied. Definitely definitely definitely Control Denied.

Really though, I'd recommend trying to get past blocking out huge swathes of great music just based on vocals or lyrics.

a great classic rock band that isnt well known is Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Try listening to Four Dead In Ohio, and Southern Cross. Joe Walsh is an awsome rocker, he was the guitarist for the eagles. Try Rocky Mountain Way, Funk 49, and Lifes Been Good. Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne) are a great, stacked, and a pretty unknown band.

joe_fresh 05-03-2005 10:39 AM

Can someone recommend me some black metal similar to arcturus' later stuff, especially la masquerade infernal. Preferably clean vocals but im not too fussed. Cheers.
