So I saw NIN last night at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO.

and I must say...

It was freaking amazing, they opened up with a song they haven't played in awhile...Mr. Self-Destruct!! That in itself was completely awesome, but the rest of the show was just as amazing when I saw them last time at the Saavis Center in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Josh Freeze filled in on drums this time and WOW did he add a lot to the performance, putting some double bass in every now and again...it was quite awesome when he did it during Terrible Lie.

Set List of the Night

Mr. Self Destruct
Sin
Terrible Lie
March of the Pigs
The Frail
The Wretched
Closer
Wish
Eraser
Right Where It Belongs
Beside You in Time
Gave Up
Every Day is Exactly the Same
Only
Burn
Reptile
Deep
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Starfuckers Inc.
Head Like a Hole

All in All...a fantastic show...can't wait to see them again next month!

misunderstood 02-19-2006 09:19 PM

Gosh, March 24th seems so far away! Glad you had fun at the show though. I'm really fvckin' hoping the Austin show gets to hear Mr. Self-Destruct. I'd also love to hear 'Even Deeper' but seems like it was played only at the first show, I believe. Well, people who got into soundcheck yesterday heard it then..lucky them.

7) Quake O.S.T.
Hmm..I knew Reznor had done the music for this but I haven't been able to find any of the tracks. Where did you find them?
9) ...And All That Could Have Been DVD
:thumb: Awesome dvd! I really wish they'd do something like it for this With_Teeth tour. There were rumors about Reznor wanting to release something from this tour but who knows.
10) Still
Though I don't own the actual album, I do have every track on my computer...I did hear it was being sold at the merchandise booths on this tour, so hopefully, I'll finally be able to get my hands on it. I love The Becoming off of that album...and well of course one of my faves, AATCHB
13) Unplugged (ja die gibts es auch!!)
What exactly is this?

Darth Sidious 02-20-2006 02:19 AM

I'm still waiting for Closure on DVD.

repcak 02-20-2006 04:19 AM

@The Crimson: the setlist is amazing... never saw such a great setlist... wish i had been there :(

@misunderstood:
Quake O.S.T.: i can't remember it exactly... its ages ago i got it. either i got it from a fan who is a big Quake fan, or i download it from a fileshare program. try emule or something like that... but the album is nothing special.

Unplugged: yeah i didn't believe it at first. a girlfriend got it from a nin-fan and she copied the cd for me. as far as i can remember NIN gave an unplugged concert right after the fragile tour in a small studio/place. you hear the atmosphere, i think that there were not more than maybe 50fans while playing; a really small concert. all songs were unplugged - no synth or something like that. an acoustic guitar.... its beautiful. he even played Hurt twice, but i don't know why... maybe he wasn't happy about the first time, who knows; though i can't hear any mistakes in the first version....
but the important thing is: it was never released; its inofficial; you can't buy it... its a bootleg from the studio.

I think that's an appropriate end to the album, considering what happens.
You shouldn't really try to argue when you clearly didn't read my post, where I said it's good for the theme of the album but ruins the song.

I just think it's ridiculous. It starts out good but then it goes into the chorus with this "BEWM, BEWM" painful beat which is just stupid. Maybe it's the industrial idea of a power ballad?

And on that other topic, I think The Fragile has too much poppier songs and non-spacey production to be as epic as The Downward Spiral, which is one of the most epic albums I've ever heard (mmm A Warm Place and Eraser).

It's good but missing too much stuff off The Fragile for my liking.... That being said i would LOVE to see Mr. Self Destruct live, i cant even imagine how well that would go off :(

I did read your post, and all you mentioned was "retarded effects and production," to which I replied and asked you to be more specific.

Turkish 02-20-2006 10:46 AM

Mr. Self Destruct was so awesome, I remember when they started the opening riff, me and my friend just looked at each other wide-eyed and simutaneously yelled "HOLY SHIT!!!"

I'm really excited to see what they have in store next month.

They also played an extended edition of Closer, they added in an extra chorus and changed the style of the song to more upbeat.

Plus, we have tickets for the Fan Club...so we get to get in early and listen to the soundcheck \m/

misunderstood 02-20-2006 12:58 PM

^Hey, what songs did you all get during soundcheck? I remember last year when I got in, we got 'Reptile', 'The Wretched' and..hmm, there was another one...can't remember it at the moment. Anyway, did you all get a meet and greet as well? If so, lucky you. Seems like not everyone is getting a meet and greet this time around. Luckily they did hold one last year when I saw them in San Antonio. It was quite nerve-wrecking.

Turkish 02-20-2006 02:01 PM

We didn't get there in time for soundcheck this time around, but I believe we got the fan club tickets for the next concert in march.

EDIT: My friend also got some cool footage of the concert, pics and video snipits...if you want any, just give me your email and I'll see if I can get it from him and upload it to you guys.

It's cool because it's HIGH resolution, like 3000 x 3000 res pics.

repcak 02-20-2006 02:35 PM

wow... yeah, please. that would be great!

Turkish 02-20-2006 03:18 PM

will do, we got a gig worth of media.

I got this really badass pic of Jordie in front of this blue light...the only pic I took that night :D

Turkish 02-20-2006 04:13 PM

Like I said, it might be a bit before I can get the footage...seeing as my friend is currently on vacation, but I'll see if I can get ahold of him tonight.

I can't believe how far back this thread is. I guess it makes sense though seeing as how nothing new is going on. Anyway, about two weeks ago a whole bunch of summer dates were released. I got my tickets for Houston on June 4th at the Woodlands just last week! Anyone else gonna check them out this summer?

I actually just saw NIN this past Friday here in Austin. This was my third time seeing them and I can honestly say this was by far the best show I've seen. It was flawless and there was so much energy from each and every member. Trent and Aaron going into the audience was great. 'Pilgrimage/Mr.Self Destruct' were beyond great! Again I was fortunate enough to get into soundcheck/meet & greet...I can personally say joining the spiral has been well worth it. I had awesome seats for that show and I've got great seats for the summer as well. I stil wish they'd play more stuff off The Fragile though. Perhaps this summer they'll bring back songs like "Just Like You Imagined" and maybe AATCHB. Anyway for anyone interested the setlist this past Friday was:
-Pilgrimage
-Mr.Self Destruct
-Sin
-Terrible Lie
-The Line Begins to Blur
-March of the Pigs
-Something I Can Never Have
-Closer/ The Only Time
-Burn
-Gave Up
-Eraser
-Right Where It Belongs
-Beside You In Time
-Piggy
-Wish
-Only
-Every Day is Exactly the Same
-The Day the World Went Away (Still version! It was freakin' awesome)
-You Know What You Are?
-Suck
-Hurt
-The Hand that Feeds
-Head Like A Hole

Soundcheck:
-Piggy
-Reptile
-Home

repcak 03-26-2006 02:52 PM

wow thats a long list... and "the day the world went away" (still version) ... you lucky one :thumb:

i hope they will come to europe as soon as possibel

Turkish 03-28-2006 11:20 AM

Alright, So I saw NIN again at Wichita, KS last night. And again...wow...they delivered to the fullest extent. The biggest highlights for me were Piggy and The Day the World Went Away. Also NIN finally had an opening act I enjoyed, Saul Williams did a great job and the crowd accepted him openly (which is a BIG surprise for Wichita, KS).

Anyways, here's the setlist for the night.

Pilgrimage
Mr. Self Destruct
Sin
Terrible Lie
The Line Begins to Blur
March of the Pigs
Something I Can Never Have
Closer
Burn
Gave Up
Eraser
Right Where it Belongs
Beside You in Time
Piggy
Wish
Only
Everyday Is Exactly The Same
The Day The World Went Away
You Know What You Are
Suck
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole

Again...great show. Didn't get in on the soundcheck though :(

misunderstood 03-28-2006 02:31 PM

^Seems like we got pretty much the exact same setlist. I was really hoping to hear 'Dead Souls'..oh well, perhaps during the summer tour. TTDWWA was indeed awesome! Eraser, RWIB, and Beside You In Time were fvckin' great as well...the curtain show was cool..i espeically liked it at the end when Trent "shatters" the glass. :thumb:

Hey Turkish, are you also a spiral member? If so, have you checked out the random webcast that they've got going over there? It's pretty cool.

Kage 03-28-2006 03:00 PM

How did Beside You In Time sound live? I'd kill to hear that.

misunderstood 03-28-2006 03:24 PM

Oh man, Beside You In Time is orgasmic live! It's my favorite track off WIth Teeth so it was one of the highlights of the show for me. It's quite intense and it just sounds beautiful! I can't explain it, heh. Too bad i don't have a recording of it. The only good, live recording I have from the Austin show is 'Suck' and some footage from soundcheck.

Kage, planning to check them out in June at the woodlands?

123, BYIT is amazing live. It's like one big cathartic release of energy, it gave me goosebumps when I saw them.

I'm not a Spiral Member, my friend is...but more than likely he's checked out the webcast.

Even though it'll never happen, I still wanna see We're in this Together, The Perfect Drug and The Great Below live...

If only it would happen...:(

I'd die to see 'We're in this Together Now' but doesn't seem likely. He once mentioned that the reason for not playing this live was because the range is too high for his voice...and last week during the meet and greet someone asked him about 'Sunspots' and he said the same thing. I also wish they'd bring back "Just Like You Imagined".

'The Great Below' I wish I could have seen live as well but no luck...I'll just have to watch it over and over on the AATCHB dvd, heh. Oh and speaking of, last night's show was taped for an upcoming live WIth Teeth dvd! And tomorrow's show is gonna be taped as well.
The high resolution is such a huge difference from what we've done in the past with DV cameras (ie And All That Could Have Been). Can't wait for this now.

Turkish 03-29-2006 03:31 PM

Just Like You Imagined would be awesome to see...

I also still have yet to see Ruiner...

Also, Josh Freeze on Piggy was outstanding.

I'm debating it; I hate the Woodlands with a passion, but it seems to be the only place NIN will play around here without the tickets selling out in a fraction of a second, so I might have no choice. I called in a radio station today to try and win tickets, but I didn't get it.

Seeing Just Like You Imagined, Ruiner, Reptile, The Day the World Went Away and Beside You In Time live in the same show would be life-changing.

Hmm. Well, i've been to the Woodlands one other time and I thought it was all right. I was sitting at about the second row from the stage..this time i'm about ten rows back. Anyway, good luck with getting tickets through a radio station..i've been lucky enough to win tickets for a concert only once..and that was to see The Mars Volta at sold out show.

I'd absolutely love to see Just Like You Imagined and Ruiner as well. But I'd also love to see The Becoming, And All that Could Have Been, and We're In This Together Now.

repcak 05-03-2006 12:29 PM

its now about a year ago, that "With Teeth" is being released ... and this thread dies everytime very fast :(

... before the release of "With teeth", it seems that NIN has a big (a fukking big!!) fanbasis - the tickets for the concerts were sold out in minutes! now, after one year, nobody reminds NIN ... NIN felt into oblivion.
Is it because a lot fans were disappointed with "WT", or does NIN not have such a big fanbasis i always thought? or do we have to search for this reason in the fact that on MX there aren't too much NIN-fans. Tool hasn't released an album for years but everybody talked about them ... about nin they don't - or has already everything been said about nin?

am i the only one, who thinks that NIN felt into oblivion and the reason that the tickets were sold out in minutes was only a big hype?!

misunderstood 05-03-2006 12:50 PM

You know, I actually tried keeping this thread alive but like you said, it just seems to die off quickly so I just gave up on it. So now i just have to stick with ETS and the spiral boards. I don't know...i don't think it's that NIN doesn't have a large fan base cause they do. I have noticed though that there aren't too many fans of the band here on MX.

Maybe once they start touring again this summer or once the live WT dvd comes out, there will be more activity going on in this thread. Does kinda suck to see it not being able to survive without the release of anything new though. But who knows, maybe after a few weeks/months the Tool thread will start dying off as well...though I don't see it happening anytime soon..and i hope not. But in the meantime, I'll be seeing NIN again on June 4th! :D
