*is gonna help*

Riva 09-13-2004 08:28 PM

Just make it so that no noobs can do it. Like, have two guys who can write good featured articles to moderate the featured artists thread. And any noobs who write crappy articles will have to apply to have theirs shown.

Kingofdudes 09-13-2004 08:29 PM

Perhaps someone could do the Black Mages for one, I wouldnt mind reading that.

Bartender 09-13-2004 08:32 PM

Well the whole point of FAs is to be detailed and slow. So, Medopalis is doing the first one right now. Once he puts his up, someone will take dibs on the next one (pending approval, since so many noobs are likely to be excited at this "new" concept), and they have about two weeks to put one together. Then two weeks (or more) after Medopalis' was posted, a new one gets posted and his is unstickied and archived.

Riva 09-13-2004 08:32 PM

Well, if my history of metal gets a good mark, I might submit that.

Edit: Does it have to be a featured artist?

Bartender 09-13-2004 09:02 PM

Has anyone here ever seen Bobobo (sometimes spelled Bo-bobo)?

If not, and you use DC++ or some similar film/TV show-heavy p2p program, I highly suggest taking the time to try to find a couple of episodes of it. You'll either think it's total balls, or the most genius animated series the world has ever known.

A word of caution; it's random. I mean, you may watch Family Guy and think "Wow. That's random", but you don't know random until you've seen Bobobo. Beyond weird, but so good.

Just saw this bit; I'd imagine so. That's why it's called Featured Artist :)

I don't think Family Guy is random.

Riva 09-13-2004 09:10 PM

I mean as opposed to writing an article about a genre or particular song or theme of a band. And other things that relate to metal...

The episodes have a unifying storyline (something Bobobo lacks after the first episode, by the way), but all the flashbacks that occur throughout each show, along with much of what isn't flashbacks, are incredibly random.

I still think it has to be an artist. You could post any articles like that you have anyway, and petition the mods for it to be included in the list of threads in the Rules thread. Or maybe an exception could be made, I don't know.

Kind of like when they talk about coupons then all of a sudden Peter gets into a long drawn out fight with a chicken?

Bartender 09-13-2004 09:37 PM

Yeah, see, this guy gets it.

That's what makes it funny though. They're really comical and hilarious

Bartender 09-13-2004 10:16 PM

I know, I love Family Guy. And Bobobo. I just didn't see how that guy thinks it isn't random.

RavenousMetalist87 09-13-2004 10:18 PM

I don't get it either Bartender...

It's just...great overall! XD

Awesomeness...

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 08:48 AM

 that's great

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 08:54 AM

Agreed.

God, work sucks. Want. To. Go. Home.

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 08:55 AM

School would suck if I were there.

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 08:59 AM

Jeez, Dillinger Escape Plan is really good. I gotta get more of their stuff.

Wow. Calculating Infinity is one of the best albums I've heard in weeks.

On a side note, I love Meshuggahs production. Bass = clear. I'm going to produce that band someday.

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 09:01 AM

I've only heard their stuff off of the "Irony is a Dead Scene" EP.

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 09:02 AM

What would they be classified as? Hardcore?

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 09:04 AM

I always thought of them as grindcore, some call them "math metal".

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 09:08 AM

Never heard that one before.

I have to say, no offense to anyone, but I don't understand the obsession and fascination with continuously dividing and further subdividing genres (usually by adding "core") and creating new genres. Eventually every band is going to have their own genre.

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 09:15 AM

Grindcore is about having a bunch of extreme music, usually within a short amount of time.

A few Grindcore bands are

DEP
Napalm Death
The Locust
Firewerk

Math Metal are bands that have a lot of time changes like Meshuggah, Mudvayne, DEP.

But the whole -core thing is pretty gay.

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 09:21 AM

Sorry, should have been more specific. I know grindcore, not math metal. But from what you're telling me, I like this gnere.

I've never heard Mudvayne, but I love Meshuggah. I guess I'm a fan of heavily technical math metal then. Apparently.

I'll never forget the first time my buddy told me about some "screamo" song. I was like WTF is that?

Stupid genre name ever IMHO = mallcore

Kingofdudes 09-14-2004 09:24 AM

[QUOTE=Paranoidd]

I think emocore beats that in the retarded category.

Paranoidd 09-14-2004 09:25 AM

<-- 0wned.

This is true.

Bartender 09-14-2004 09:26 AM

Emocore and screamo are pretty much the same thing, and I don't think they're all that stupid, because it's a mix of emo and hardcore.

Mallcore is just the I'm-a-cool-elitist way of saying nu-metal.
