Yeah, that's exactly what Ayreon is about for me. I actually e-mailed Arjen a few months ago thanking him for not only giving us one of the finest albums of last year, but also opening the doors to a whole variety of different bands. Coincidentally, it was actually the Ayreon album that really got me into Opeth, because hearing Mikael on there made me take a second look at them (I was at that "oooooh...death metal scary!!!" phase then)*cowers*. *puts on Godhead's Lament* BWaaaaaa!!!!

btw you can hear samples of Elfonia's music from their official page (I think it's just http://www.elfonia.com/ ). "Aura" is the group's single, and it's good, but I prefer the other song, "Nuestra descanso."
Unless your from Australia
Or unless your from New Zealand.

We pay up to $50 here for an Opeth c.d
The most expensive being the new sculptured tin cases. An average c.d would be $35-40

No, you are probably thinking of Otep.

As for Opeth, yeah, they kick major ***. I have all their albums, and they are all fantastic. My favs are Still Life and Blackwater Park.

Darkness 02-27-2005 09:46 AM

I don't think he listened to Opeth, I think he just got the names mixed up.

There's a "contact" page on his website, just look around a bit and there's an "e-mail Arjen" option. He even responded promptly to my message in detail, I was pleasantly surprised.

whatduffhuck7 02-27-2005 07:14 PM

the otep girl is pretty bad *** though, pretty hot too

opeth_oasis 02-28-2005 12:23 AM

what bands would you guess people like if they liked opeth? There seems to be alot of Tool and Ayreon fans here............

sj_2150 02-28-2005 12:32 AM

I have alot of trouble finding good music these days, alot of trouble. I recently bought Blackwater Park after a friend told me that Opeth were good and i was not disapointed. Bleak is my favourite track and Dirge for November. Im now a fan and i want to buy Orchid. However i heard something about them getting a major record deal. this could mean good or bad news. Record companies manipulate bands to make them more accessible to more people. this could mean changing their music. Whats your opinion

BradyEB 02-28-2005 02:29 AM
Brady EB: Are you from N.Z as well?
I've already stated I'd love to see Opeth cross the ditch to play at least one show in New Zealand. If it was in Auckland, hell if it was in Timaru I'd be there.
I'ld have to think about that Timaru gig. But I still dream they will come.

A lot of Dream Theater fans like Opeth, but not many Opeth fans like Dream Theater...if you follow...

Grey Incision 02-28-2005 04:42 AM

hmm, i'm both ways, i like dream theater and Opeth..................and Tool:), and Ayreon :).....................and i quite like Pantera, but that could just be a personal taste

For a new band, yes. However, I think it's pretty clear that Opeth is shopping around for music labels - they won't settle for one that tries to administer any kind of creative control. Because they already have a well established fanbase, promotions, name recognition, etc, they pretty much get the freedom to do whatever it is that they want. I'm sure they'd drop any company that even so much as "hinted" as to what their music should sound like. :)

RideTheSpiral 02-28-2005 05:00 AM

I used to love Opeth but now I rarely listen to them.

Still Life is by far their best album in my opinion.

White Cluster. Woo!

I agree with you.

Opeth just wouldn't be Opeth anymore, if they made geeky 3 minute songs.

Mikeal would never do something like that to his band, for which he has worked so hard.

Mikeal hasn't given 15 years of effort to let his sound be changed by some stupid commercial Label

Exactly.

I think that all these concerts ive been playing with our jazz band has got me back into Opeth, considering they go a bit farther than most metal bands do. Black Rose Immortal!

P.S. April Ethereal is the heaviest song ever.

Deth 02-28-2005 07:45 PM

On the question of other bands that Opeth fans like, I'm hoping Rush. Because, you know, they rule and all.

evil ernie 02-28-2005 08:11 PM

I don't like Rush.

P.S. Blackwater Park is the most evil song ever.

Deth 02-28-2005 08:30 PM

NO RUSH!!! Oh well.

On another note, I got Lamentions over the weekend and it is awesome. I'm halfway through the documentary now.

JeBuZ 02-28-2005 08:31 PM

OMFG! Opeth are the best band ever!
They are impossible to get sick of, I have all the CD's and can't wait for another one to come out.

P.S This is a pointless post I know. But OMFG Opeth!

If you had to have an Opeth song played at you're funeral, what would it be? I asked myself this question and came up with too many songs I would want. :p
