i once made the assertion that a bass with < 4 strings is obnoxious and not necessary, and i got chased out by an angry mob.
side note: brian gibson from Lightning Bolt is allowed to have a 5 string because his playing is so ridiculous anyways, and its a banjo string anywhoo, but it could be contested i guess.
