I am very fond of the fanned frets, definitely. My Stambaugh is the most comfortable bass I've ever played. I don't like playing anything else. Of course, I've barely even picked up my bass in the last while, lol, so who knows.

Can't quite work out if that rider is super awesome or super jerky!

Both. I mean, obviously it has to be stern so that you don't end up with garbage in your salads, but it's humorous enough to let the roadies and venue know that you like to have fun and aren't a total douche.

FunkMetalBass 08-30-2011 11:25 PM

Accidentally came across this video. I thought it was a pretty decent cover.

fatbandit 09-01-2011 10:56 AM

My band split up again haha.

Convectuoso 09-01-2011 03:28 PM

Lol just go it alone man, bands are too stressful to deal with.

FunkMetalBass 09-02-2011 02:42 PM

I was less than 20 feet away from Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and Russell Allen (Symphony X) last night. Their new project, Adrenaline Mob, is sounds pretty good and extremely tight. Here is the grainy/blurry cell phone picture for proof:

Funny story of the night: A local band Frequis opened the show and their drummer's toms were virtually inaudible. I asked him after the set if they mic'd his toms at all. He replied, "No, there were only 3 open drum mic channels for my kit; Mike Portnoy took up the rest."

Jaded 09-04-2011 07:19 PM

lazy soundguys...

FunkMetalBass 09-04-2011 08:09 PM
lazy soundguys...
That's what I thought too. It wouldn't be hard to just unplug a few mics (keeping them set up for Portnoy's kit) and plugging them into a few new mics for the opening bands. Everything would still be just fine from the soundcheck.

fatbandit 09-05-2011 09:37 AM

Or tell Portnoy to fuck off and use less mics/drums. Just because he was in Dream Theater doesn't mean he should have the authority to ruin the sound for the other bands. I thought he was supposed to be a nice guy!

FunkMetalBass 09-05-2011 03:46 PM

I'm quite surprised he didn't bring his own sound guy.

BenJammin 09-05-2011 03:58 PM

Somehow, I doubt Mike had anything to do with the way the sound guy did the setup. If he had known, maybe he would have given up some extra mics. Idk. Idc either.

He got big leagued! You big leaguing me bro?!?!

For so long I was thinking, surely this must be one of those dubs. But noooooooo.

FunkMetalBass 09-07-2011 09:12 AM

Damn I wish I could view it. Youtube is never guaranteed to display video properly in linux.

funkyhoney 09-08-2011 02:54 AM

Hahahahahahha!!!

I was watching and like "Huh? This isn't THAT bad."

Then... Ohhhhh... Shit... I love how they're trying to groove with him still.

fatbandit 09-08-2011 11:05 AM

That was painful. The guy obviously knows some technique I guess, but everything he did sounded bloody terrible.

In other news, I just found a picture of me at work on Google Maps, haha.

 Pics?

Also, gaslight, I have a question for you. What is theory behind playing seventh chords? Do I choose a 7th chord based off the appropriate mode? For example, if I'm playing in the key of C, do I choose:

C maj7
D min7
E min7
F maj7
G 7
A min7
B (half-diminished)7

?

fatbandit 09-09-2011 12:45 PM

I'll find a pic later haha. Just going out now, don't have time to find it, screen grab and save it and shit. It's not gonna be worth the wait :p

While you're on the west side, book another flight to Arizona, and bring your bass. We can has jam session!

If it was financially feasible, I'd be down for sure. You like bass, and good beer.

Yeah, to get the diatonic seventh chords within a key you just keep building up in diatonic thirds.

So triads:

C (CEG)
D- (DFA)
E- (EGB)
F (FAC)
G (GBD)
A (ACE)
B diminished (BDF)

Seventh chords:

Cmaj7 (CEGB)
D-7 (DFAG)
E-7 (EGBD)
Fmaj7 (FACE)
G7 (GBDF)
A-7 (ACEG)
Bb -7b5 aka "half diminished" (BDFA)

You've got the right idea - just keep building up in thirds within the key.

What I want to know is, does Deep Purple take 50 letters to write in Japanese? And if it doesn't (and it doesn't) what does that subtitle say. I imagine it's a warning.

To be fair, Smoke On The Water is one of the 99% of songs that don't need a bass solo. Though you could argue it didn't get one.

It's Korean, which I can't really read, but it looks to be information about the song.

gaslight 09-10-2011 08:14 PM

Oh, well if it's Korean then it's probably a message thanking almighty leader Kim Jong-il for writing and recording that song during one of his many victorious battles against the treacherous USA moon-dragon robot.
