I think I like GR better than Damnation.
Huh? |
My Arms Your Hearse = teh ****
Agreed. I just bought it two days ago. Can't get enough. |
He dosn't scream, he growls. :p
And argueably their usual mix of metal and soft aspects is more experimental than Damnation. :p
Good point innit. :p |
I don't like Opeth very much. Bland.
|

Bland? I've heard Opeth called many things but never bland.
Huh?
I don't know, I just don't get anything from Damnation anymore and it's not like I over-played it either. |
Bland? I've heard Opeth called many things but never bland.
I dont' know, they just never really appealed to me very much. Not my thing. edit: well, i won't go that far, if im in the mood, i may listen to them once in a while. |

edit: well, i won't go that far, if im in the mood, i may listen to them once in a while.
That's different, bland means that it lacks character. Opeth has more character than any every metal band period. Anyway, my solo project is learning Ghost of Perdition for a live cover. How awesome is that? Mike's solos on sax are going to sound amazing. |
Haha. Badass.

I find that Opeth is one of those bands that shouldn't be covered... my band can play Demon of the Fall and Deliverence, but we don't because we're not Opeth... I can growl in the same range and sing in the same range as Mike, but my voice doesn't fit... the same goes for playing the songs... it's just something special about them, that someone playing it just doesn't sound right. |
Bland? I've heard Opeth called many things but never bland.
He does not know the meaning of bland. At first listen, Opeth were too folk sounding to me. Although at the time, I hadnt heard bands like Equillibrium or Finntroll. haha. I think the first song I head was Harvest. |
what does everyone think of Ghost Reveries? what are your favourite songs of it?
|
Its a good album, not my favorite. I like the atmosphere. of the album but I think that its lacking a feel from previous albums.
Fav song is probably Baying Of The Hounds:) |
It's a good album but unlike the previous albums, the songs really are hindered by their length. It's the only album since their first two (which I don't really like) where I feel that way about the songs.
what does everyone think of Ghost Reveries? what are your favourite songs of it?
I absolutely love it. It's by far has the most focused(Uh, I guess you could say stripped down) songs out of all their heavy albums. All of Mikael's vocals are in perfect harmony with the music and vice versa. I also like how riffs on the songs sound alike. For instance, on GoP the opening riff sounds just like the acoustic riff which follows later on at like 2:50. That "Ghost of, Mother!!" vocal melody would fit perfectly with that acoustic riff if only it werent growled. I also like how subtle some of the transitions from heavy to soft are. They just sound so natural on this album. Take that transition at about 7 mins of GoP. I didnt even know it hit me until it was a few seconds in the first time I heard it. The solos rule.Nuff said. Mikael's vocals sound stunning. That "No longer struggling to declare your stand.." part on TBotH is hypnotic. Isolation Years quite being his best clean vocal performance to date. And the growls.....well they are fuckin evil. I just think it's very overlooked and underappretiated. Everyone gushes about all the other albums and fails to point out that this album is filled with countless special moments that measure up to all their previous material. But whatever. To each his own. |
I own Morningrise and I like Advent. What are you think of it?
|
Welcome to the forums. I can tell english is not your 1st language and upon reading your avatar, I have more verification.
Advent is a great track, But my favorite is Nectar. |
Advent is awesome but Black Rose Immortal owns that album.
|
Advent + The Night and the Silent Water = Some of the best riffing ever.
|
Advent is probably my favorite on Morningrise.
|
I'd say Black Rose Immortal is the weakest Morningrise song.
|
BRI is damn good, I think The Night and the Silent Water is the weakest.
To Bid You Farewell is probably one of their best soft songs, aside from Benighted, Credence, To Rid The Disease, and A Fair Judgement. |
I'd say Black Rose Immortal is the weakest Morningrise song.
I'd say urrong. It's just as sloppily put together as every song on there (except TBYF) but its riffs are the best. Especially the one from 1:10 to 3:10. And the acoustic parts and vocal melodies own very hard. |
I don't think Advent, Nectar, or NATSW are sloppily written at all. BRI is the only one that strikes me as 20 minutes of randomly strung together riffs.
|

I agree. People only go ga-ga over it because of its length. |
I agree. People only go ga-ga over it because of its length.
No....because the riffs it's slung together from are so awesome. |
Pfft. ;)
|
Talking about Morningrise, I havn't listened tot hat album in a while...
/thinks he will put it on later. I'm really not sure which my favorite song on the album is... |
Advent and To Bid You Farewell are mine.
