Kirk isn't bad by no means, i'm just sayung thats he's not the only decent guitarist in the world. Expand your musical influences man, theres a big world out there.
iron maiden had no influence on james and lars it was DIAMOND HEAD ................oh yeah kirk is THE best out there
Lars was out in England and he saw Iron maiden and diamond head and some others play, so he decided to make his own band.
And Kirk is not the best out there.

I'v been messing around playing some of the songs from St.Anger, the droptunning is acually kinda fun for awhile

Of course the old Metallica was godly though, and WAY funner to play

Endless Obsession 03-04-2005 10:10 PM
They can all run CIRCLES around Kirk. Even Hetfield can. And he's rhythm.
If your gonna try and be tough, know what you are talking about. hetfield isnt nearly as good as kirk when it comes to lead.

vashts80 03-04-2005 10:18 PM

I didn't know that, because I could have sworn that Hetfield writes all the riffs except the solos.

People say that Kirk didn't play on St. Anger because there were no solos, but actually he played more on St. Anger than he did on any of their older, classic albums. Hetfield would do all rhythm tracks and Kirk would just solo.
On the Loads and St. Anger, Kirk can be heard in the right speaker, while James is in the left.

No you are wrong, Kirk played a lot of the rhythm with him.

Hm, well maybe it was just the Black Album. Have you ever seen "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica?" James did pretty much all the rhythm on the album, and did all the guitar work in Nothing Else Matters, even the solo.

PepsiMetal 03-04-2005 11:06 PM

I remember seeing on SKOM kirk was arguing with lars about having solos. Even bob rock said he thinks there should be solos where they're needed, but not going solo crazy. Anyways, is there a reason why they didnt have any solos in there? They all seemed to want them except lars.

Hmmm..no i havent seen it but yeah its definitly possible, ill take your word over mine when it comes to black album, but i know in there earlier albums its both of them most of the time.

vashts80 03-04-2005 11:15 PM

But you totally miss my point. James writes all the riffs except the solos. Kirk just plays the lead riffs that James writes.

Well...yeah, Lars was the one who brought forth the idea of what he called "riff-o-rama" things. Kirk said that there should be solos (so the album won't sound like a "trend") yet he wasn't interested in playing normal solos. Bob Rock simply said that there shouldn't be a rule of solos or not solos.

I read that later it was a group decision to take the solos out, so that the feel of the album would be the whole band jamming and nobody taking the forefront. I do think that the album would be much cooler if there were solos, though.

lecky 03-04-2005 11:54 PM

yeah i think metallica lost a lot of their substance when they removed the solo's, the album sounds like my band jamming with james singin over it... as lars says it feels "stock". but in turn this is probly what makes me like st anger more than other people

I'mhungryForASandwich 03-04-2005 11:59 PM

st anger is good nu-metal

but nu-metal isnt very good to listen to

6stringslinger 03-05-2005 03:04 AM

Well I finally heard Junglessence the bass solo by Robert Truijo......it is pretty f***** sick!! It is 7:00 minutes long. I like the little part in the middle when Kirk joins in on Orion.
Like I mentioned in the earlier post he did not solo when he was in Columbus,Oh.

I think he is a bad a** bassist. I have damm near have all of his work he did with Infectious Grooves. Want to hear a bad a** song from him check out "Punk it up" by Infectious Grooves he is slapping at lightining speed!! I think he can run circles around Newsted.

He could most likely run circles round Cliff Burton aswell. I'm still convinced Cliff Burton should have been a Lead Guitarist instead of a Bassist....mind you I suppose he gets credited for being an 'Inventive' Bassist now, which he was in fairness.

jaymz_is_god 03-05-2005 06:26 AM

Rob is a great bassist. As was Cliff, but I think it's difficult to compare them beacuse they have very different styles.

Six Foot Revolver 03-05-2005 08:00 AM

Is it just me or is there a discussion on which bassist is better everyday in here?

munky_magik 03-05-2005 08:09 AM
More like compairing bassists, "best" discussions just cause trouble.

all the bassists in metallica had their own time in the base, its not like any of them got kicked out because of arguing; burton was killed in the crash, and as far as i know newsteds left without any arguments or anything, did he just want a change? and now they've got trujillo, but why bother arguing about who was / is better when they have a perfectly good bassist now?

LarsAgi007 03-05-2005 09:03 AM
I doubt they would have let u in. U were probally only 5 or 6 years old.But none the less it's a great concert. It's where i first really started to get into Metallica :)
I know, all the planning that must have gone into Enter Sandman.. I bought it like 7 months ago, and i watched the 1st disk over and over again... Then one day i noticed the second disk lol, i saw enter sandman and was amazed as all these people dropping from the roof lol....
Also, on Motorbreath isnt Kirks guitar, with the blue mercury in it amazing lol

Jason left the band because he was in another project with a band he created called Echobrain... Echobrain got there first gig, and Jaymez hetfield told Jason that he couldnt take his second band to this level because he felt it would affect the Monster of Metallica....
Jason didnt understand why he couldn't play with his other band, and therefore left Metallica to play the gig with Echobrain..
Jaymez said the reason he didnt want Jason to play in echobrain is incase he enjoyed it more than Metallica, anyways i am led to believe that echobrain didnt become much of a success.... I know Jason did try and get back into the band after he had left, but the members said 'No!' he kept being really funny with the band and tryed to get them all down.... But they ended up using Bob Rock as Bass player untill The auditions for bassist was completed, in which Robert Trujillo got :)

I'mhungryForASandwich 03-05-2005 09:29 AM

Personally, I like Jason Newsted the best for Metallica bassist.
