Please go back and include my ninja edit.
:ninja:
 Ninja! |
Hendrix was mostly strongly blues influenced rock. Blues was a big part of rock music at the time. This guy obviously hasen't hear enough Hendrix. Machine Gun, Vodoo Child, Fire, Cross Town Traffic, All Along The Watchtower, and most others are more rock than anything.
*blues artists don't use distorion and a trem bar.
haha, Stevie Ray Vaughan isn't blues? And Machine Gun is more soul than staight rock. Voodoo Chile is blues and if you're talking about slight return, Jimi is playing blues rock, but its blues man. Listen to the lyrics of the song, look at the blues licks he plays during it. Fire, Fire is rock. ROCK. Not Classic Rock. CLASSIC ROCK doesn't exist! Its just rock! What is Classic Rock? What makes something Classic Rock? Its a dumb phrase people throw around. Rock from the 60's. There ya go. In 20 years are the Los Lonely Boys going to be classic rock? When does it end? |

Machine Gun is a rock song, what are you talking about? Rock is a genre of music, classic rock is a specific sect of that genre. Got it? |
Jimi Hendrix IS CLASSIC ROCK. He played blues-ROCK in an era now considered to be CLASSIC. And who the fuck are the Buzzcocks?
The Buzzcocks are not Classic Rock. They are a British Punk Band. My used CD store just had a sale. 7 CDs for $10. Frogwings - Croakin' At Toad's Jeff Healy Band - Feel This Firehose - Mr. Machinery Operator Spin Doctors - Homebelly Groove...Live Porno For Pyros - Good God's Urge Porno For Pyros - s/t The Lemon Heads - Come on Feel |
Classic rock is the type of music that the artist plays. A lot of classic rock was influenced by the blues, but it was still rock. And anyways, an artist or band can be a part of more than one genre. Example: The Doors; they are considered classic rock and psychadelic rock. Actually, I don't think most bands belong to just one genre.
The Buzzcocks were loosely Classic Rock.

Nice deal by the way :thumb: |

Only heard songs from 1 :( |
Machine Gun is a rock song, what are you talking about?
Rock is a genre of music, classic rock is a specific sect of that genre. Got it?
I love the whole of the Band Of Gypsies especially, Who Knows? Such fluid improvisational guitar playing. It's true, Hendrix was God. |
No, classic rock is more general than rock. In classic rock theres blues rock, punk rock, so on and so forth.
|
This is true. Classic rock can be blues rock, country rock, prog rock, southern rock (ot to be confused with country rock), folk rock, hard rock. Lots of types o rock. All classic.

Punk is not an offshoot of classic rock, punk IS, however, a DIRECT offshoot of proto-punk. With bands like: Patti Smith,Iggy And The Stooges, The Velvet Underground(my personal favourite) and the MC5. Go and download songs by these bands, and you'll realise how much punk has came from these bands. |
Okay, okay okay. Here we are arguing about stupid categories that we'd put our favorite artists under. It really doesn't matter that much. I'll categorize them the way I will in my head, and you can do the same for yours. We all have different reasonings and thoughts so what the hell is the use in fighting over it. I believe Ron Burgandy said it best "We'll agree to disagree". Thanks for the adrenaline kick ya get when you argue haha. Cya around.

 I certainly wasn't arguing with you, but if your roots on punk rock are hazy you should check out those four bands. :thumb: :) |
Yeah I don't really know much about Punk Rock, I'll have to check these out thanks.
|
Yeah I don't really know much about Punk Rock, I'll have to check these out thanks.
It's no problem :). You should deffinitley check out The Velvet Underground though. |
What classic rock songs would make good pom routines?
|
What classic rock songs would make good pom routines?
Pom routines? like cheerleading? I don't think anyone in here has ever asked, or even thought of, that question. This is a first. And I have no clue. |
Pom routines? like cheerleading?
I don't think anyone in here has ever asked, or even thought of, that question. This is a first. And I have no clue.
Yes, pom routines are similar to cheerleading, but not the same. I'm a classic rock nut and I want to try and turn everyone at this tiny school on to classic rock :naughty: A lot of people actually come to the basketball games (I don't know why...our team sucks...). I've thought of some possible songs, but I'm not really sure about them. This probably hasn't been brought up before because, well, when you think of poms girls and cheerleaders, you think of girls that like Ashlee Simpson, Dashboard Confessional, dance music, whatever...not classic rock. The times they are a'changin though. ;) |
Well yesterday I was working out, and our cheerleading team was doing a routine to a remix of We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister. They're not really classic rock though, more like eighties glam rock/hair metal or something like that.
You can't really use a lot of Classic Rock songs for stuff like that, unless you wanna remix it (which usually butchers the song). edit- you could try using the remix for Elvis's "A Little Less Conversation." It might work, I dunno if you like Elvis though. |
Rock and Roll Pt. 2. It's all the pom routines you'll ever need.
|
Bleh, stay away from classic rock you pom shaking freak! :p
/me is kidding. Use something by Bon Jovi. |
Mahavishnu Orchestra, discuss.
|
Bleh, stay away from classic rock you pom shaking freak! :p
/me is kidding. Use something by Bon Jovi.
You Give Love A Bad Name was one of my "maybes." |
Mahavishnu Orchestra, discuss.
Billy Boham's cool. He played with Bob Weir in Bobby & The Midnites and was in Jazz is Dead. P.S. My profile picture owns. |
Mahavishnu Orchestra? Remembers hearing that, but it's not registering.
|
Who thinks The Inner Mounting Flame is nothing compared to Birds Of Fire?
|
I've never been interested enough to buy anything beyond Birds of Fire :(
|
The Inner Mounting Flame has flow, but it lacks gems that were on Birds of Fire.
What are your favorite tracks of BOF? Mine are Birds of Fire and Miles Beyond. |
I missed a ****load. That's what I get for not being at my own house.
I like Since I've Been Lovin You, its real bluesy, and that's what I love. Blues. |

I don't know how many times we've discussed Frank Zappa, or if we ever have, but he's awesome. Apostrophe is a great album, listened to it yesterday.
What band are you two talking about? |

What band are you two talking about?
Mahavishnu Orchestra. I love Zappa also. Hot Rats is one of my all time favorite albums. Apostrophe is hilarious, but keeps it's musical ingenuity. |
Those are the two albums of his that I've listened to. My dad has more, but I forget which ones. Zappa's one of his favs.
|
Frank Zappa was an interesting guy...
|
Classic Rock refers to a time period, not a genre.
|
Can anyone send me that Casey Jones song by the dead?
|
Can someone send me "Maiden of Cancer Moon"?
|
Can anyone send me that Casey Jones song by the dead?
I don't have it, but it's on the site. |
Can anyone send me that Casey Jones song by the dead?
