cab impulse it's free, headphone-able and it'll sound... reasonable enough. |
Trust me, any room you will be recording in that you want to block noise out to other peoples bedroom, the acoustics are probably not worth having a room mic.
Just chuck a 57 on it and be done with it ;) Also would you be placing a mic permanently in there? Or making it so you can adjust the mic placement?
I'd mount a goose neck in there so that placement could be adjusted. There are a few companies that have them with permanent, non-adjustable placement, and that's just poor, inflexible design IMO. I mean, what's the point in having the ability to mic a cab if you can't play around with different mice placement? Might as well just use a VST or pedal at that point. |

In playing around last night with some scratch recordings, I've discovered that my Guitar Pro midi files (specifically, the drums) transfer seamlessly into Adobe Audition. Sweet. Now I just have to find my copy of DKFH and I can get something that sounds somewhat realistic.
|
Yes, GP is awesome for writing drums then transferring them.
Now fucker, buy fucking Reaper you fuck. It's like $40 and head and shoulders above Audition. Please, buy it. Now. Or even demo it. Now. |

$60 is nothing for a professional piece of software.
Try the trial version! It's exactly the same as the full version, with a 10 second nag screen on startup. |

A big thing going for Reaper IMO is how stable it is. I've never had it crash except when I've been using a dodgy synthedit VST which I then removed. That's important! It's also very basic looking and easy to navigate - they've ripped out almost all of the bloat. You can run it off a USB stick on another computer if you want! If you have knowledge of almost any other DAW, you should be right at home with its GUI. It's also totally customisable. You can create your own key shortcuts to do pretty much anything you want. There's a lot more beneath the surface, which I'm not experienced enough to really talk about, but the bottom line for me is that it sits up there with the big boys in the DAW industry, and it costs £30 with free updates for 2 full versions. So I don't even feel guilty about using a Cubase hack or something.

Yes what he said.
It's almost free and it's miles above anything else in that price range, basically because anything close to that price is free. In saying that I wouldn't use anything but Pro Tools, but thats just my workflow. If I was just a hobbyist then I'd go with Reaper. At least you're using some legitimate and slowly becoming a new standard. |
Gawd, I want this hot sauce:
http://www.hotsauceworld.com/357maddogcoe.html 600,000 Scoville units. Sounds insane. |

The reviews of hot sauces are always great. Check out some others on that site. There are some horror stories and the occasional "meh i drank a bottle that shit wasnt hot i mix it in my babys formula bottle at night and it puts him to sleep" *4-stars* |
I just bought a sweet new acoustic guitar the other day, a Taylor 210ce. It's the electric/acoustic version, which ended up costing only about $30 more than the straight acoustic because it was used. It would've been over $300 more if it was new. Luckily, I have found no signs of damage or extended use on it, it feels pretty much brand new. Sweet deal. Wamp wamp.

And I saw Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) perform two nights in a row. Pretty much the best thing ever.

He died a while ago. When Raayl posted, I didn't believe it. It wasn't until a month or two ago when chatting with him on facebook that he brought it up. It's pretty messed up. |
I don't really check most of the rest of MX so I didn't see anything about it until now :/ Pretty gay. Raayl's one of the dudes that got himself permabanned haha. You got his Facebook deets? Didn't really talk to him that much I guess but it'd be cool to keep in touch I suppose!
Or yours, for that matter :p |

Lol. Same thing - amazing basses with RHSU in the name. I had a buddy who just went to London for his honeymoon. About how far away is that from you? |
Probably like a 5/6 hour drive or something? Never made the trip so I'm not sure. Sheffield is almost bang in the middle of England though. And I know you guys are used to driving long distances more than we are ;p

Oh yeah, that's some classless shit for sure.
