Just make sure you have around $1000 more than you expect to spend. I thought I was doing well, since I was getting 5 DNK for 1 AUD and 7SEK for 1 AUD, but I got burned by the naturally high prices over there. ($9 US for a burger!)
All of the Scandinavian countries bar Finland still use their version of the Krona. Unfortunately you can't use one type of kronor in another country. :( That means if you're going to only be in Denmark for 3 days, don't convert all your money to Danish kronor in case you get a crappy exchange rate when you get into Sweden/Norway. Also, when I was there, the Danes had the strongest currency. So are you flying into Stockholm, and working your way west? If so, Skåne, the southern part of Sweden, gives discount railway tickets to people under 26, or students (but you have to have an ISIC). And you should consider getting a Scanrail pass, it saves you about 25-40% on most rail tickets, I believe. Also, HI hostels sometimes give temporary membership for a reduced price, which can save you on accomodation, but if you're going to stay with them the entire way through, getting a full membership will work out a lot less expensive. However, in my experience the HI hostels were dearer than some other hostels. If you go to Malmö, I strongly recommend staying at Villa Hilleröd, it's just west of Malmö Central (and the train station) and it's relatively cheap and very comfy. However, most of Sweden (and Copenhagen apparently) don't have public laundromats; weird I know. So prepare to be smelly, or make friends with people who live in houses (apartment blocks have rostered laundry hours and therefore your mates who live there might not be able to accommodate you even if they wanted to). Other than that, just keep an eye out for bargains and buy as much as you can at the grocery stores. Most decent hostels will have a kitchen, unless you're in a town with strange fire codes, and make sure you have a Maxi Burger whilst in Stockholm! Best burgers ever.
Yeah I was thinking I would need to bring about 2000 dollars, but our main plan right now is to mostly explore Sweden, Finland and Norway. I'm not entirely sure on the cost of everything but I shall be doing tons of research before we go. And Sweden turned out to be the cheapest place to fly to, Norway and Finland were a couple hundred dollars more right now. |
Firefox is pretty rad. I've been using it for a few minutes, and I really tell a difference in speed.

Well, Finland are using the Euro now, I never got there but it's pretty cool according to this totally bangin' Finn I met in Hamburg. She also said that Swedish can get you fairly far if you hit a language barrier, so hopefully your 3/4 Norse mate can help out (provided he does speak Norwegian; Bokmål or Nynorsk notwithstanding). How long are you staying over there? I'm really envious, I wish I could go back and do another Eurotrip this winter (summer in Europe). |

I am a longtime FF user. Here's how to speed up FaggotFox:

Open a tab
Go to about:config
Type 'cache' in 'Filter' and hit Return
Find key 'browser.cache.memory.enable' and change it to 'false'.
In a like manner, find 'browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers' and set it to 0. That helps a lot. Right now I am mourning the loss of my beloved 1338 h4x0r fred. :( |
i've done that and it did nothing for me tbh
|
Perhaps if you spent more time thrusting your Freudian prop passionately into the hearts of faggots, your thread wouldn't have been closed.

oh hey that is extremely humorous

If you mother****ing shitty Vista like I am now or have a box with low memory, it does wonders. It's good to do anyway because the lousy-*** memory cache doesn't do anything either way and just eats up a lot of RAM |

We plan on staying around 3 weeks to a month depending on costs and when we have to be back to take care of collage stuff, odds are it will take place in July. |
First order of business for college: learn how to spell college.

It's always good to know a few words of the local language though; enough to say "Please", "Thank you", "Excuse me" and "No, I am not travelling alone, I am waiting for friends and am also heavily armed so please pickpocket someone else". |
He is American, so they'll just assume he's heavily armed.
