Hmm... it sounds intersting to me but i think it really depends on the things you say.. any weirdos in your class who are all scared about emo ****?

ChilltowN 08-30-2006 11:47 PM

True. I say why not.

bottlerocket 08-30-2006 11:48 PM

You gotta know your audience. I bet they wouldn't care.

omg my old band.

EDIT: Do the emo presentation.

Luxor 08-31-2006 12:11 AM

I don't think it's a good idea. All you'll get is a bunch of people saying "wtf, this sounds just like slipknot who cares" or something stupid.

For the majority of people the only genres that exist to them are country, rock, rap, punk and classical. Anything beyond that and they'll have no idea what you're even talking about.

Brain Toad 08-31-2006 01:06 AM

Well it's supposed to informative, so it's fine if they have no idea.

There is quite a few musicially ignorant people in my class, but I know for a fact even if they don't care, they will show interest and support, as it's a requirement for the class to be positive.

I think I'll do it, unless I get a better idea between now and then.

pixiesfanyo 08-31-2006 07:53 AM

I played Pg.99 for a history of punk rock in my class.

Everyone stopped talking to me for a couple days after that presentation.

blizzard 08-31-2006 08:06 AM

Mmmm Probably the wrong place to say this but I think I'm becoming emo

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 08:13 AM

^ Explain. If you say you're listening to Jimmy Eat World and wearing tight shirts then gtfo.

Pete 08-31-2006 08:15 AM

What would be the "correct" explanation? "I'm listening to Envy and getting in touch with my feelings"?

what

Luxor 08-31-2006 08:15 AM

becoming emo lol

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 08:16 AM
What would be the "correct" explanation? "I'm listening to Envy and getting in touch with my feelings"?

what
You can't "be" emo. Emo is a genre of music not a state of being. BTW I don't like Envy and I've always been in touch with my feelings. Please be understanding. :(

Luxor's got it right.

I know, hence my curiosity of why you asked him to explain.

The only kind of music you can become is metal. And possibly hardcore.

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 08:18 AM

I want to see how he explains it. I'm curious as to how he thinks you can "become emo."

I also want a cheap lol on my way to class in a few minutes.

-Gav

Pete 08-31-2006 08:21 AM

I think my explanation was kinda good. I was actually listening to Envy the other day whilst getting in touch with how I feel about asians.

Mostly asian girls though. I feel a slight tingle when I think about them.

blizzard 08-31-2006 08:21 AM

well, I've always sought just been me, very reserved didn't show much emotion.... listening to like hard rock, metal, jazz and what not.

Just over the last couple weeks or so, maybe a little more, I've found I've been much more emotional. One day I was peaking and troughing from being really depressed to being really happy every 15 minutes. I cried once for the first time in ages. Just a few days ago I was feeling down and I cut myself to see what it likes.... I didn't really enjoy it though it actually made me feel better. And also I've been getting into more punk/hardcore/emo type bands senses fail, my chemical romance etc. which normally when I hear I just turn off because I don't like the screaming.... but for some reason they actually made sense to me. As far as fashion I don't dress emo at all really, other than I have a few black shirts.

-Gav
What I meant buy becoming emo is moving more away from mainstream and being more emotional.... I don't think 'becoming' is exactly the right term but I couldn't think of anything better.

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 08:23 AM

^ LOL BINGO THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED ROFL

Gtfo, please, because you have no idea what you're talking about. Read the rules and definitions thread. and stop being a wise ass. Just because you're from the bass forum doesn't mean I can't ban you for trolling.

-Gav

blizzard 08-31-2006 08:33 AM

TBH I don't really see how I'm trolling but yeah that could just be me. And I'm not just saying this because I want to be dickhead or anything everything I said is the truth and like I said I'm not sure whether it was the right place but I just needed to say it.

Pete 08-31-2006 09:05 AM

Because you, just like the millions of confused kids out there like you, seems to think mentioning My Chemical Romance and Senses Fail in this forum is a good idea. If there was a "girly metal"-forum, I'd tell you to take it there, but since there isn't I just wouldn't talk about them at all.

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 09:58 AM

I thought you were joking. :amaze:

Those bands are not emo bands...at all. They are to emo what Nickelback is to metal. Read the rules and definitions thread to get into some emo bands.

http://www.myspace.com/raein
http://www.myspace.com/offminor

And yeah, this is not the right place at all. I back Pete on the "girly metal" forum thing. We should ask J for one.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 08-31-2006 10:16 AM

I feel like shooting myself in the head everytime someone calls something/someone emo. Hence the reason I don't hang out with some people anymore.

bottlerocket 08-31-2006 11:24 AM

Yeah, I hate people. Always have. Always will. I think the majority of people are incredibly selfish and stupid.

I'm a pessimist in every sense of the word. My glass is always half empty.

-Gav

AIRIC 08-31-2006 12:12 PM

Yeah when I hear someone say emo or punk I shudder. Such a sore subject to talk about.

Luxor 08-31-2006 01:30 PM

Doesn't bother me. People can call emo whatever they want. I just refer to actual emo as hardcore. Makes things easier.

cobert 08-31-2006 01:47 PM

No, I used to do this, but then it makes me want to call normal hardcore 'punk'. Its like you have to move all of youre genres around because you want to let people call FFTL emo.

Arrakakaka 08-31-2006 02:30 PM

-Gav
That's the way I think.

I've had that whole emo conversation too many times that I just refer to the genre as emotive hardcore now if I'm with friends. It's been thrown around and trampled to death, and I'm a little tired of it. And the sad part is that I can't do Jack's shit about it.

cobert 08-31-2006 02:45 PM

Thats why were compiling songs for an uber emo history compilation.

whiteminority 08-31-2006 02:51 PM
No I haven't checked out Majority Rule yet, I'll get around to it soon enough.
Do it if you like darker/tad more spastic stuff.

blizzard = my new favorite poster for making me cry laughing.
Do it if you like darker/tad more spastic stuff.
Yeah, i'll check them out. And I just read the whole bit about the guy "becoming" emo, lol. At least when I came in here to find more emo/hardcore/etc. I named good bands. And the first time I saw his post I thought he had a Brokeback Mountain avatar.
