Calexico - Hot Rail

I dunno if this or A Feast of Wire is their best.
i love that album. i really love the last track also because i grew up hearing that train, so whenever i listen to it, it reminds me of tucson.

Supersilent - 6
What a fantastic record. I plan on showing (making her watch) their DVD album, 7, to my girlfriend since I brought it back from home. Her reaction is a true litmus test.

mr_jackalope 11-27-2006 12:24 AM

6 and 7 are like perfect, basically. It sometimes seems to be you and I throwing that fact back and forth in these threads. I wish I had a woman who would even be up for sitting through them, but alas.

I made all of my band members watch 7. It was a good bonding moment.

I myself listened to a whole hell of a lot of Go-Betweens albums today, as well as some Spoon and Triffids.

mr_jackalope 11-27-2006 12:30 AM

I got my sister into the Dismemberment Plan by driving her to school every morning with my tape of E&I stuck in the tapedeck of my truck. I'm sure you're proud.

Eliminator 11-27-2006 12:31 AM

i force people into my car

does that count

mr_jackalope 11-27-2006 12:35 AM

Hey, you've at least gotta agree it's better than that Ben Kweller and Damien Rice BS she listened to before.

Plus also E&I is perfect.

asymm 11-27-2006 12:37 AM
I wish I had a woman who would even be up for sitting through them, but alas.
I'm just aiming for one song, then seeing if she can handle a few more. Worst case scenario, she'll appreciate the visual dynamics and respect the interplay. But hopefully she can enjoy the music as a whole.

Eventually the whole board will shout of Supersilent's greatness. Just a matter of time.

YDload 11-27-2006 12:42 AM

Tom Waits - Orphans
probably the must-hear of the year. i put bawlers on first, i wasn't too impressed, but i thought i'd like it more by what i read. i stopped and started listening to brawlers, and it completely floored me. after 2 songs of brawlers i knew i was a waits fan, and i'm looking forward to listening to the whole album.

Eliminator 11-27-2006 01:01 AM
Mayo Thompson - Corky's Debt to His Father
I'll have to hunt that one down. I like God Bless the Red Krayola etc. but not really enough to put it on my list. But Mayo's cool.

Currently immersed in the holy triumvirate of late 60's, early 70's singer-song writer goofballs that is NilssonNewmanHazlewood.
this is like if GBTRK... had actual songs on it. And notes.

basically, it sounds like upbeat Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
Awesome, sounds more my speed. Any chance for an upload? I'll trade you for some Lee Hazlewood, if you wanna give him a shot.

Anxious 11-27-2006 09:39 PM

M83 and Sonic Youth.

Robert Crumb 11-27-2006 09:44 PM

Lee Hazlewood = the guy who wrote "Some Velvet Morning," all-around awesome country-folk dude. Think Silver Jews, but with more references to giving laundrymen beer.
