Because everyone's confused, a spider riff is like this:

You finger the chords on the 5th and 4th string with your first and third fingers and the chords on the 6th and 5th with your second and fourth fingers, making changing the chords much faster and smoother.

You use all 4 fingers to play two chords, which I illistrated above. The first is done with the first and the third fingers (aka normally) the second is played a fret higher on the string down with the remaining two fingers.

Sup julianne :D Actually It helps loads when playing songs like fade to black (you know the part that is fast in the intro) and other solos that require extensive fingering.

I'm not a guitarist strictly, but when I play guitar (and I took lessons, so I assume its right anyway), for power chords I use my index finger and ring and pinky. Barre chord shape...

I was always told using your index and one other finger was bad form?

I asked gocaps99 for his ages ago, but he hasn't give me it yet. :lol:

A lot of Metallica power chords only use two strings. The root and fifth makes it a power chord, the added octave only makes it sound brighter.

Good call, because control is WAY more important then speed, and i think James rythmic playing actaully holds the pulse their songs rather then Lars drumming.

That might be right, its hard to tell with him cause he just has all four fingers on the fret board and u cant tell how many are hitting which strings. Its so natural to him.

I think that threads are a little like the stocks in the stock market. when something big happenes for metallcia the thread is gonna be busy for a long time...but when nothign is happeneding for metallica nothing is happening in the thread...makes sense right?
The thread will be crazy happening when something happens for metallcia...or we just think of a really good discussion topic. whichever comes first!

Yeah i like that song to. It has good rythm guitar, but my friend, who is a lead guitarist, doesn't even want to try to learn that song because of the 3 solos. I guess i could see why but he won't even try

On the cover song, so what, doesn't it seem like his vocals are forced, because i have a live video of them playing that song and his vocals are fine

Whats so wrong with 3 solos, try and convince him too, there not that hard

Their the opposite of not that hard, i took a stab and my brain hurt so i said bugger it.

Also kirk and james do use their index and pinky, i use my index and ring.
