yeah i still dont agree

imagine trying to explain to a non-fan of extreme metal that hey i like this band but not this one

when the differences are very subtle

that doesnt really help my case or anything, just something to... uhm, imagine
I know what you mean but I would still much rather listen to The Police than Whitechapel

2muchket! 07-22-2008 07:18 AM

Whitechapel are pretty good tho'

They're a lot different to other bands on that genre.

masscows 07-22-2008 07:19 AM

a lot worse, yeah

Dimmu Burger 07-22-2008 07:27 AM

I think they are slightly different, which makes them very different, cause most deathcore bands are not different whatsoever.

2muchket! 07-22-2008 07:41 AM
a lot worse, yeah
fail

i dont know, i would rather eat a bad pizza than good eggs, but i guess thats just me. some people hate bad beer, but i'd rather drink bad beer than good wine. same with music to a certain extent.

to a certain extent.

also, i really like whitechapel so theyre like a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese for me.

Your making the extremely broad assumption that we should enjoy everything within a given genre because that's how it's classified. That in turn assumes we should even like the shitty death metal bands because they're death metal, which is a pretty ****ing dumb opinion to have and explains alot about your taste really.

Squirrel 07-22-2008 10:12 AM
i dont get why fans of extreme metal often list other types of extreme metal as their least favorite genres/bands

i mean, surely whitechapel are better than, say, bryan adams or the police or 3 doors down or zero 7
rather bizarre stance to have on music tbh ..

jrowa001 07-22-2008 10:13 AM

Whitechapel are boring.

anybody like Pleurisy?

Pete 07-22-2008 04:12 PM

no, what i posted (the explanation) explains a lot. idk, i didnt think it needed further explanation.

what i am saying is basically i'd rather listen to someone at least trying to play good music, than someone just playing boring music.

there are of course a buttload of exceptions, but all of this black/white thinking in extreme metal is just for the most part a matter of trend-awareness (something i utterly lack), where youll have two bands who sound the same but apparently the band that has the shortest hair sucks.

masscows 07-22-2008 04:14 PM
where youll have two bands who sound the same but apparently the band that has the shortest hair sucks.
give an example

FallingSnow 07-22-2008 04:15 PM

What I don't understand is how people say that bands like Whitechapel are boring, but if a band gets more technical, then they're boring because all they do is shred. Make up your minds, bloody hell.

masscows 07-22-2008 04:16 PM

???they're boring because they can't write a decent riff or structure a song well

Angmar 07-22-2008 04:16 PM

lmao

Pete 07-22-2008 04:19 PM
give an example
now what would that accomplish? even if i was correct, the right answer would still be to say that one of the bands i listed sucks

masscows 07-22-2008 04:24 PM

I see that argument put forth alot and I think it's a pretty dumb assumption to think people don't like bands because of their hair

Pete 07-22-2008 04:27 PM

yes, i am exaggerating, it's not only about hair, it's also about record label, clothing, make-up (eugh), associated acts, etc. that or "theyre just a ripoff of this awesome band, which makes them the worst band evar!"

this is how i percieve a lot of these controversies anyway, that people seems to be bothered to care about petty little details (ie eliteness and such) that tbh, i just cant be fucked to care about

masscows 07-22-2008 04:28 PM

I just care about level of goodness tbh

Tyler 07-22-2008 04:29 PM

I do think trend awareness plays into it though, just maybe not always to the extent that Pete might be implying (which, by all likelihood, could just be for the sake of the argument).

Pete 07-22-2008 04:29 PM
I just care about level of goodness tbh
me too, at least we can agree upon that :)

i am not saying that any of what im saying applies to you, theyre just general irks i have about (forum) opinions
I do think trend awareness plays into it though, just maybe not always to the extent that Pete might be implying (which, by all likelihood, could just be for the sake of the argument).
pretty much, yes. but thats what public forums are for, amirite?

Malfeitor 07-22-2008 05:58 PM

'about petty little details (ie eliteness and such)'

when we say something is elite, means its good. nothing else. if dimmu borgir were good, they'd be elite. but they're ****. so they're not elite

RiceMonster 07-22-2008 06:00 PM

**** off non good

Angmar 07-22-2008 06:10 PM

so's the new kota

Deth 07-22-2008 07:18 PM

I heard a new Knights of the Abyss song a while back, and while it wasn't offensively bad like their older stuff, it was boring as all hell.

C.O.A. 07-22-2008 08:49 PM

gtfo non elite

Dies Irae 07-22-2008 08:51 PM

sadistic motives that is very different from sadistic intent

C.O.A. 07-22-2008 09:07 PM

i know right?

Malfeitor 07-23-2008 03:24 AM

'so in disgrace of my father after 5 years of listening to death metal' - are you trying to say you're rebelling against your oppressive (probably zionist) parents? a true Hessian you are!

Stevie IV 07-23-2008 03:51 AM

wah wah wah
