I find them pretty pretentious.
In what way? I always hear this, but I never really see how. I'd just like an explanation, or an example.

Moses 10-05-2005 09:39 PM

I think the lyrics are very well put together. If you wanna hear pretentious listen to Meshuggah. It's like he's doing it to test his vocabulary. I love Meshuggah and their lyrics but I was just making a point.

I don't think the lyrics are pretentious, since they're mostly about things that you talk about in highschool philosophy.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-05-2005 09:45 PM

Vortex, currently of Arcturus has written some pretty pretentious-sounding stuff on their latest album, Sideshow Symphonies. He's a Norwegian guy, so of course english doesn't come naturally, but it's as if he tried to sound like he had the vocabulary of a college english prof, but ended up sounding like someone randomly searched Webster for cool sounding words and wrote a song with them. :p

I love the album, but the lyrics are just a little odd-sounding to me. :p

Download "Psychno." It's a song I did in Fruity Loops. I'm really satisfied with the way it turned it, so give it a listen, please. Reply back with some input, too. :)

It doesn't sound like he has a very good grasp on all the spiritual/philosophical stuff he sings about. He also doesn't make a very strong case in his anti-organized religion lyrics, but for some reason a lot of people take him seriously.

Moses 10-05-2005 09:56 PM

Do you know what pretentious means? I'm not trying to insult you but you just discribed somthing like insincere or half-assed.

I like how Blair signs his name above the members of Tool. Like he's important or something.

That's like, the opposite of pretentious. If someone is pretentious, that means that they're always trying to prove how they are superior to you, in a way that they are superior. Dream Theater are definitely a pretentiously technical band at times. "Hey, let me wave my dick in your face to show you how much bigger I am than you" type of thing, I guess.

You're wrong though. I'm sure lyricists write about what they know well, and it's you who has little grasp on the lyrics and meanings behind Maynard's lyrics, and Tool's music. :)

Now, listen to my song. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=332764

check out Psychno

Nope. It means it sounds like he is using all those things to try to sound smarter or whatever. Believe me, I know what pretentious means. I just have a hard time articulating what I'm talking about on a message board.

Adam Jones is GOD 10-06-2005 01:52 AM

lol, blair snapped at last.

Ill read the rest of the newsletter now

denboy 10-06-2005 10:10 AM

I found the newsletter to be very amusing, I actually read it all, even though I knew that nothing "interesting" would be in there

clearvision 10-06-2005 10:48 AM

That newsletter is brilliant. Was quite a funny read. Anyone gonna make anything of all the cooking they are doing?

ThePatient 10-06-2005 10:49 AM

I feel I just wasted a big chunk of my day reading that newsletter.

In more interesting news, I just turned 18, like 10 minutes ago. Who wants pr0n and cigarettes?

clearvision 10-06-2005 10:54 AM

Haha still no beer.

I think info will be released on oct 12th, so quit whining bichez.

can you find out some more info on that Opeth concert for me. My girl wants to see if shes gonna need the day off of work or not.

ThePatient 10-06-2005 11:04 AM
Haha still no beer.
Meh, I don't drink or smoke, so its no big loss.

And here's the Opeth information, all you have to do is check Ticketmaster for this kind of stuff. And, unforunately, they're unavailable.

kurrpt 10-06-2005 11:09 AM

ill call them today and see if they are still available. according to that they are still on sale

ThePatient 10-06-2005 11:11 AM

I know, stupid internet. Philly is too far for me to drive just to get tickets. :upset:

im about 1.5 or less hours from philly

ThePatient 10-06-2005 11:20 AM

In Maryland. About 70-80 miles from Philidelphia.

Mitchell Royce 10-06-2005 11:21 AM

Hey, at least Blair didn't mention his poetry this time. To me, this is probably the best newsletter in about a year.

kurrpt 10-06-2005 11:22 AM

so do you think i could still get 2 tickets?

they are prolly sold out of some sections, but i find it hard to believe theyd sell out an opeth showt that fast

Adam Jones is GOD 10-06-2005 11:23 AM

Its great, its like all the little jokes ppl in this thread make up compilled in a big rant.

I wonder if any Tool elitists wil buy any of it, or try and interpret too much.

And im seeing Opeth again now, just tying to get a 3rd ticket for my friend who thought it was safe to wait till he could better afford it. Fool

denboy 10-06-2005 11:31 AM

Haha, because of the talk on this page, googlead chose four concert ads

mudvayne420 10-06-2005 12:32 PM

So Blair snapped about the album taking a long time, I guess he doesn't like The Patient. But, i don't care whenever they release it just as long as it lives up to what the band memebers were talking about. If it doesn't(which is 1:1000) then and only then will i be a pissed off son of a bitch.

YouGottaBeCrazy 10-06-2005 01:49 PM

1. Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified.
2. Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious.

He nor his lyrics seem to fit into either one of those definitions. He seems like a very well educated guy, IMO. We all have our opinions, though.

**In the future, there will be robots***

/me hate-mails Tool.
/me hangs self

But seriously, if they don't release the album, or they break up before, ill do bad things that will problably be against some sort or fiscal or monatry rules.

There, that should be fun.

edit: Crap, I ad-blocked the ad boxes, so now I can't see the fruits of my labour.

I think you'll probably have to go to the venue itself to get them. Or a Ticketmaster office somewhere. And the place is General Admission.

We control the internet

Riva 10-07-2005 08:32 AM

Wow. I came into the tool thread, and got Rod Stewart. I love Rod Stewart. Hot Legs is such a great song, and Atlantic Crossing is probably one of my favourite classic rock albums.

In fact: Undertow > Atlantic Crossing > Lateralus > Aenima > AJIG. :-*

Could someone upload that song for me btw? My parents record collection failed me again

um...I know we have our own opinions and all that great stuff, but Undertow is not better than Lateralus or Aenima.

A pig in a cage on antibiotics 10-07-2005 01:19 PM

Oh it feels so good to be back!! i was banned but i've learned my lesson  any way that is a strange opinion HeavyRita your the only person i know who thinks undertow is better than AEnima and Lateralus. im afraid i disagree with you aswell though. Lateralus just can't be beat,ever...unless, the next album is AMAZING!!!

PS can someone tell me how to combine the A and E to type AEnima properly.tanx
