delusions of quality!!!!111
irony at its finest |
some people try to label the late '90s scene that started to combine grind rhythms into the sound as "screamo" i.e. Orchid, Jerome's Dream, etc. i think that is stupid and just label it all emo.
labels suck but are useful with people who know what you mean when you say them. that's the definition i use, and its the one my friends use but in general i just say hardcore. |
yeah, exactly.
|
except ctts is incredible
You need to hear better bands, CTTS are downright mediocre. |
people who say ctts suck or are mediocre are people who jizzed over them inccessently for three years and then since they are popular and they got burned out on them they diss them constantly
|
or people who recognize their overall sucktastic suckness. people need to listen to Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As8rmvtdFBo

this. |
john with hilarious accuracy again!
some people try to label the late '90s scene that started to combine grind rhythms into the sound as "screamo" i.e. Orchid, Jerome's Dream, etc. i think that is stupid and just label it all emo.
damn dude this post made you seem so much smarter. i demand more to this nature! no but, seriously people who try to say that its stupid to label something like orchid as something different than, say, fugazi is mad retarded. screamo's a label like melodic death metal, it's useful as hell when people are looking for recommendations. for instance, if someone says, i'm looking for emo bands like chune, you wouldn't recommend them score one for safety. conversely if someone's like, i'm looking for screamo bands like score one for safety, you wouldn't recommend them chune. note that the use of screamo would imply bands along the line of sofs while emo might imply bands like chune to people. |
ctts are phenomenal, or at least "as the roots undo" is
i'm not saying theyre the best emo band there is or ever was or anything, but that album is 100% solid from start to end |
i like their split with pg. 99 the most of all their material.
|
that, i have not heard. only have the st and the lp
why arent you on msn, i missed you every time you talked to me |
because whenever im on msn and try to talk to people theyre never on and dont message me back until im not on :(
|
yeah well now i am on for a change
|
pure insanity!
|

Nope, never jizzed on behalf of CTTS. |
You just thought they were mediocre right off the bat because they're popular. :p
|
i finally listened to Rites of Spring and Embrace, theyre both really good, but moss icon is so much better
|
Embrace > Rites of Spring > Moss Icon
|
You just thought they were mediocre right off the bat because they're popular. :p
No, they just aren't that good. They have a couple really good songs and the rest is filler garbage. |

untruths in this post |
You CTTS fanboys just can't take the truth. There are way better emo bands out there.
|
there are better emo bands out there, but As the Roots Undo is an amazing album.
Embrace > Rites of Spring > Moss Icon
I haven't heard Embrace, but Moss Icon is better than Rites of Spring, although they're both really good |
As The Roots Undo is only OK imo. Like I said before, I like it and everything, but it's just not as good people make it out to be.
|
question for everyone
what defines the difference between emo and screamo? Or do you consider the classifications to be exactly the same? |
Screamo has a grindy influence. Pretty simple, really. It's better to just say emo or hardcore.
|
They're interchangeable in a lot of instances anyway, I think.
|
Most of the time, yes.
|
not all screamo is grindy though. like there's some progressive screamo (that indie scenesters tag as post-rock) like Envy and Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson.
but both emo and screamo has evolved a lot. there's a difference between I Would Set Myself on Fire for You and uh Swing Kids, just like there's a difference between Rites of Spring and Mineral. but still there's no denying that the first two are screamo and the latter two emo. |
You mean like, post-rock influenced screamo like Envy and Score One For Safety?
I can see interchanging that stuff with post-rock TO BE HONEST. |

screamo's a pretty valid term, its no worse than melodic death or future trance.
|
It's an unnecessary term, really.
|
not really.
like i said before, theres definite distinctions between things like chune, texas is the reason, etc. and say, orchid, in/humanity, etc. it's as much of a difference as like, suffocation to arghoslent. |
I wuv Texas Is The Reason!
|
lol
|
Seriously, I listen to Do You Know Who You Are? all the time.
|
its gud albumz
|
Really good, I love the title track.
|
lets get back to the issue at hand
yes, mr retiredat21, as the roots undo is every bit as good as its built up to be. it is, from the moment the album starts until it finishes, nigh flawless. your ears have probably been permanently damaged by the drugs you partake in the use of :( |
