DWJK 01-12-2006 05:15 AM

Its a subjective call. No ones ever going to be right

Everyone who likes Darons voice is going to say he's suited for SOAD

Everyone who hates his whinyness is going to say he should just play guitar because that's his role

This dicussion is endless

Anthem 01-12-2006 01:26 PM

Agreed.

mbrinton138 01-12-2006 04:45 PM
But Serj is the singer.
There have been countless bands were the drummer/bassist/guitarist wrote songs and didn't sing them.If I recall soads lineup is
Serj Tankian-Vocals
Daron Malakian-Guitar
Shavo Odadjian-Bass
John Dolmayan-Drums
And it should stay that way :smash:
acually its:
Daron Malakian - Guitars/Vocals
Serj Tankian - Vocals/Keyboards
Shavo Odadjian - Bass
John Dolmayan - Drums

see see, Daron is first...I shat you not, look in the jacket!

But personally, the only signer who truely fits with SOAD is P.Diddy,

Blank 01-12-2006 04:53 PM

>_<
Guitarist get enough credit.
I prefer Shavos ball squeezing high pitched voice

Slipknotz_M 01-12-2006 04:55 PM

does anybody miss old classic System like Spiders?

Blank 01-12-2006 05:01 PM

Yes.

mbrinton138 01-12-2006 05:11 PM

No. If I wanted to hear Spiders I can, it didnt go anywhere...its down the hall in my room.

MrJack 01-12-2006 08:25 PM

It's rather hard to miss Spiders when I play it everyday.

Now that we are all over the Daron thing(he's good, he writes, he sings, he needs to grow that beard back!), lets look towards the future. They should be heading out to tour agian. What are some MUST hear songs you guys....well....must hear  Me? Well......

Spiders
Forest(my favorite song)
Streamline(my second favorite song)
Thetawaves(I wish)
Chic'N'Stu(I wish...but they will probrably never play this agian  )
Radio/Video(I wish agian)
cuBERT(Im still wishing)
Highway Song(^^^^)
Dreaming
Solider Side Outro
Tentative

Basically, I would like to hear what they never/hardly play because its all so good. And some new stuff of course.

MetallifuX 01-12-2006 09:11 PM

Blank 01-13-2006 12:05 AM

Peephole
Sugar

Attack
Revenga

PepsiMetal 01-13-2006 12:45 AM
serj plays the guitar in some live songs........
Yea I've seen him play small parts in aerials. He plays lots of keyboard though.

Blank 01-13-2006 01:04 AM

Any song with keys is done by Serj.
Notice how Daron starts singing and suddenly soad has tons more songs with synth? :smash:

PepsiMetal 01-13-2006 02:47 AM

Daron uses that electronic thing (not sure what it's called) and makes his voice sound robotic. I saw it in a video they did at download festival 05. It sounded pretty cool, but serj's vocals are unbeatable by daron.

Tele_Dude 01-13-2006 01:36 PM

Now that Daron is writing more lyrics, and is singing more, Serj is writeng more music. Serj wrote Question! and Vicinity of Obcenity, which are in my opinion two of the best songs on Mezmerize/Hypnotize. You all complain about Darons singing, but I totally understand him. He does this for the band, and for himself. If his voice sounds like **** in a song, he'll shut up. If his voice makes the song better, he'll sing.

I understand him when he says that it's hard to let someone else sing something that you have created, your own ****ing feelings. Serj wrote lyrics/sang on S/T, Serj/a little bit of Daron wrote lyrics/sang on Toxicity, Daron/a little bit of Serj wrote lyrics/sang on Mez/Hyp.

Maybe Shavo will write lyrics and sing on the next record, and maybe John will play flute. You never know with these guys, thats why I love 'em.

System of a Down is my second favorite band (next to Avenged Sevenfold). Every Album they whip out surprises that no1 can comprehend. People call some of their songs "fillers", but i personally think each song has their own meaning. SOAD ROCKS! People are mad that they went "Mainstream". who cares?! they have their very own sound unlike those gay emo bands like Panic! and Fall Out Boy. My one problem with this band is that the bass parts should be better, i can only hear it in a few songs, and its pretty much a few notes.

If i could possibly name my top 10 fav songs they would prolly be (not in any order):
Needles
Holy Mountains-the BEST song known to man
Tentative
CUBErt
Sugar
Prison Song
Atwa
This Cocaine Makes me feel like im on this song
Viscinity of Obscinity
Soldier Slide

PepsiMetal 01-14-2006 03:44 AM

bounce pogo bounce pogo pogo pogo

lol, that song is funny as hell. Especially when they do it live.

Iron Pantallica 01-14-2006 04:37 AM

hey i really like system and i hav toxcicity and mezmerize, could any1 tell me if they hav a live cd

Rise Against1337 01-14-2006 10:59 AM

to my knowledge, they do not have a specific "live" cd, but you can buy the s/t album special edition (its red) and u can get some live songs. Also, if you reserved a copy of hypnotize when it came out, ur copy came with one or two live songs.

banana banana banana terracotta banana terracotta terracotta pie!

Skit 01-14-2006 11:03 AM

^
Reserved copies of Hypnotize came with a Lithograph but NO live songs.

There isnt an official live CD but you can find lots of live bootlegs about, Check out lowlands, thats one of the most widely avaliable shows and its a pretty sweet show aswell :thumb:

mbrinton138 01-14-2006 12:28 PM

the best Ive seen is either BDO 02' or Rock Am Ring. They were so cool, Daron stage dives on the first song at Rock Am Ring.

DaveTheAmazing 2.0 01-14-2006 12:41 PM

Any news on the next single?

Blank 01-14-2006 12:42 PM

Isn't it like, since it's a double album they can have the next single be from mez or hyp?

I always thought revenga would be a single...

xrockerachickx 01-14-2006 07:23 PM

Did Anybody See The Interview They Did With Fuse? On The Show Uranium?

Blank 01-14-2006 07:30 PM

Yes.

xrockerachickx 01-14-2006 07:31 PM

so ur opinion: did they act totally awesome, or was Daron a kind of an azz whole?

Blank 01-14-2006 07:48 PM

Bleh.
I thought it was hilarious.I just wish Shavo talked more. That ****ing stoner.

xrockerachickx 01-14-2006 07:59 PM

lol yeah huh?
i was crackin up at it, and Julya was pissed man!
Daron laughs a lot, and funny too.
then Serj was just like going with the flow haha

Blank 01-14-2006 08:12 PM

Daron AND Serj are hilarious.
John is smart and Shavo is quiet.

It was all funny but I liked the 2002 interview better.Serj had his awesome hair and beard back then.

mbrinton138 01-15-2006 01:47 AM

The next solo is being said to be 'Lost in Hollywood"

^^ i agree completely. I subscribe to modern drummer magazine, and they did this interview with John, and he was completely serious the whole time. Definately not the SOAD styel. But he's a good guy. I just wish they interviewed the whole band in that article, that wouldve been good

Blank 01-15-2006 12:00 PM

I think I read that. They had him test out a kit right?

Yeah he says his biggest musical influence is his dad,a saxaphone player.
I take it he's pretty serious about everything, ala never smiling while drumming.(Says it'll throw him offbeat)

Rise Against1337 01-15-2006 04:13 PM

yeah, that was the same article. I personally think that its good that SOAD has one serious guy in the band. It gives a little balance, i suppose

PepsiMetal 01-15-2006 06:01 PM

Yea John kicks ass. I love his drumming style too though.

Blank 01-15-2006 06:23 PM

The great thing about John is that he drums for the song.
He never does anything that he doesn't have to.
