Start out with some Death, Quo Vadis, Gorguts, and Cryptopsy.

You can go deeper into the genre once you listen to some basics.

I'm not a death metal expert, but try:

Morbid Angel
Obituary
Necrophagist
Death
Psycroptic

LeperAffinity 04-30-2005 07:58 AM

I don't think Cryptopsy is for someone looking to get into the genre, as it's not the most accessible thing in the world. I'd recommend Death, Possessed, Vader, Morbid Angel, Arghoslent, and Arsis.

beaNN 04-30-2005 09:39 AM

Morbid Angel are always good :)

I was started out on Cryptopsy, Atheist, Cynic and Gorguts, and I like to think I turned out okay.

I actually think Cryptopsy are a good band to introduce people to death metal with; even if they hate the drumming because 'it's all just fast and pointless', you can at least impress upon them just how amazingly fast it is, and even if they dismiss the vocals because 'they're all just stupid growling', you can at least get them to see how impressive Lord Worm is. And that often seems to lead to liking the band later on.
Can anyone recommend some songs that build up to a climax?
Anyone?

3rdplanet 04-30-2005 12:09 PM

Staying Alive - Cursive is all that pops to mind right now.

posessed, if you do research on them and understand my avatar you'll know why.
Start off with Dark Side Of The Moon, then get Wish You Were Here. If you like them, get Animals and The Wall, and then The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Meddle. After that, buy them in just about whatever order you feel like, as those are generally regarded as their best albums.

I think Ride The Lightning and Kill 'Em All would be thought of by most people as their next two best albums, although some people would say that The Black Album is as good. Everything after that has been progressively more disappointing, although you might want to pick up S&M.
Alright, thanks a lot bro

how about some napalm death recommendations? i'm gonna get something of theirs soon, just don't know what!

Dude3 04-30-2005 05:14 PM

Alrighty. I'm going to order a The Mars Volta cd later. I'm planning on getting De-Loused in the Comatorium.
I'm also going to get a Judas Priest album, but my mind is not totally made up yet. I'm choosind between:
Sad Wings Of Destiny
Screaming for Vengeance
and maybe, Painkiller
Any reccomendation would be appreciated.

Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness - Green Carnation

Dude3 04-30-2005 07:02 PM

Anybody?

progdrumman 04-30-2005 07:33 PM

Dude, listen to Symphony X, Dream Theater, Kamelot, Angra, Evergrey, Adagio, Nevermore, or Nightwish. They are all awesome. If you pick only one to give a listen to... go w/ Sym X.

Bartender 04-30-2005 07:34 PM

That isn't what this thread's for. Unless you're answering someone in particular and just haven't quoted them.

There's a Napalm Death thread floating around... check it out.

It basically says Scum is their classic grind album, get it.

Dude3 04-30-2005 07:58 PM

Man, I'm having a tough time deciding on which Judas Priest album to get.
I decided to order Testament's-The Legacy, and I may pre-order the new System of a Down Cd, but the Judas Priest selection is killing me.
I'm now deciding between Sad Wings of Destiny, and Screaming for Vengeance.

mypinkiehurts 04-30-2005 08:02 PM

Can anyone suggest some good Judas Priest songs?

I appreciate the list of songs. From what I have heard of these bands they are wonderful. I will have to spend my night downloading these other songs.

Now if someone could recommend some Yes. All my classic rock/prog rock friends have recommend them but I have only heard one song.
