Dark Suns = Most similar band to Opeth in terms of genre I've ever heard. Every should check them out if they can be found.
Really? Sounds interesting. Links, or yousendit mp3s available?

Grey Incision 02-25-2005 12:47 AM
"Bleak" is my favorite all-around, with "The Moor" probably at a tie. "Blackwater Park" best for the heaviest. "Benighted" for best acoustic guitar. "Black Rose Immortal," "Windowpane," and "A Fair Judgement" for the most complex, cool melodies and harmonic content.
i agree except with your decisions on the most complex song, you have heard benighted, so i would assume you've jeard Still life. If so, you should hopefully know that songs like Moonlapse Vertigo and Godhead's lament own for complexity, and serenity painted death AND white cluster, the whole album is by far their most complaex

ArcLite 02-25-2005 12:52 AM

I agree with most stated as well, but I really don't consider BWP the heaviest. Just to name one I'd say Demon of the Fall is heavier than BWP.

opeth_oasis 02-25-2005 01:02 AM

yes demon is heavier, i'd say that leper affinity is a pretty complex song, but thats only coz i luv it so much

whatduffhuck7 02-25-2005 06:56 AM

i love how there songs are long. i hate when theres a song that you love but its like 1:30 theres a soulfly song like that. i love it so much but its so short. not with opeth. i love it

Deth 02-25-2005 09:01 AM

Seems a US tour is definite for this summer. Makes for a very happy me :) .

Quebec 02-25-2005 09:22 AM

Hey guys, I just got into Opeth with the following songs:

Bleak
The leper affinity
Blackwater Park
The moor
Weakness
Wreath
In the mist she was standing

What's next?

Deth 02-25-2005 09:35 AM

in my n00b opinion:

The Drapery Falls
The Funeral Portrait
The Apostle in Triumph
Forest of October

Those are the ones from the two albums I have, the others will help more.

it doesn't really matter

download any song, buy any album by Opeth, all are great.
this is no joke, Opeth has never released anything that didn't live up to their standards.

but anyways a few of my faves:

to bid you farewell
in my time of need
black rose immortal
dirge for november
blackwater park (both song and album :p)
demon of the fall
deliverance
the drapery falls
master's apprentices
Godhead's lament

man, Opeth has too many good songs :p

oh, and if you have the money check out the Lamentations dvd, it's awesome

enjoy ;)

Deth 02-25-2005 07:44 PM

told you they would do a better job than I would.

Deth 02-25-2005 07:45 PM

hey 2stranger, what do you think about orchid? I noticed you didn't list any songs from it.

You started with some very good songs. I recommand :

The Drappery Falls
Demon of the Fall
Serenity Painted Death
Master's Apprentice
Harvest
Windowpane
Deliverance
April Ethereal

Or you could just listen to random songs, they are all great.

opeth_oasis 02-25-2005 08:57 PM

Darkness 02-25-2005 09:36 PM

opeth_oasis 02-25-2005 09:39 PM

evil ernie 02-25-2005 11:12 PM
I read that they want to..that'd be amazing..I hope they come to Canada!
I guess they will. They came here 3 times in about 2 years.

Darkness 02-25-2005 11:14 PM

But I wasn't aware of their awesomeness then..so they have to come again :)

BradyEB 02-25-2005 11:39 PM

opeth_oasis 02-26-2005 05:54 AM
hey 2stranger, what do you think about orchid? I noticed you didn't list any songs from it.
I think Orchid is a great album, even though I dislike his vocals, compared to now.

but I really love the album
favorites form Orchid:

in the mist she was standing ( but he already named it)
silhouhette
forest of october
the apostle in triumph.

I like Mikeal's demonic like vocals more.
but the guitar playing ( the twin guitars were awesome on orchid, and especialy Morninng rise)

Grey Incision 02-26-2005 07:52 PM

http://www.geocities.com/mjareviews/opeth.html

that person has a lot of balls to insult The lyrical content of Opeth and to knock the sound from the Orchids album.

Just my opinion people, it's just mind boggling how Opeth's lyrics can appear stupid.

opeth_oasis 02-26-2005 07:58 PM

*loads gun*, that guys gonna get a piece of my mind

Grey Incision 02-26-2005 08:06 PM

ahahaha, well, listening to Ayreon has me in a no violent mood, Marcela Bovio's voice is amazing

opeth_oasis 02-26-2005 08:08 PM

haha yeah im in a violent mood, i just listened to every RATM album

opeth_oasis 02-26-2005 08:12 PM

Det_Nosnip 02-26-2005 08:14 PM
ahahaha, well, listening to Ayreon has me in a no violent mood, Marcela Bovio's voice is amazing.
**** yeah. Have you checked our her band, "Elfonia"? They're decent...kinda trippy prog rock. Also, she plays the violin, which is only a plus. ;)

Grey Incision 02-26-2005 08:22 PM

nah, haven't, Australia is extremely poor for artistic music such as Opeth, Ayreon etc. I really want to check out Mostly Autumn as well, Heather findlay has an awesome voice too. This Ayreon album is opening new doors for me.

Brady EB: Are you from N.Z as well?
I've already stated I'd love to see Opeth cross the ditch to play at least one show in New Zealand. If it was in Auckland, hell if it was in Timaru I'd be there.
