I own and love both Fantomas and Delirium Cordia; I've not heard anything from The Director's Cut, but I know all about the concept of it. Basically I'm expecting something more song-like than the others, and also not a little creepy.
Fantomas - Rosemary's Baby - 3:20

Well, the creepiness is fulfilled in the first few seconds. Like a twisted nursery rhyme, Mike Patton's high-pitched la-la-la-ing comes in over tinkly glockenspiel background music. Soon settles into more traditional band-like structure; the guitar playing in the background (low, slow and ominous), and the drums dnk and tish quietly, while Patton continues lalala-ing in his regular (if, indeed, he can be said to have a regular) voice.

Carries on more or less like this for quite a while, though with the guitar growing louder, before it all comes to head around the 1:00, as Patton changes his vocal patterns, and the guitar actually starts riffing.

Back into the lalalaing, just with this riffing, and more determined drumming behind it. Around 2:00, the Lombardo really starts pounding the drums, with incredibly quick fills, and Patton goes a little more spastic with his vocals. Even more sickly sweet (sweeter than before I mean) lalalaing comes in after this (when the song calms down a bit) along with actual samples of distressed baby noises.

It finished more like an actual song, with something of a riff (!), over which Patton sings words (!!). And it comes to an abrupt stop like that.

8.5/10 Sorry for the short review, there was really quite little to go on, I think. Good song though.

I never do, but I usually try to include at least one out of fairness since it is in R&M forum.

Faith No More - Edge of the World

I had heard very little music from Faith No More. The only song I can recall hearing was “Epic” :p. However, I do own two Mr. Bungle albums. So, I am not very ignorant to the ways of the Mike Patton.

The track opens with pop like scatting and snapping, most likely to be funny or odd. Drums, piano and a bass enter, each supporting Patton’s lead vocals well, while occasionally taking a couple of lead lines. Patton’s vocals are so far nicely done, and the bass playing really sticks out to me. The song is slow and has a Jazz lounge sound to it, minus parts of the chorus. There is a back up vocalist, occasionally unnoticeable. Possibly because it is just Patton’s vocals stacked.

After awhile of the same routine the pianist plays a small solo. Nothing really extraordinary, and he seems to stick to the same lines, but good. A horn player adds in. I believe it is a saxophone. The song slowly fades out.

Pretty good, and not what I was expecting.

7/10

Widespread Panic - Blue Indian

Never heard of these guys and to be honest I was expecting some heavy stuff, due to the bands title, however the songs name Blue Indian made my ponder, Turns out that its almost country music, two contributing factors to this are the bassist playing just about a walking bassline, and the singer just reminds me of a country singer.

Starts of with a nice clean chord progression on guitar. The drums then come in for a measure, then followed by keys and bass, and this is where the country sound does developed and then topped off by the singer. Its very chilled and relaxed, little key runs throughout the verse which are nice.

Pre-Chorus and the bassline changes and the singer sings a bit more abruptly, and the guitars sound uses a little bit of staccato in their chord progression.

Then into the chorus and it runs smoothly similar to the start. And their is backup singers which don't really impress me. Sounds like there is a flute or something at [01:59].

It then exits into a guitar solo, which meshes really well with the song, very slow and relaxed. Using tonality as a key, its very nice.

The singer then comes in with a more raspy 'effect' and the keys also get a more noticable part. It all sounds really nice. This then resolves into a similar part as the verses.

The back up vocals sort of chill it out again and the instument I can put my finger on, I don't think it is a flute, it just adds to the music.

Ending with a slow band stabs and then together on a fadeout.

As previously mentioned this was not what I expected. However I did enjoy it, their weren't any standout musicians however having said that they all seemed to be decent. The vocalist got annoying in the end but it wasn't too bad.

Final Verdict -

8.5/10

My Recommendations:

Incubus - Follow - 1st Movement of the Odyssey

Starts of with some guitar an humming, sounds like worship music, at 0:26 drums come in, now it sounds more like metal.
Is this Incubus?? Unlike any stuff I’ve heard before.
Very folky sound right now.
1:06 some choir like humming, and some nice bass underneath, and a catchy drumbeat.
1:43 some feel good singing and guitar playing, quite catchy
At2:07 some more folky like music.
You must have uploaded the wrong file, but it says incubus nonetheless, this is so not incubus like in my book
3:00 a short techno interruption.
3:33 a folky solo., nice
After the solo, the humming starts again, and with that the song ends.

Wow, weird, is this incubus too?
I liked the humming and folk parts, and the rest too, although I carried on a bit too long IMO

Good song:

Pain of Salvation - Fandango

This song starts with classical sounding that gradually gets fast then a keyboard comes over the guitar. At 0:47 the vocals come in with a low moaning voice. At 1:07 the singing changes to a sharp, carefull voice. Throughout this song the singing is almost like a choir and it sets the mood for the song. In what I'm pretty sure is the chorus there is a very nice sounding guitar riff under the singing. The keyboards sound very nice throughout this song.

Overall this is a very interesting song, it's pretty slow burning but it's still very good. I especially liked the vocals in this song the singer is very talented

7.5/10

My Picks:
Himsa - Rain to the sound of panic
The Haunted - All Against All

Please tell me if you need them uploaded

The Haunted - All against All

Band starts off with an in your face heavy sound. about 30 seconds in the singer enters, screaming hardcore, The band has a punkish sound to me, but almost death metal at the same time. Basic heavy guitar riffs, and the hard hitting drums make this song attractive to me. whoa, change up at about 2:30, change in vocals, somewhat clean(well a lot cleaner compared to how hard he was singing before) I like it. Complements well with the band at that moment, bass line is cool there. 3:15 clean vocal scream blended into a hardscream, *bam!* guitar solo, that was cool, not too long not too short, just right. 3:38 cool guitar solo over, vocals are hard again, back to original guitar riff. song is sounding like it's winding down....4 minutes 33 seconds later the song is complete.

This song was good to me. I liked the change up with the clean vocals, it wasnt the same the whole time, instrumentally and vocally. Good song overall, but I could tell the hardcore screaming would get old with me after a while.
I have never heard anything before by The Haunted, so because I liked this song to a degree, I will check some more stuff by them. Rating: 7.5/10.
Any other recommendations by The Haunted would be nice.

My Songs:

Change ~ by Blind Melon (hippie rock, post-grunge era)
Pink Riots ~ by Dog Fashion Disco (Circus Metal, well thats what I call it)
or

since no one else is dibs on blind melon

Change - Blind Melon

This song starts off with a good sounding accoustic part that carries through the whole song.
At 0:11 a harmonica comes in adding a cool effect to the song.
At 0:27 very nice soinding vocals come in
At 1:10 there is a guitar solo using a slide(maybe) and the drumming comes in and the song starts.
At 2:14 theres a sweet guitar solo
At 2:56 the song starts to wind down, getting close to the end

Overall this song is a very good song from a very talented band. The best things are the vocals and the guitar solo.

9/10
