It's played in 6 different keys, too.
argh.... i have to learn more theory. yesterday i met my guitar teacher again and we talked about music, guitar, cob and next week i will take some lessons again.
... at least i want do understand whats going on in songs.

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 06:04 AM

I'm taking Music Fundementals in the fall. It's beginning theory. It should be fun.

I honestly don't want to learn an extensive amount of theory.

I'd rather play what I feel, not be a robot.

Just like, how many minutes in my life have I spent learning about time sigs?

0.

Can I play fine in most? Sure. I just listen to the song and play w/e til I have it. I don't need a couple numbers telling me "do this".

I've always been fine doing it too. Listen to the song. How hard is that?

Apocalyptic Raids 07-01-2006 06:19 AM

I don't really like theory. I understand how it is useful, but I don't really have the patience for it.

I know a bunch of scales etc and I'm fine with that.

With my teacher I either learn a song or we do some improvising stuff.

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 06:24 AM

I guess I have it good then. I can learn theory stuff pretty quick and easy. I love using theory.

blue3 07-01-2006 06:26 AM

ugh theory. I learned a lot of scales last week but half of those I don't even remember now.

repcak 07-01-2006 07:24 AM

i think i will buy (together with my DXMG) a Digitech RP-80 guitar processor, link

what do you say to this digitech? any better recommendations? it shouldn't cost more than 80Euro, and my guitar teacher uses the same. well, the most important thing is that it has a drumcomputer (and yes, effects too :p ).

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 07:33 AM

Effects are lame.

I have excellent tone. A few days ago I cracked the secret to tone. lol. I lowered the gain just a bit, lowered the dept of the distortion and raised the treble a tad.

Now it's thick, heavy and totallly awesome.

repcak 07-01-2006 07:50 AM

yeah, but you will get only a good tone with an good amp - i have a marshall mg 15 cdr.

and one of the things i hate is the monotone "click" of my metronome... i hate it. so a drumcomputer would be a great help for me!

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 07:56 AM

I need a good amp, but first I need a larger room.

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 08:04 AM

I have a Marshall. I love it. It's just a matter of figuring it out. Finding a heavy as hell yet smooth tone.

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 08:07 AM

I'll probably get a Marshall too, but my focus is on my technique. Good playing can shine through a crap amp so that's what I'm aiming for.

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 08:11 AM
I'll probably get a Marshall too, but my focus is on my technique. Good playing can shine through a crap amp so that's what I'm aiming for.
So you think it's a wise idea to get a crappy amp, so you need to work harder?

That makes no sense.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-01-2006 08:13 AM

I think he meant that his technique takes priority over the quality of his equipment.

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 08:16 AM
I think he meant that his technique takes priority over the quality of his equipment.
I got that part. I mean, no matter how polished you are/want to be; you'd want a great amp.

orrr...maybe that's just me.

If it sounds wayyy better, than it's more enjoyble to play/hear, therefor I'll work harder and play more

repcak 07-01-2006 08:29 AM

maybe i will buy a new amp in october/november, but i don't want to get a marshall amp.
it should be good enough to play small gigs - maybe 80watt or something like that.

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 08:31 AM
I think he meant that his technique takes priority over the quality of his equipment.
Yeah exactly.

I don't need an amp, I don't have enough for an amp, so I'm not going to work my arse off just to get an amp, because I make sure my playing sounds good through the one I have at the moment. As soon as I have enough for decent one, I'll probably get one unless there's something else that's more important, obviously.

repcak 07-01-2006 08:45 AM

Mitch has the right philosophy!

most guitarists forget that you make music through your four fingers on your left hand and your two fingers on the right hand, which hold the pick (abstract) - music is made by your finger movement, not about your equipment.

a friend is buying always the best equipment he can get. his first guitar cost over 1,300Euros and his first amp was a marshall 100watt.
my first guitar 250euro, first amp 200€ and i'm still the better guitarist :p

equipment doesn't make you better, practise does

NP: Ravel - Bolero

I'm Charming 07-01-2006 08:55 AM

What's so hard to grasp?

A better amp sounds better. Therefor more enjoyable to play.

A nicer guitar plays, feels and sounds better. Therefor more enjoyable to play.

repcak 07-01-2006 09:10 AM

more enjoyable, yes! But it doesn't make you a better guitarist

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 09:19 AM

Haha I know someone who's like your friend repcak. He's had 3 guitars, has a full keyboard and now has a full £500+ TAMA drum kit. I'm better than him on all 3 instruments and all my equipment probably comes under £1000.

Gtr 1 and amp - £100
Gtr 2 - £300
Gtr 3 - £300
KORG PX4 - £100

There, £900, and that's not a lot really.

repcak 07-01-2006 09:30 AM

nice to know, that we have the same kind of friends :D

what kind of guitars do you have exactly?

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 09:33 AM

1st - some crappy strat copy
2nd - BC Rich Warlock, 2003 Body Art series - Fleshring
3rd - Ibanez RG770, which I'm using now to record a Satch song.

gillygan 07-01-2006 09:44 AM
I hate playing with lots of gain.

I also hate scooping the mids. I think the mids add chunk to the sound.

I usually do
Bass: 5
Mids: 7
Treble: 9
Gain: 4

MRDuCran 07-01-2006 09:53 AM

Alexi only has his gain on around 4-7 too, you can hear it on say that intro riff to "Downfall", or the single note in "Children of Decadence" or the "Children of Bodom" riff.

Also he has higher mids and lower bass. At least that's what it sound like on Follow the Reaper.

repcak 07-01-2006 10:21 AM

i don't even have "mids", i only have a contour... or is it the same?

Shadows 07-01-2006 10:31 AM

His Follow the Reaper tone had no bottom end. Hate Crew Deathroll has the greatest guitar tone I've ever heard - nice and trebly but chunky with plenty of mids.

same thing.

I hate no mids.

Yeah I think HCDR has the best guitar tone too.

repcak 07-01-2006 12:05 PM

for me FTR has the best guitar tone

Moses 07-01-2006 12:14 PM

I think HCDR has a pretty good tone. I still don't like the fact that it's pretty much distortion all the time, it ruins the dynamics for me, even if it's the kind of band CoB is.

repcak 07-01-2006 12:15 PM

omg... i'm so stupid.

i said that the DXMG is about 465€, but its the price in germany... in austria its 521€ :upset: fcuk it!!
i think i need more money than i thought at first... shit

Yea that's always dissapointing... Have anything you can sell to get more money fast?

And I agree, the tone on Hatecrew Deathroll was very very good.

repcak 07-01-2006 12:45 PM

i have money... enough money to get two guitars, but i don't want to pay more than 500.

guitar 521€ + digitech RP-80 72€ ... 600€ ... maybe i can get them for 550€

Forlorn Hope 07-01-2006 12:49 PM

Where are you getting them? Local guitar shop or an online store like Musiciansfriend or something?
