now I want stars
|
That probably won't happen. We need to get back on topic, this isn't the "rep" thread.
What do you guys think of Yes? We haven't discussed them in a while. I think they're a great prog rock band, and the members are all very talented. Any thoughts? How bout favorite cds? |
Great band. Very talented and very creative. I have Fragile and The Yes Album and both of those are great.
|
They are quite good
|
Yes is great. I really love Close to the Edge and Fragile
|
Chris Squire is amazing and Steve Howe is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Listen to the solo for Starship Trooper - AMAZING
A guitar solo piece called The Clap (misleading title - great song) |
Yea Steve Howe is amazing. I love him style of playing. Close To The Edge and Fragile are the two I have now. I love Close To The Edge. Great cd.
|
i've heard neil young referred to as the Godfather of Grunge before..at first i didn't really understand it, but i suppoes it makes sense. what do you guys think?
yeh that's true - he was one of the first "real" grunge artists. He fused together folk, rock & elements of country/rockabilly. You can't really classify Young in a genre group, and that's what makes him so grungy. |
I think it's just because his electric playing is sloppy and distorted.
|

How bout favorite cds?
chris squire is what stands out to me about yes. some great bass songs are tempus fugit, soundchaser, and of course roundabout. my personal favorite overall song is heart of the sunrise (which also includes a blistering bass performance). yes, however, take a backseat to king crimson for my favorite prog group. king crimson anyone? |
I think it's just because his electric playing is sloppy and distorted.
very true. his vocals were kinda grungy too, i am never quite sure if he's singing in tune or not, although he usually sang much higher than the grunge bands of the ninetys. edit- and i know barely anything about Yes, except for a few songs. i'm gonna go check my record collection and see if i have any of their albums, maybe i just missed one. edit edit- no, no Yes records. although i did leave my amp on all night while at work...woopsies. :upset: |
I'll send you some songs if you want. I have Fragile and Close To The Edge on my computer.
|

if that's directed towards me...i can just download some songs, which ones would be good to get a good taste of what Yes is all about? What's their best album to buy? I don't have AIM and my MSN isn't working, so sending songs are difficult. I've heard the song thats like "I've seen all good people turn their heads.." and I enjoyed it. Actually, I just found out that was Yes like a month ago. |
If you think about it, Elvis was really the one that made black music accesible for white people. He's more of a theif than Jimmy Page.
Elvis is not a theif nor was he the first man to make White people like Black music. I believe the first Jazz album was created by a White band. As far as Rock n Roll goes, Whites did not steal it from Black people. Rock music is actually pretty equal between both races. Rock n Roll = White Melodies (Country) + Black Rhythm (Blues) Elvis combined those two elements. Also, if you trace music back far enough, you'd be amazed how much White Folk music influenced Blues. /recap |

Once again nobody mentions Rory Gallagher, who is easily as good as Hendrix, Clapton, Page etc. etc.

we've talked about Rory Gallagher before, unless you are talking about the whole discussion about stealing music. We've talked about his music and guitar playing , he's pretty good. I think a lot time ago the laws about "stealing" music weren't nearly as strict. That's why folk, jazz, and blues artists often did covers of songs, and recieved all the credit. It wasn't really until Rock music started, that the legal aspects of coprights and stuff came into play. That's why everyone came down so hard on Zeppelin, they were doing exactly what all the blues and folk guys were doing, except that they were a mainstream band so it was a huge uproar. if they did that twenty years earlier, no one would have cared or noticed. |
Bleh, most punk, hard rock, metal and rap steal stuff constantly without judgement.
|
And put it in a slightly different key, that's how they get away with it.
|
I don't own any Yes albums, but I'd like to own The Yes Album.
whoa, weird |
Ah, who cares? Just imagine all the people, living life in peace!
Why are you telling me that? I tryed to show how each races played a role in Rock music, while others tryed to say it was all Black people. |

This topic really has no redeeming value and people always end up getting angry, so let's talk about Yes.
|
I think Yes are pretty good but i havent heard much of their stuff, or not enough to buy one of there albums.
|
You should definitely check out The Yes Album and Fragile. Roundabout, Mood For A Day, Starship Trooper, and All Good People are some of my favorite songs.
|
DUDE. You guys are all missin out on Close To The Edge. It rules.
|
I've been meaning to check that out on the site, but I haven't been in the mood lately. All I've been listening to is Sailing the Seas of Cheese since the day I got it.
|

Let's talk about something else, because I hate Yes. |
What don't you like about them?
|
Let's talk about something else, because I hate Yes.
You hate some of the most prominents bands. |
Let's talk about something else, because I hate Yes.
I'm pretty sure nobody cares anymore. |
I love Canned Heat now. I found Boggie With Canned Heat in my dad's record collection and I love it.w00t.
|
Everyone who likes classic rock should check out supagroup and the mooney suzuki, two newer classic rock bands kicking ***.
|
dont you bring youre new rock in here. cant you read the thread title? canned heat is good but i cant seem to get into them. which is odd since i love blues-rock. has anyone heard of a band called frijid pink? they were an old detroit band and the only song i can find or have heard from them is a cover of house of the rising sun. it rocked. they kept the majority of the song the same but added in some killer guitar. check it out if you can find them.
|
it's classic rock, but its new. That too much for you? I don't care.
|
it's classic rock, but its new. That too much for you? I don't care.
How can something new be classic rock? It could sound like classic rock if that's whst you mean though. New classic rock=Classic Rock bands releasing new material |
it's classic rock, but its new. That too much for you? I don't care.
yes but if its new, its not classic. im just messing around man. and yeah its weird because i know canned heat is a great blues rock band, i just dont groove with them. i have live at topanga corral though. |
It's not classic rock if it's new. It's rock and roll is what it is.
|
yes but if its new, its not classic. im just messing around man.
