Also, has he ever actually recorded a real instrument. But it could be sweet, who's to say.

I'm gonna get me an Aguilar Filter Twin this week I think, if my cash flow meets predictions.
Yeah, I hear that. Lots to think about! Can't hurt to go and ask though. Got a long way before we're ready to record an EP anyways. Got 3 half songs at the moment :/

Hello

old school

FunkMetalBass 05-31-2011 08:38 AM
Just went on www.jcbasses.com just now.

Can't believe how good his basses are now. I remember when he made his first one.
I know. That one he built for Scott Horan looks amazing. I've considered commissioning another bass from him, or at least that 40" scale 8-string replacement neck.

gaslight 05-31-2011 09:14 AM

The 8 string on there takes 11 neck bolts, fucking manly.

At least you know in the event of nuclear holocaust, that neck isn't gonna be far from that body.

I know, because I own that 8-string :). It probably makes my neck way heavier than it needs to be, but Jens Ritter does the same thing, so there must be something to it.

Also, I was actually thinking of a coursed/octaved/paired 8-string. The neck would only be slightly larger at the nut than a typical P-bass.

i am in love with ramona flowers, no word of a lie. mary elizabeth winstead would do as a substitute, seeing as she's y'know... real.

Yeah, I'd probably hit that too. I still have yet to see Scott Pilgrim. I feel like a disgrace to the bass community or something.

fatbandit 06-01-2011 02:48 PM

It's worth seeing from a non-bass point of view really. Probably my favourite film from last year (and there were some good ones), and it's sitting in my all time list too at the moment. Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it is just a bonus!

fatbandit 06-01-2011 03:01 PM

Just got my Focusrite interface. Quite like how no-nonsense it is, and it was a dream to get working too. So far, so good. Need to get down to some serious sessions in Reaper to see if the drivers and preamps are truly any good though.

Came with some Focusrite VSTs as well, which is a bonus. Hopefully they're decent quality!

I'm gonna play snooty engineer and say 'Define decent?"

fatbandit 06-01-2011 06:23 PM

To me as a mere amateur, they're decent if they work equally as well as - or better than - the ones I already have :p Which is mostly what Reaper came with, and a few Stilwell comps etc. I don't really have set criteria though - if I turn something on and it pleases my ears, then I keep it. No biggy if I don't get on with them though, they were free :)

gaslight 06-01-2011 08:01 PM

Fucken snooty engineers :p.

FunkMetalBass 06-01-2011 09:25 PM

Hell yeah, I drafted up plans for some custom saddles for my 8-string bass and the guy over at Zoov Guitars is going to machine them for me. Now I can finally fix the issue of string spacing! I hope his prices are reasonable.

Man I'm so hopped up on caffeine at the moment I can't read/post right.

I read the first half, then was thinking about preamps, then read "hopefully they're decent" and put 2 and 2 together and got 3. Is it the Forte suite or something that it came with?

But yeah don't expect the preamps to blow you away. While focusrite make some good stuff in the higher end, they use their reputation to push the their chinese made stuff.

gaslight 06-01-2011 10:15 PM

Fucking Chinese man.

WW3 will involve them and they won't be on our side. China is a bad country.

On a brighter note I've finally got my home office (read: desk) set up and it's a nifty music station. I've got a bass amp on the floor and a guitar amp on the shelf.

Sufficiently pimp for my needs. All I need to get now is a printer and a chair.

And another bass cabinet and some pedals.

And some guitar pedals.

And a mini keyboard.

And other toys.

Ah, fuck it :upset:. It's never over.

Convectuoso 06-01-2011 11:00 PM

Hahaha I feel you.

Post pics!

fatbandit 06-02-2011 01:44 AM

Yeah man, it's only a home demo thing mostly, so I'm not worried that it isn't going to sound like a Neve or anything! :) Not sure what the suite is it came with tbh. It's a Gate, EQ, Compressor and a Reverb. I'll try them out later. Might get some side chain action going on and try ducking the bass with the kick drum on a couple of mixes. Never done that before, even though I'm always getting told it works.

gaslight 06-02-2011 04:24 AM

Not worth pics man, it's just a desk with a guitar amp on a shelf and some pens and a coaster.

FunkMetalBass 06-03-2011 12:12 PM

I kind of want to build myself a pair of these:

gaslight 06-03-2011 11:23 PM

Within one week of those being commercially available every single Asian will have a pair.

Lol. And within a month, two symphonies will be composed entirely of midi BeatSneaks.

gaslight 06-04-2011 01:08 AM

The horror.

FunkMetalBass 06-04-2011 01:23 AM

Lol. tr00f.

What's been up, gassy? Aside from a sweet new home recording setup, that is.

gaslight 06-04-2011 06:11 AM

I wouldn't say it's sweet, or a recording set-up yet :p. It's doing great for my laptop and cups of tea though.

Nah it should be good for recording, comfortable at least. Not sure how good it feels as a practise space but for learning songs it was alright.

Current news is that I just got inFamous for free off the PSN Welcome Back package and I'm having potato chips and chocolate for dinner tonight, unless I go out and buy some more food.

gaslight 06-05-2011 02:34 AM

Bloody hell, I think setting up a compressor takes more practise than playing bass does.

This is tr00f.

Spaceman Spiff 06-05-2011 11:50 AM

I just got the best distortion pedal the other day. TC Electronic Nova Drive. It's just amazing.
