Fuck it's great to have you back man. If there's one person on this site who should make it their first effort to listen to The Veils, it's you. Seriously. The Veils, man.

Did someone in alt/indie just say fugg!?

Bartender 11-10-2006 01:13 PM

Been listening mostly just to a playlist I made recently. It started off as just all my 5/5 albums, since then has morphed a little to include whatever I felt like listening to at the time. Right now it's the Rat Pack, coincidentally enough.

Bedouin Soundclash - Sounding a Mosaic was a bit disappointing at first, but the last few tracks (and what turned out to be the first track again, as the album started repeating itself) picked it up nicely. J Mascis and the Fog - Free So Free is overall pretty good, even if he does say "free" waay too much. "Say The Word" has an absolutely fantastic solo, though.

And, as ever, I'm looking forward to Jools Holland again. Apparently Jarvis Cocker has a solo album on the way?

I'm busting out Source Tags and Codes for the first time since high school or something because I listened to their newest last night, aka THE WORST ALBUM OF THE DECADE.

pixiesfanyo 11-10-2006 04:32 PM

Yeah, the new Trail of Dead is ridiculously bad.

YDload 11-10-2006 04:55 PM

what did they do to mess it up

is it like really over-the-top or derivative, cause those are the two directions they seemed to be headed

beso negro 11-10-2006 04:58 PM

I think I lost my copy of Source Tags and Codes. Unless it's hidden somewhere in my car.

Zebra 11-10-2006 05:05 PM

I never thought that Source Tags and Codes was very good, it's an average album at best.
I never thought that Source Tags and Codes was very good, it's an average album at best.
the only problem i have with it is that some of the songs sound too similar to each other (like the two "omg rawk" tracks Homage and Days of Being Wild). but if you listen to it obsessively (as I have) then they all stick out very well :):(

also, diggin Bear Vs. Shark- "Kylie" just an awesome song

Amen, brother.

PECOAE 11-10-2006 11:06 PM

I just saw Damian Rice on The Tonight Show and a song from 9 was played by him - Is 9 any good?

How is it compared to O?
what did they do to mess it up

They compressed and pussied the hell out of the vocals to the point where it sounds like a small, robotic girl is singing, for starters. Then they wrote a bunch of horrid piano pop and chamber pop songs. And then they covered Guided by Voices badly.
I never thought that Source Tags and Codes was very good, it's an average album at best.
I agree for the most part: it's pretty decent, but nothing amazing. I was just startled by how bad this one was in comparison to it.

br3ad_man 11-11-2006 02:34 AM

The first song seems ok.

Jacaranda 11-11-2006 03:04 AM

my shirt for trail of dead came today and I don't wanna hear the new album. I bet its worst then their first :S

been listening to alot of Labyrinth soundtrack. fantastic.

Phoenix - It's Never Been Like That

Little Man being Erased 11-11-2006 05:02 AM

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free
Lucero - Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers

That Lucero album is really good. It's sorta alt-country/southern rock/americana stuff. Perhaps a little on the cheesey side, but I don't care.

Kyle 11-11-2006 05:51 AM

So the new Jarvis Cocker album is quite nice, nothing special, but it's not a complete disaster either.

Leak? Or is it out already?

Kyle 11-11-2006 10:07 AM

I'm not sure if it's out or not, but I saw a review of it in the newspaper, and then downloaded it from Album base. I'm sure if it's not out already, it will be in the next couple of weeks.
