I think you get a period of a minute or so after making a post when it's still 'soft'; you can edit it without it coming up with "Last edited by.." at the bottom. Same with threads, I think, if you edit the title very soon after posting it, the actual title (not just the within-thread mini-title) changes.

Something like that. I've noticed that when I don't put a reason for editing and edit a small spelling error. Kinda cool, less people know you can't type..
